For those looking for a fix without having to patch and recompile: revert your kernel to 3.19.0.25. The problem is caused by linux-image- generic version 3.19.0.26-25. Please downgrade to 3.19.0.25-26. (pay very careful attention to the last two sets of numbers) This may help: http://askubuntu.com/questions/138284/how-to-downgrade-a -package-via-apt-get Also note, this kernel seems to only available if you have the proposed repository selected. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319] Re: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves
Same problem on Debian 8. Simple solution, like in comment nr 115, but it is much better to use --scale-from instead of --scale. For example: xrandr --output LVDS1 --fb 1920x1200 --panning 1920x1200 --scale-from 1920x1200 To switch back, set your normal resolution, for example: xrandr --output LVDS1 --fb 1280x800 --panning 1280x800 --scale 1x1 If the size of scale--from a bit different from the size of --panning, it causes problems. So you should use --scale-from instead of --scale. I'm not sure if --fb is necessary, it works without it, but maybe using it is more secure. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/883319 Title: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/883319/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1480790] [NEW] Window manager reports incorrect coordinate positions (affecting e.g. WindowBuilder)
Public bug reported: WindowBuilder running in Ecilpse under Ubuntu 12.04, 13.04, 14.04, 15.04 with Unity or KDE has some display errors - maybe affected by this bug. Please have a look at this bug report: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=417224. In this bug report Eric, project leader of WindowBuilder, notes the following: This is caused by a bug in the Linux window manager you are using (it is reporting incorrect coordinate positions). It is not consistent across all window managers, distributions, or versions, so we know of no way to consistently work around the problem. The recommended workaround for this is to use a different Linux distribution, version, or window manager. As you noted in your report, you get different results with different Linux distros which further highlights the lack of compatibility across Linux distros and versions. The fact that it appears to be working in one of the distros you tried suggests that the problem was fixed for that version and not the others. It happens to work fine in the Linux distros we have installed. Thank you Dan Ștefan Stroe (stroestefan) and Somberlain (somberlain218) for cleaning up my patch and giving more instructions. However, since this is a patch to a dkms module, I believe the proper way is to add it to dkms patches directory and modify dkms.conf.in. This way the original, proprietary code is distributed unchanged, and the patch is applied when the dkms module is built on install. I am not a dpkg expert, though... You can use the attached patch thus: sudo apt-get build-dep fglrx-installer-updates apt-get source fglrx-installer-updates cd fglrx-installer-updates-15.200 patch -p1 ../fglrx_ignore_hotplug.diff dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -uc -us -b sudo dpkg -i ../fglrx-updates-core_15.200-0ubuntu0.3_amd64.deb This should generate a new fglrx-updates-core package in the parent directory. When installed, it will call dkms build, which will apply the patch and build the kernel module. You can check dkms with sudo dkms status and to rebuild (should have been done by the above install) sudo dkms remove fglrx-updates-core/15.200 -k 3.19.0-26-generic sudo dkms build fglrx-updates-core/15.200 -k 3.19.0-26-generic sudo dkms install fglrx-updates-core/15.200 -k 3.19.0-26-generic sudo update-initramfs -k 3.19.0-26-generic -u Disclaimer: This is patching kernel modules.
