[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1501346] Re: Gimp fails to start w/ Xmir running in '-rootless -flatten' mode under Unity 8
OK, it appears to be purely a Unity8/QtMir bug. Unity8 does not allow gaps (splash screens) in the lifecycle of a connection's surface: Connect Create splash window Destroy splash window Create app window (still using the original connection) This succeeds from the client's perspective (Xmir) but Unity8/QtMir fails to display the second window (which is the main app window). Using other simpler apps I can reproduce the same bug. There's a strange delay in Unity8 -- If you can pause for 5-10 seconds between creating the first and second window then Unity8 does work. Workaround: gimp --no-splash ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Also affects: qtmir (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: qtmir (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Also affects: qtmir Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: qtmir Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1501346 Title: Gimp fails to start w/ Xmir running in '-rootless -flatten' mode under Unity 8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/qtmir/+bug/1501346/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Confirmed (on wily too). Flatten mode is broken, but more weird is that this bug only occurs in Unity8 (not in the Mir demo servers)... tctwyan, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1501041] Re: No visible display in ubuntu session when using nvidia drivers via nvidia-prime until screen goes to sleep, then waked up
What happens in an ubuntu session is - After logging in, no display. If the session is left inactive until display is put to sleep, then awakining it thru keyboard or mouse brings back a visible display. (default is 5 min. of inactivity A simple startup script via startup applications demonstrates - script in ~/bin #!/bin/bash xset dpms force off xset dpms force on ~/.config/autostart/unblank.desktop [Desktop Entry] Type=Application Exec=unblank1 Hidden=false NoDisplay=false X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=true Name=unblank X-GNOME-Autostart-Delay=3 So with above in place after the blind login > 3 secs > visible display is returned It's been suggested that xorg.conf needs some serverflags, ie. Section "ServerFlags" Option "BlankTime" "0" Option "OffTime" "0" EndSection Though not effective here as a standalone section & if there is an xorg.conf solution then it needs to be patched into ubuntu-drivers- common ** Also affects: ubuntu-drivers-common (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Please note that this bug is being filed on a recent 15.10 Ubuntu image install but from a gnome session In a nutshell - Once nividia drivers are installed & used from nvidia-prime there is no longer a visible display in unity-greeter nor in an ubuntu session once logged in. (a blind log in successfully loads an ubuntu session. Everything in the ubuntu session works fine, there are no errors & all the related logs look ok, there is just no visible display. I can open apps, run commands, copy/create logs, play music, play videos, just no display so has to be done blindly from keyboard. On the other hand if I install gnome-shell & log in (blindly) to a gnome session from greeter then all is well & I get a visible display. The same behaviour is seen on an Xubuntu image install, once nvidia is installed & switched to, no visible display. Again there installing & logging into a gnome session works fine with visible display nvidia driver version doesn't matter, exact same is seen with current 15.10 versions & the one I'm currently using (355) from drivers ppa. ** this appears to be that the display is blanked/asleep at greeter & login. Forcing or waiting for screen to blank/sleep then waking up restores display - See comment 8 for further info + See comment 8 for further info ** ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10 Package: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.17.2-1ubuntu7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.2.0-11.13-generic 4.2.1 Uname: Linux 4.2.0-11-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.19-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Tue Sep 29 16:15:21 2015 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: wily DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bbswitch, 0.7, 4.2.0-11-generic, x86_64: installed nvidia-355, 355.11, 4.2.0-11-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0416] (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:3801] NVIDIA Corporation GK107M [GeForce GT 755M] [10de:0fcd] (rev ff) (prog-if ff) InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-09-28 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 15.10 "Wily Werewolf" - Alpha amd64 (20150928) MachineType: LENOVO 20217 ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.2.0-11-generic.efi.signed root=UUID=3712249e-a4c8-4b29-9ffb-f9f9e7d5259a ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg-server UdevLog: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/log/udev' UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 09/18/2013 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 74CN44WW(V3.05) dmi.board.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.board.name: VIQY0Y1 dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: 31900058STD dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr74CN44WW(V3.05):bd09/18/2013:svnLENOVO:pn20217:pvrLenovoIdeaPadY510P:rvnLENOVO:rnVIQY0Y1:rvr31900058STD:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrLenovoIdeaPadY510P: dmi.product.name: 20217 dmi.product.version: Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.12.2+15.10.20150908-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.64-1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 11.0.0-1ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 11.0.0-1ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.17.2-1ubuntu7 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.9.2-1ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.5.0+g

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1451798] Re: black screen (but with cursor) after rotating by 180 degrees
I'm working on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-C1 that also has this issue, though I can only rotate the display manually on this model (not sure by other thinkpad comments if it is implying an automatic screen rotation, perhaps by gyroscope, so I wanted to be sure to make the distinction just in case). Rotating it to normal, clockwise, counterclockwise gives no issue, 180 flip causes same black screen problem. Ctrl+Alt+F1 followed by Ctrl+Alt+F7 does fix this for me, though I'll note that switching back to Normal rotation after being on 180 rotation will cause the same black screen problem again, warranting another Ctrl+Alt+... etc. to return it to normal. Using Ubuntu 14.04 on a 64-bit system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to x11-xserver-utils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1451798 Title: black screen (but with cursor) after rotating by 180 degrees To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/x11-xserver-utils/+bug/1451798/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1072531] [NEW] [regression] X11 screen blanking after 10 minutes with no UI to change it
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After updating from Ubuntu 12.04 Precise to Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal, X11 has started automatically blanking the screen after 10 minutes of inactivity even though I have set "Turn off screen when inactive" in "Brightness and Lock" to 1 hour. If I change "Turn off screen when inactive" to 1 minute, then the screen turns off after 1 minute as it should, but if I set it back to 1 hour then the screen goes back to blanking after 10 minutes, not turning off after 1 hour as it should. So it seems that there are two independent timers and the GUI has no effect on the 10 minute one. Looking in xset, there is indeed a 10-minute screen blanking timeout. $ xset q Keyboard Control: auto repeat: onkey click percent: 0LED mask: 2000 XKB indicators: 00: Caps Lock: off01: Num Lock:off02: Scroll Lock: off 03: Compose: off04: Kana:off05: Sleep: off 06: Suspend: off07: Mute:off08: Misc:off 09: Mail:off10: Charging:off11: Shift Lock: off 12: Group 2: off13: Mouse Keys: on auto repeat delay: 500repeat rate: 33 auto repeating keys: 00ffdbbf fadfffefffed 9fff fff7 bell percent: 50bell pitch: 400bell duration: 100 Pointer Control: acceleration: 2/1threshold: 4 Screen Saver: prefer blanking: yesallow exposures: yes timeout: 600cycle: 600 Colors: default colormap: 0x20BlackPixel: 0x0WhitePixel: 0xff Font Path: /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi,/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi,/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType,built-ins DPMS (Energy Star): Standby: 0Suspend: 0Off: 0 DPMS is Enabled Monitor is On $ Note that I am using a dual head configuration so I have an xorg0.conf and an xorg1.conf, but there is nothing in either related to screen blanking. Both heads experience the same problem. My other machine that I upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 does not. Running "xset s 0 0" avoids the problem. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1501658] [NEW] Missing fonts and flickering font rendering
Public bug reported: When starting from the live iso the fonts flicker and some are missing. When mousing over them they return but then they disappear as soon as you remove the mouse from the top of them. After installing xorg-edgers/ppa and applying the newest nvidia drivers with intel microcode the font issue disappears. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1501658 Title: Missing fonts and flickering font rendering To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1501658/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493721] Re: [regression] Xmir -sw (software) mode crashes the Mir server
Apparently the GBM bypass logic was quite safe for a couple of years. The offending regression only happened fairly recently in: revno: 2337 [merge] author: Kevin DuBois committer: Tarmac branch nick: development-branch timestamp: Mon 2015-02-23 14:50:14 + message: graphics: move the post() command from the DisplayBuffers to the new DisplayGr oup interface. This allows platforms to designate which DisplayBuffers must be p osted in a common function. Approved by PS Jenkins bot, Alberto Aguirre, Andreas Pokorny, Alan Griffiths, Alexandros Frantzis. ** Summary changed: - [regression] Xmir -sw (software) mode crashes the Mir server + [regression] Fullscreen software surfaces (like Xmir -sw) can crash the Mir server -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1493721 Title: [regression] Fullscreen software surfaces (like Xmir -sw) can crash the Mir server To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mir/+bug/1493721/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1448939] Re: tint2 taskbar boots irregularly with xserver-xorg-video-ati, boots fine with proprietary driver
I'll try it out tomorrow, but I am not completely sure I will be able to pull it off. :-) I'll let you know. I am very glad to hear that you are actively developing tint2, it is an awesome complement to the normal Ubuntu desktop, so I will do my best to help. Would be very nice if the new tint2 versions would become available in a package too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1448939 Title: tint2 taskbar boots irregularly with xserver-xorg-video-ati, boots fine with proprietary driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1448939/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
