[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1484380] Re: Xorg regular crash on wily

2015-09-08 Thread Timo Aaltonen
The crash is caused by the update of x11proto-core-dev to 7.0.28, and
xserver built against it. I'll revert the offending commit from the
proto and rebuild the server.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1338177] Re: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 23s! [Xorg:1295]

2015-09-08 Thread RichardNeill
Hi Christopher,

Is there actually any point doing this? I've had so many experiences where I
track down a bug in some detail, file it on Launchpad,, and then it takes a
year or more (as in this case) before any developer might actually pay
attention to the report - by which time the whole thing is obsolete, either
fixed elsewhere, or still present but in newer releases. I often get the
feeling that I am simply wasting my time filing bug reports, because, however
helpful and detailed they are or try to be, they very rarely get attention
beyond:
"confirmed/new" "affects multiple users"... [time passes without a
fix] "release unsupported" [still present]
So it seems more useful to report issues directly upstream.

Of course, I realise that developer time is valuable, which is why I'm
happy to invest 5+ hours into bug reporting and further diagnosis. But
it is just too unrewarding to keep investing time to no effect. Is it
unreasonable to expect that if a bug is reported, it should either be
closed/invalid, or fixed/deployed within a couple of months, ideally
less?

Richard

am a noob so not sure how to set the card up??? Why wasn't it
detected???

It's not clear to me what you are waiting for, Felipe. As regards
Brazilian Portuguese, the current behaviour is described in e.g. comment

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493584] Re: package fglrx-updates-core (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: cannot copy extracted data for './usr/src/fglrx-updates-core-15.200/libfglrx_ip.a' to '/usr/src/

2015-09-08 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test.  Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493596] [NEW] Glamor chooses texture format that don't work on Nexus 4

2015-09-08 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

When Glamor generates textures it does so with format=GL_RGBA and
type=GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE using glTexImage2D. However when it writes to
these images it does it with format=GL_BGRA and type =
GL_UNSIGNED_INT_8_8_8_8_REV using glTexSubImage2D.

This works fine on a desktop (Intel) but when running on a Nexus 4 a
GL_INVALID_OPERATION is generated when calling glTexSubImage2D.

There seems to be a couple of problems:
- The format is originally GL_RGBA and then changed to GL_BGRA. glTexSubImage2D
says "GL_INVALID_OPERATION is generated if the texture array has not been
defined by a previous glTexImage2D or glCopyTexImage2D operation whose
internalformat matches the format of glTexSubImage2D."
- type GL_UNSIGNED_INT_8_8_8_8_REV is an extension and doesn't seem to be
supported on the Nexus 4.

By changing the original format to GL_RGBA (in glamor/glamor_utils.h)
and the glTexSubImage2D to use format=GL_RGBA type=GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE
(glamor/glamor_transfer.c) we can get this to work.

The question is - is the current Glamor code to aggressive in using
extensions or should it be able to better detect which method is
appropriate for each driver? Are there other issues with the X format
the pixmap data is in?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1491192] Re: Mouse Flickering When 3rd USB Monitor is Enabled - 15.04 Unity

2015-09-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
AE Grey, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As
per http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en=Q400A an update
to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (209). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493625] [NEW] Fails to generate texture when running zenity on Nexus 4

2015-09-08 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

Test case:
1. Run XMir on a Nexus 4:
$ Xmir :0 --desktop_file_hint=dialer-app
2. Run zenity
2. DISPLAY=:0 zenity --info

XMir hits an assertion:
Xmir: glamor_fbo.c:189: glamor_pixmap_ensure_fb: Assertion `fbo->tex != 0'
failed.

Digging into the code, the failure is occurring in _glamor_create_tex
(glamor/glamor_fbo.c). The glGenTextures is returning a 0 for the
texture and not setting an error code in glGetError.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493625] Re: Nexus 4 fails to generate texture when running zenity

2015-09-08 Thread Robert Ancell
The possibilities I've been investigating are:
- We're not setting the GLES context correctly
- There is an issue in the driver that is due to the way we are prompting it
- There is some sort of out of memory issue (doesn't seem to be the case as
there aren't a huge amount of textures in use)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493638] [NEW] Simple GTK+ application with single label crashes XMir

2015-09-08 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

The following program (compile with gcc -g -Wall test-gtk.c -o test-gtk
`pkg-config --cflags --libs gtk+-3.0`):

#include

int main (int argc, char **argv)
{
gtk_init (, );

GtkWidget *w = gtk_window_new (GTK_WINDOW_TOPLEVEL);
gtk_widget_show (w);

GtkWidget *l = gtk_label_new ("M");
gtk_widget_show (l);
gtk_container_add (GTK_CONTAINER (w), l);

gtk_main ();

return 0;
}

Causes XMir to crash. Removing the label causes it to run fine.

backtrace of the crash

Hello there,

I hope you can help me.

I have the same crash backtrace again and again but from different
reasons. Sometimes its emacs, than its libreoffice, but it can also be
chromium browser or firefox. Mostly - I'm not sure its when i resize
the windows - but that is just a guess, because it does not happen
systematically from my point of view. (its the same with awesome
windowmanager or enlightenment)

It just coredumps

I will add the core dump and also the X log file and the .xsession-error
(which differs a bit)

But I think emacs core dumps just because of the xorg coredump which

I can more or less reproduce it by resizing the frames in 'git gui' but
it also occurs in LibreOffice and Emacs.

I'm running on an Intel i5-2500k and use a Radeon R9 290 graphics card
with xf86-video-radeon.

I added my own log file and backtraces.

Which window manager(s) does it happen with for you?

Do you guys use any special window manager configuration, e.g. non-
opaque window resizes?

That worked for 20 emails, but now it crashed with the same Xorg
backtrace.

I use awesome windowmanager, and will add my rc.lua for you. I don't
think there are special configurations.

Here is my xorg config:

--  begin .xinitrc --
#!/bin/bash

if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ] ; then
for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/?* ; do
[ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
done
unset f
fi

[[ -f ~/.Xresources ]] && xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources

exec awesome

I can confirm that the mesa-lts-vivid Timo uploaded to his PPA
(10.5.9-2ubuntu1~trusty3~ppa1) includes the corresponding vivid's
libosmesa(-dev) packages. I can now install the dependencies needed to
build f. e. vtk without any problems (see answer #3). Great to see that
this annoying bug is solved!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1454473] Re: In Ubuntu 15.04, simply moving the mouse via touchpad scrolls the window

2015-09-08 Thread Stephen Jones
Exactly the same experience as Franck971 - touchpad/mouse does not
function

Hi. Same problem 100% time with fresh Ubuntu 15.04 EFI on Acer Aspire E15 E51
Very annoying with Nautilus (almost unusable)
Synaptics touchpad is very unstable with this laptop (also not detected at boot
50% time)
I'm planing to move from 15.04 due to these issues
