[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1342675] Re: Random characters in screen text suddenly disappear

2015-06-17 Thread Rod Hubbard
I have this problem on Ubuntu 15.04. I had it on previous versions of
Ubuntu as well. I did a clean install of 15.04 so the bug is still
present in 15.04 (not a remnant of the earlier versions). See attached
screenshot. I've seen the missing characters occur in Nautilus and in
the gray bar at the top of windows in Ubuntu (e.g., Firefox, gedit,
Libreoffice, file download window). On the bright side, it seems to
occur less frequently and less severely on 15.04 than in previous
versions.

** Attachment added: Download window with missing characters

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1454868] Re: Ubuntu 15.04 Freezes Totally

2015-06-17 Thread professordes
Various Thinkpads (X240, T430s,S440) exhibiting freezing behaviour -
nothing showing in logs. System mostly wakens up again after a minute or
two.

I have tried switching to Cinnamon desktop rather than Unity, no freezes
in that (yet).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1464365] Re: Resolution is incorrect; screen mostly occluded

2015-06-17 Thread Barry Warsaw
Through a process of disk snapshotting, apt-mark holding certain
packages, and bisecting the dist-upgrade, I've narrowed it down to one
of the following packages. I'm unable to narrow it down any further.
This is the output of `apt-get dist-upgrade --dry-run`

The following packages will be upgraded:
  xserver-common xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-video-ati
  xserver-xorg-video-intel xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
  xserver-xorg-video-radeon xserver-xorg-video-vmware xvfb
8 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

[amd64])
Conf xvfb (2:1.17.1-0ubuntu4 Ubuntu:15.10/wily [amd64])

The other bit of information I can give is that if I apt-mark unhold all
of these except xserver-xorg-video-vmware, when I reboot I get a low
graphics warning and get dumped into a text console. If I unhold them
all, I get the screen occlusion as described above.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1466159] [NEW] Emergency boot, after fglrx

2015-06-17 Thread Sherif
Public bug reported:

After installing fglrx then restarting, I was able to boot normally in the
beginning.
I'm not sure. After changing rendering backend to OpenGL 3, I boot to emergency
mode. To continue boot, I run: systemctl default. I returned it to OpenGL 2,
but I still see emergency mode every boot.
Restart or power off returns me to emergency boot terminal, but it hangs (I
can't write anything), so I press shutdown button to turn it off.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1466053] [NEW] System hangs completely when executing glxgears with DRI_PRIME=1

2015-06-17 Thread munbi
Public bug reported:

I'm using a Dell Latitude E6540 laptop with hybrid graphics (Intel HD + Radeon
HD8790M).
Using DRI_PRIME=1 to offload to the discrete GPU causes different problems,
from simple program crash
to complete system hang (i.e. no ctrl-alt-F1, no external ssh access, only
long-press power button shutdown possible).
When system does not hang (app crash) the error is always something concerning
'dri2_allocate_textures' in gallium.
For example:

$ DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears(hangs system)
Black window displayed, resizing it a bit makes 3D gears appear, resizing a
little more completely hangs system

$ DRI_PRIME=1 /media/data/opt/SweetHome3D-4.4/SweetHome3D
(application crash)
Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS: -javaagent:/usr/share/java/jayatanaag.jar

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1464388] Re: Cursor flickers disappears.

2015-06-17 Thread Steve
Hi,
Thanks for getting back and apologies for the delay in responding.
I downloaded and ran the ISO as a live image, but it made no difference.
The cursor still flickers and disappears, sometimes for several seconds.
It seems to happen when there is background activity and it make the system
unusable.
Let me know if you need anything else.

Regards
 Steve Millross
