[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1498738] Re: Xmir -rootless: Menus/dialogs sometimes appear in the wrong place

2015-10-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Summary changed:

- Xmir -rootless: Menus sometimes appear in the wrong place
+ Xmir -rootless: Menus/dialogs sometimes appear in the wrong place

** Description changed:

- Xmir: Menus sometimes appear in the wrong place when using -rootless
+ Xmir: Menus/dialogs sometimes appear in the wrong place when using
+ -rootless

  In the past fortnight I've got menu placement working for the first
  time. However if you use an app for a little while its sub-surface
  placement (including menus) will sometimes get confused. And menus start
  to appear more around the middle of the app window.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1502794] [NEW] Xmir build requires mir-client-platform-mesa-dev even on Android

2015-10-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

Xmir build requires mir-client-platform-mesa-dev even on Android

This appears to be in order to build:

hw/xmir/xmir-dri2.c:#include
hw/xmir/xmir-dri2.c:mir_wait_for(mir_connection_platform_operation(
hw/xmir/xmir-dri2.c:
(mir_platform_operation_callback)_dri2_auth_magic_reply,

However we don't use any of that on Android right now. So it could be
made optional.

This seems to be a Unity8-specific bug. Sadly I can tell that because
the Mir demo servers are more broken in this respect: bug 1349660.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1502805] [NEW] Touch doesn't work on right hand side after rotating to landscape

2015-10-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

Touch doesn't work on right hand side after rotating to landscape.

Running Xmir on Unity8 (mako):
   ./Xmir :0 -rootless -flatten --desktop_file_hint=unity8

I can play Gnome Solitaire:
   /usr/games/sol

And it rotates/resizes correctly too. When you tilt the phone the game
is resized correctly to landscape. However touches on the right side of
the screen (beyond the old portrait width) don't work correctly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1442378] Re: latest radeon open driver on lubuntu 14.04 displays white flickering scan lines and occasional parts of the windows on external monitor

2015-10-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

  On a Compaq Presario 2500 laptop with an Ati IGP 345M graphics card,
  when connected to an external monitor ( SAMSUNG P2470HD - FullHD
  monitor/tv ) through a VGA analog connection, and using the latest open
  radeon driver on Lubuntu 14.04.2 with all the latest updates, when using
  the native resolution ( 1920x1080@60 ) of the monitor, and even at lower
  ones, except the lowest, there are small white lines flickering all over
  the display especially when there is movement in the windows or menus,
  and sometimes even small fragments of the window contents appear
  momentarily across different parts of the monitor. This does not happen
  when using a Windows XP installation on the same laptop with the same
  monitor and with the same D-Sub cable.

- I've tried to install the fglrx driver, but there seems to be none available
for this card either on the AMD website nor on the additional drivers
repository of lubuntu. Installing the fglrx driver, the card was never
recognised. The command "sudo amdconfig --initial" returns the error message:
"amdconfig: No supported adapters detected".

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1442378] Re: latest radeon open driver on lubuntu 14.04 displays white flickering scan lines and occasional parts of the windows on external monitor

2015-10-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Guilhermino, as per
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=228=en=us=en_lang==385154#N2663
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available
(F.25). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status
Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1500411] Re: Xorg freeze

2015-10-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Karl Johnson:
>"I did the BIOS update you recommended. I just had a black square on a drop
>down but my window manager is still working properly."

Feel free to stress test it a bit more to confirm no more xorg freezes.

>"By the way for us novices the documentation regarding BIOS updates is
a lot of words that do not lend much clarity..."

Seemed pretty clear to me when I read it. Quoting:
"Asus provides within their BIOS a utility called Easy Flash. Please search the
Asus website for instructions."

However, if your point is that it is not click-for-click instructions,
this is how when it was a direct URL to the instructions on Asus's
website, they decided to change the URL so it was replaced with the
above to be robust to random URL changes.

Despite this, the Ubuntu help wiki is publicly editable. If you want
more detail on it, feel free to add it as you encountered each screen as
I don't have an Asus to confirm.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1501941] Re: Screen turned off after X server exits

2015-10-05 Thread Robert Ancell
I've uploaded this change to wily. There is a possibility that there
might be a regression for some users with DPMS but I think that is less
severe than the effect on those who are left with the screen off. We'll
look at doing an update if upstream provides a fix.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314804] Re: resume from suspend never re-switch on video

2015-10-05 Thread efa
if you needed two separate reports, you had to ask for it immediately after the
opening of the report, not now.
If you prefer, you can continue ignoring bug report for 1 year and a half, than
change the subject of report and close them as invalid. The OS remain buggy.
I will not open a new and duplicate bug of this (where you changed the meaning)
about hibernate and resume.

Reported as blocking for bug#1

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1406725] Re: Severe graphical corruption running software clients (including Xmir) on android

2015-10-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK, I think this might be the problem. The client API is releasing its
shared pointer the the software buffer region prematurely (before
mir_buffer_stream_get_graphics_region even returns). This means we are
calling Android's gralloc->unlock() way before the client has even
started filling the buffer!

void mir_buffer_stream_get_graphics_region(
MirBufferStream *buffer_stream,
MirGraphicsRegion *region_out)
try
{
mcl::ClientBufferStream *bs =
reinterpret_cast(buffer_stream);

auto secured_region = bs->secure_for_cpu_write();
region_out->width = secured_region->width.as_uint32_t();
region_out->height = secured_region->height.as_uint32_t();
region_out->stride = secured_region->stride.as_uint32_t();
region_out->pixel_format = secured_region->format;
region_out->vaddr = secured_region->vaddr.get();
}
catch (std::exception const& ex)
{
MIR_LOG_UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION(ex);
}

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1470862] Re: When using fglrx module, the virtual consoles are blank and useless

2015-10-05 Thread cogset
This is also happening in Ubuntu Trusty 14.04.3 LTS : right after
installing fglrx-updates and fglrx-amdcccle-updates the virtual consoles
become unusable, i.e. totally blank.

Again, as bad as the AMD support for Linux may be, as a matter of fact
the proprietary driver is (unfortunately) still better then its open
source counterpart: display quality is noticeably better, screen
adjustments are way easier and more fine tunable than messing around
with xrandr, composite window managers don't work properly or don't
work at all with the open source driver.

Much as I would like to do without the proprietary AMD driver, I need to
use it to have my hardware working as I want, so please fix this issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1307786] Re: Macbook Pro 3, 1 NVIDIA Corporation G84M [GeForce 8600M GT] resume from suspend fails

2015-10-05 Thread Israel Dahl
I upgraded fully to Vivid, however the resolution with the nouveau driver was
really bad.
I will have to test this, but that computer's LCD is failing so it will take me
a bit of time to test it

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1442378] Re: latest radeon open driver on lubuntu 14.04 displays white flickering scan lines and occasional parts of the windows on external monitor

2015-10-05 Thread Guilhermino
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected trusty ubuntu

- I've tried to install the fglrx driver, but there seems to be none
- available for this card either on the AMD website nor on the additional
- drivers repository of lubuntu. Installing the fglrx driver, the card was
- never recognised. The command "sudo amdconfig --initial" returns the
- error message: "amdconfig: No supported adapters detected".

Guilhermino, could you please run the following command from a terminal
as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to
this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1442378

Please ensure you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you
click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

Title:
  latest radeon open driver on lubuntu 14.04 displays white flickering
  scan lines and occasional parts of the windows on external monitor

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  On a Compaq Presario 2500 laptop with an Ati IGP 345M graphics card,
  when connected to an external monitor ( SAMSUNG P2470HD - FullHD
  monitor/tv ) through a VGA analog connection, and using the latest
  open radeon driver on Lubuntu 14.04.2 with all the latest updates,
  when using the native resolution ( 1920x1080@60 ) of the monitor, and
  even at lower ones, except the lowest, there are small white lines
  flickering all over the display especially when there is movement in
  the windows or menus, and sometimes even small fragments of the window
  contents appear momentarily across different parts of the monitor.
  This does not happen when using a Windows XP installation on the same
  laptop with the same monitor and with the same D-Sub cable.

  I've tried to install the fglrx driver, but there seems to be none
  available for this card either on the AMD website nor on the
  additional drivers repository of lubuntu. Installing the fglrx driver,
  the card was never recognised. The command "sudo amdconfig --initial"
  returns the error message: "amdconfig: No supported adapters
  detected".

  I've tried to install the fglrx driver, but there seems to be none available
for this card either on the AMD website nor on the additional drivers
repository of lubuntu. Installing the fglrx driver, the card was never
recognised. The command "sudo amdconfig --initial" returns the error message:
"amdconfig: No supported adapters detected".

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1500411] Re: Xorg freeze

2015-10-05 Thread Karl Johnson
Thanks for this advice.
A little early to tell as I never could generate the error.
But I did have a common symptom that being a drop down list in a browser
would yield a black square instead of the list then my window manger
would not react to mouse clicks or keyboard input.

I did the BIOS update you recommended.

I just had a black square on a drop down but my window manager is still
working properly.

By the way for us novices the documentation regarding BIOS updates is a
lot of words that do not lend much clarity to what you are suppose to
do. I suppose somewhere in the Asus manual it says something like the
recipe below but I never found it.

You might add a recipe like this:
  0. Read documentation then -
  1. Down load the latest BIOS version.
  2. Unzip the download.
  3. Copy the BIOS file to a usb Flashdrive.
  4. Shutdown your computer.
  5. Power up your computer.
  6. Press F2 when the Asus logo appears.
  7. Select Advanced in the Asus BIOS screen.
  8. Select EasyFlash
  9. Select your USB Flashdrive
 10. Press the Yes buttons to update BIOS
