[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1501617] Re: X crashes on my intel card

2015-10-09 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Roman Shipovskij, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and
helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because as per
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1501617/comments/14
the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu -
Wily Werewolf.

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in
previous versions of Ubuntu, please perform as much as possible of the
SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.

It did lock up, but this time the power button was able to get kubuntu

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1504220] Re: Black screen after "prime-select nvidia" and restart of lightdm/reboot

2015-10-09 Thread Rene Greuel
Hello Christopher,

I updated to the bios version 2.61:

root@grueneerle:~# dmidecode -s bios-version && dmidecode -s bios-release-date
GAETA1WW (2.61 )
09/14/2015

The fix in version 2.61 was simply a security update:
Version 2.61
UEFI: 2.61 / ECP: 2.61
[Important] Fixed security vulnerability (LEN-2015-002 and other fixes). (Note)
If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 2.61 or higher, it is no longer
able to roll back to the version before 2.61 for security improvement.
-
http://support.lenovo.com/de/de/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-edge-laptops/thinkpad-edge-s430/downloads/DS029727

This problem still remains, so I will mark this as confirmed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1504220] Re: Black screen after "prime-select nvidia" and restart of lightdm/reboot

2015-10-09 Thread Rene Greuel
** Description changed:

- I'm using a Lenovo laptop with an intel/nvidia Optimus compatible graphics
solution. While being able to use prime-select to switch between those cards
with Ubuntu 14.X and official nvidia driversit stopped working when switching
to ubuntu 15.04 and newer drivers. I'm not sure when the problem first arises,
but I'm stucking with it for almost 5 month.
- In the meanwhile I stumbled upon errors in xorg.log pointing to insufficient
permissions related to DRM and intel driver. I switched to a newer kernel 4.1.x
and the xorg.log error had gone, but the general problem remains. A month ago I
switched to a wily daily build to test if the bug still exists there. I did a
fresh install but the problem is still the same.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1503554] Re: System freezes when playing videos or games.

2015-10-09 Thread dvdmchl
This morning I switched to nouveau driver. So far my system works well
without freezing.

So there are maybe some compatibility issues with binary nvidia driver.

I've both taken a picture and shot a small video that I think shows it better.
In the photo the window is blurry because I was moving it with the mouse ( when
the problem mainly manifests ), but you can see the scan lines by the side even
if not so many as what I actually see due to exposure time.
The video is 17MB but I can reduce it if needed. I've also now noticed that a
solid background color shows a vertical moving fluctuation not too contrasted,
as in a noisy signal connection.
