[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1498738] Re: Xmir -rootless: Menus/dialogs sometimes appear in the wrong place
At least in the case of -rootless -flatten, part of the problem appears to be double-reparenting. Apps like GIMP seem to keep their menu windows around even when they're not visible, presumably to help with menu scrolling performance. However Xmir has to re-realize and hence tries to re-reparent the menu windows each time. And it appears on the second and subsequent opening, a menu's relative position shifts in an unwanted way. Without figuring out the root cause we could just avoid redundant reparenting, however that seems to create a worse problem whereby the menu goes invisible. Because we seem to need the extra reparenting to kick the XComposite logic into action. So more investigation required... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1498738 Title: Xmir -rootless: Menus/dialogs sometimes appear in the wrong place To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1498738/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1503554] Re: System freezes when playing videos or games.
dvdmchl, given that you reported this problem while using the nvidia proprietary drivers, let this report be scoped to that, as nouveau drivers are treated as separately. Hence, as per your logs, you were using the 304.x nvidia driver when you first reported. As per nvidia.com, the latest available is 340.93, which is available in Wily as per https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia- graphics-drivers-340 . Hence, would testing a newer version of the driver change anything? ** Tags added: wily ** Description changed: - It has to do something with GPU as it happens only when using app that - uses OpenGL. + With Nvidia binary drivers it freezes very often, with nouveau driver it + freezes not very often. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1503554] Re: 10de:05e1 System freezes when playing videos or games.
It did freeze on both 304 and 340 drivers. I was able to reproduce it by simple playing youtube video (HTML5 player ). It did then freeze in between 10-30min. I have uninstalled Chromium a started to use Firefox instead. So far it is more stable and did not freeze after about 2h of playing videos. So now I am near to blame Chromium browser with proprietary Nvidia driver installed that it causes freezing my system. It needs more testing though. And maybe if other people with the same problem can try to switch browsers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1503554 Title: 10de:05e1 System freezes when playing videos or games. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1503551] Re: Java segfaulted in i965 driver - lots of deleted mmapped files
Very much my issue, as I am developing a libgdx project right now. I have a reduced (though not minimal) test case here: https://github.com/eaglgenes101/PatternLife Open it with Eclipse by importing an existing project, then run it with the block laying switch engine and the Conway Life ruleset (which is currently the default as of commit ffb078). It blanks out around generation 2300, and kicks the bucket around generation 2500. Frustrating for me, since I want to optimize further, but I can't while the consistent crashing hampers my ability to benchmark large patterns. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1503551 Title: Java segfaulted in i965 driver - lots of deleted mmapped files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1503551/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1499556] Re: Computer Reboots Instead of Halting
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I recently installed a new motherboard ( http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/QC5000-ITXPH/ ) with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and now when I try to shutdown my system reboots instead. I have tried a variety of shutdown methods including: sudo init 0 sudo shutdown -P now sudo shutdown now sudo shutdown -h now sudo shutdown -H now sudo shutdown -HP now (all previous variants with "now" replaced with "1") shutting down via the KDE menu (clicking the menu, clicking 'leave' section, clicking shutdown in the dialog box). All of these cause the system to reboot, when I expect that the system should shutdown. The system can shutdown only if I hold the power button for 5 seconds (hard shutdown). I have dug around in the bios, nothing in there seems to help. I even tried changing random features (things related to wake on lan, etc) after reading that some specific IRQs may be causing the problem. Here is the output of lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS Release:14.04 Codename: trusty and uname -a Linux livingroom 3.16.0-49-generic #65~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 9 10:03:23 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I have also attached a zip of my entire /var/log directory so you don't have to ask for my logs one at a time. Keep in mind that this bug happens everytime I try to shutdown, which I do more than once a day on average. I frequently shutdown and then hold the power button when the reset occurs, thereby causing a hard reset before the kernel has loaded when it is safest. This is an annoying workaround. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1499556] Re: Computer Reboots Instead of Halting
Chris, Sorry I didn't answer sooner. For some reason I didn't get an email when you commented on this thread (probably went to spam or something). Anyway, I ran the suggested command and it barfed the above ~20 comments :). Hopefully that helps! Also, I noticed a quirk about this bug. If I have done a recent package update/upgrade (via cli or the muon update manager) I will sometimes get a normal shutdown (not a reboot) afterwords. It seems to be if there is an updated kernel, but I can't see that with 100% confidence yet. I haven't been watching the updates / reboot problem closely enough. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1499556 Title: Computer Reboots Instead of Halting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1499556/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
