[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with kernel 4.2
I am using xubuntu, and it requires 3 clicks from the release announcement to find any reference to this issue. You have to go to: http://xubuntu.org/news/xubuntu-15-10-release/ then click to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WilyWerewolf/FinalRelease/Xubuntu and then click to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WilyWerewolf/ReleaseNotes#Known_issues At least now I know to go back to open source drivers fully before upgrading in the future. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509917] [NEW] FGLRX package cant be installed and run correctly on 15.10 UPGRADE
Public bug reported: Hi there! I cant get my graphics to work properly.. I have an AMD radeon HD 6450 card, I changed the display drivers via system settings -> programs & updates -> additional drivers to fglrx there (switching from the default xserver-xorg-video-ati), that worked. But when I did upgrade the distribution from 15.04 to 15.10, it just "hanged" when loading ubuntu.. it never got into xserver.. managed to get around that by connectin an old monitor via vga to my mobo directly, then it worked somehow by displaying the picture on my main screen via hdmi via amd hd 6450.. Have tried to install fglrx back and forth trying to get it to work, but it does not seem to work.. I did get this message when filing the bug: "Your system is providing 3D via software rendering rather than hardware rendering. This is a compatibility mode which should display 3D graphics properly but the performance may be very poor. If the problem you're reporting is related to graphics performance, your real question may be why X didn't use hardware acceleration for your system." What is even more disturbing is that I cant switch back to xserver-xorg-video-ati eighter and run that driver via the "additional drivers" settings dialogue. Dont know if I should file that into a separate bug but thought it maybe helps reporting that. Dont know how to get fglrx to work actually.. also the screen is reporting just a single resolution that is very low that I also even cant change.. Thanks for reading. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1507446] Re: monitor goes into power save after boot
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu ** Description changed: This is happening a few seconds after X starts - i can see the mouse pointer for a second then display goes to sleep. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509622] Re: Xorg crash
Paul Gear, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and- netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x230 an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.65). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509585] Re: system hang
Yuan Song, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is manually attached. First, please update your buggy and outdated BIOS to the latest available from the vendor (2.22): http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x61 If this is still reproducible, then please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. Execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade && sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open a terminal, navigate to your /var/crash directory and file your report with: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. By default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker . However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one would need to open the following file via a terminal: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and file the crash report via: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash If you do open this report, please feel free to subscribe me to it. However, I'm closing this report since the process outlined above will deal with this issue more efficiently. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your understanding. foobar, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. To advise, this report is only scoped to how the discrete radeon graphics won't stay off. Regarding display glitches, that is already scoped in another one of your reports > https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1467274 Regarding overheat, as you noted in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1467274/comments/7 it also overheated in Windows, so this is not a software bug at all, but a hardware design flaw. Public bug reported: I have noted this problem was first reported in '2009 ( Google search). The problem is definitely NOT a hardware problem, people with various hardware configurations encounter this bug. It does not just affect Ubuntu, it also affects Debian, Linux Mint, Puppy, along with some Redhat distros Fedora, and ArchLinux. I personally noticed the problem when I upgraded from ubuntu10.10 to 11.04. All versions prior to 11.04 worked great out of the box. When I could not find a fix for the bug in Ubuntu, I deleted Ubuntu, then installed Debian 6 (Squeez), which worked right out of the box. When I upgraded to Debian 6 (Wheezy), the bug resurfaced. I deleted Debian 6, and tried Puppy Linux with the SAME result, deleted Puppy, and tried LinuxMint Mate17.1 which had the SAME bug, I deleted LinuxMint, and burned a live disc of Debian 8 (Jessie) the SAME bug resurfaced while running from the DVD. It does not seem to be a matter of what desk top environment is being used ie.: Gnome 3, Unity, LXDE, Xfce, or Kde. It did not seem as prevalent in Gnome 2.30. Right now I am running Kubuntu 14.04 it has the SAME BUG, but only appears when I try to use Fire Fox on youtube with a full screen video. I have tried these installs on two different systems: Mobo: Asus M3A78-CM ( have tried legacy on Auto and Enabled) Video: ATI Readon HD 5000 series Mouse: I have logitech optical wired BJ58, Gearhead optical wired OM3400U , Microsoft Sculp model 1560 wireless, logitech optical wireless mouse M705 Mobo: Asus M2NBP-VM CSM ( have tried legacy on Auto and Enabled) Video: ATI Readon HD 4000 series. Mouse: same as listed above This BUG affect what seems like ALL .deb bases ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1509866 Title: Left Mouse Click NOT working in Linux To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/1509866/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1470862] Re: When using fglrx module, the virtual consoles are blank and useless
I could get rid of the problem through upgrading to 15.10 and getting rid of fglrx - BUT! - I was greeted with a black screen at first My displays could not be detected. Via ssh I remotely logged in from another computer and completely removed my ati drivers, removed my Xorg.conf, and reinstalled Xorg (https://askubuntu.com/questions/68306 /how-do-i-remove-the-proprietary-ati-drivers). Trying that please be sure you have remote access to your computer or could find yourself stuck in front of a black screen! So now I can agree Alberto Salvia Novella. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with kernel 4.2
Hi all. I too had the problem, much the same way as I had with 14.04 LTS some months ago. This time I followed this post and managed to uninstall fglrx-* packages and get my system to boot again: http://askubuntu.com/questions/620869/15-04-installed-fglrx-amd-ati- drivers-wont-boot But anyways, I agree with those who said that it's unpleasant to be faced with the issue of a non-functioning system basically within the last 3 releases or something. It could be OK for non-LTS releases, because you know you're about to get the bleeding edge software, but I hope that would not come again on the next LTS :) In the meantime, a huge THANKS to all the people involved in the fix. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1493888 Title: FGLRX incompatible with kernel 4.2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/1493888/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509792] [NEW] only function keys but not the regular keys working, acer aspire U5 620
Public bug reported: After installing Ubuntu on a new Acer aspire u5 620 I found that the wireless keyboard is not working properly (Keyboard: Acer KBRF96211). The mouse works just fine and I can use the arrow keys in the grub menu (so I am sure the usb plug is working). Moreover, I just realized, that while pressing Fn the function keys are working but not the regular keys (either with or without pressing the function key)?! I have tried it with 14.10 15.04 and 15.10. I disabled the touchscreen in the file 10-evdev.conf to make sure it does not interfere with the wireless keyboard but nothing changed. When I plug in a regular usb-keyboard it is recognized immediately and works fine. Did anyone experience this before? Can you think of a workaround to "establish contact" to the other keys on the keyboard? Or do you see a chance to obtain or adapt specific drivers? I really like Ubuntu and want to keep using it, any help would be appreciated ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+7ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.2.0-16.19-generic 4.2.3 Uname: Linux 4.2.0-16-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.19.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sun Oct 25 12:40:27 2015 DistUpgraded: 2015-10-25 08:41:39,601 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: wily DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bcmwl, 6.30.223.248+bdcom, 3.19.0-31-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 6.30.223.248+bdcom, 4.2.0-16-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0416] (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0859] Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0859] InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-10-27 (363 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140722.2) MachineType: Acer Aspire U5-620 ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.2.0-16-generic.efi.signed root=UUID=4b1b5f51-933c-44bc-a59b-9cd27b3a6af5 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to wily on 2015-10-25 (0 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 03/28/2014 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: P11-A1 dmi.board.name: Aspire U5-620 dmi.board.vendor: Acer dmi.chassis.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.type: 13 dmi.chassis.vendor: Acer dmi.chassis.version: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvrP11-A1:bd03/28/2014:svnAcer:pnAspireU5-620:pvr:rvnAcer:rnAspireU5-620:rvr:cvnAcer:ct13:cvrToBeFilledByO.E.M.: dmi.product.name: Aspire U5-620 dmi.sys.vendor: Acer version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.12.2+15.10.20151015-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.64-1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 11.0.2-1ubuntu4 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 11.0.2-1ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.17.2-1ubuntu9 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.9.2-1ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.5.0+git20150819-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20150808-0ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.11-1ubuntu3 xserver.bootTime: Sun Oct 25 12:17:19 2015 xserver.configfile: default xserver.errors: Failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist, 0) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist, 0) xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.outputs: product id 61745 vendor ACR xserver.version: 2:1.17.2-1ubuntu9 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug compiz-0.9 ubuntu wily -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1509792 Title: only function keys but not the regular keys working, acer aspire U5 620 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1509792/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
