[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1516768] [NEW] Multimonitor fullscreen resolution is too large
Public bug reported: When a game (Shadowrun Hong Kong or Dominions4) is started in fullscreen mode for the first time with two or more monitors active it reads the resolution of a surface equivalent to the monitors summed plus the surface needed to form a virtual giant monitor: For intance, having a 1024x768 display plus a 1280x960 would show an initial resolution bigger than 2400x1600 pixels, actually more in the range of 3600x2704 (4:3 ratio). This makes that the menu of the games (or eventual programs) cannot be used. Eventually this effect also misplaces the monitors in on the configuration screen if one manages to change the resolution: After having this problem just yesterday with Dominions4 I was able to use the cursors to change the resolution to 800x600 observing that the configuration screen had placed both monitors almost on top of each other so that the mouse pointer was not visible. One possible workaround is to set the screens to mirrored so that both get the pointer (quite difficult to find the pointer though but you can circulate with the TAB key). Another workaroud it so -physically- remove one of the monitors, this means removing the cable, putting the monitor on standby does not work. I think that it would be positive to resolve this bug as it is in fact causing a lot of extra workload to the gaming companies and their support staff. Kind regards, Enric ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: xserver-xorg (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.19.0-32.37~14.04.1-generic 3.19.8-ckt7 Uname: Linux 3.19.0-32-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.18 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Mon Nov 16 20:57:24 2015 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: trusty DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bcmwl, 6.30.223.248+bdcom, 3.19.0-28-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 6.30.223.248+bdcom, 3.19.0-30-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 6.30.223.248+bdcom, 3.19.0-31-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 6.30.223.248+bdcom, 3.19.0-32-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, including running git bisection searches GraphicsCard: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. I have recently seen an increase in unexpected X crashes while using my machine, sending me back to the login screen and losing the state of my open applications. I use a ThinkPad T540p with Intel graphics and Ubuntu 15.10 (upgraded from 15.04). I use Xrandr to configure and position my external and internal displays, including the use of the --panning/--scale/--dpi options to help my external display behave more like my internal HiDPI display (in case that's relevant to this problem). I heavily use PhpStorm, a JetBrains IDE from their IDEA family built in Java. The last two times this crash has happened to me (Friday and today), I was interacting with the IDE at the time. I saved a copy of Xorg.0.log.old both times and will attempt to attach both to this report (their backtraces differ a bit). During the first crash I believe I was simply interacting with the UI in some way; During the second crash, I had just clicked the window decoration's "X" button to close PhpStorm. Please let me know if there's something I can do to help diagnose the crash further. In the meantime, I've installed the -dbg packages for xorg-core and xorg-video-intel in the hopes that future backtraces might be more useful. If I see this crash again, I'll post the log here in the comments. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1516213] Re: Lowering the brightness turns the monitor black in ubuntu 14.04
Roopa, to advise: 1) You don't have to apport-collect more than once, or any further to this report. 2) Please _stop_ marking yourself as "Assigned to", as I mentioned to you in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/comments/21 . Despite this, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product- support/product/inspiron-15-3542-laptop/drivers/advanced an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A08). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your understanding. ** Attachment removed: "xserver.devices.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519913/+files/xserver.devices.txt ** Attachment removed: "xdpyinfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519912/+files/xdpyinfo.txt ** Attachment removed: "Xrandr.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519911/+files/Xrandr.txt ** Attachment removed: "XorgLogOld.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519910/+files/XorgLogOld.txt ** Attachment removed: "XorgLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519909/+files/XorgLog.txt ** Attachment removed: "UnitySupportTest.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519908/+files/UnitySupportTest.txt ** Attachment removed: "UdevLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519907/+files/UdevLog.txt ** Attachment removed: "UdevDb.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519906/+files/UdevDb.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcModules.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519905/+files/ProcModules.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcInterrupts.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519904/+files/ProcInterrupts.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcEnviron.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519903/+files/ProcEnviron.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcCpuinfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519902/+files/ProcCpuinfo.txt ** Attachment removed: "Lsusb.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519901/+files/Lsusb.txt ** Attachment removed: "Lspci.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519900/+files/Lspci.txt ** Attachment removed: "GconfCompiz.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519899/+files/GconfCompiz.txt ** Attachment removed: "DpkgLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519898/+files/DpkgLog.txt ** Attachment removed: "Dependencies.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519897/+files/Dependencies.txt ** Attachment removed: "CurrentDmesg.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519896/+files/CurrentDmesg.txt ** Attachment removed: "BootLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519895/+files/BootLog.txt ** Attachment removed: "BootDmesg.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519894/+files/BootDmesg.txt ** Attachment removed: "xserver.devices.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519893/+files/xserver.devices.txt ** Attachment removed: "xdpyinfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519892/+files/xdpyinfo.txt ** Attachment removed: "Xrandr.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519891/+files/Xrandr.txt ** Attachment removed: "XorgLogOld.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519890/+files/XorgLogOld.txt ** Attachment removed: "XorgLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1516213/+attachment/4519889/+files/XorgLog.txt ** Attachment removed: "UnitySupportTest.txt"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1516888] [NEW] ubuntu 14.04 broken graphics driver via additional drivers radeon hd 6250
Public bug reported: originally thought mine was the same as the # 1511301 bug so i left comments there about it but after reading through it a bunch of times, mine is very similar but might be different enough that you might want a separate bug report. hope i'm doing the right thing re bug reporting. let me know i;m amd radeon hd 6250 ubuntu 14.04 so i went into additional drivers for my sound wasn't working, and thought i would try the open source amd driver, but after a reboot everything was all stretched and intensely slow so went back in to additional drivers to revert back but it wouldn't let me do it. it wouldn't let me me select any other option than the open source and then when i rebooted again a manual driver option appeared and wouldn't let me select any other option and the additional drivers page looked different than it had. when i opened the software updater to get back into additional drivers and it did say it wanted to update a driver in updates so i let it, but it said it failed, but it kept wanting to update even thought it said it already had, and the updates kept failing, and saying go to package manager. accidentally opened software center and it prompted me to fix problem and then couldn't fix it either and kept opening itself back up again to try and fix it found the broken package in package manager fglrx-amdcccle and tried to reinstall but got this error in package manager ( E: Internal Error, No file name for fglrx-amdcccle:i386l) did sudo apt-get -f, but no joy, said there were missing packages. last thing i tried in terminal before i gave up tonight sudo apt-get install fglrx fglrx-amdcccle and this is what happened (which looked very much like what happened when i tried to reinstall it in package manager) Reading package lists... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1516531] [NEW] Fullscreen Freeze.
Public bug reported: Related?: http://askubuntu.com/questions/692405/ubuntu-15-10-unity-freezes-after-escaping-full-screen-video https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1509622 I've been having cases of unusual screen behavior, particularly when Kodi 16 is being used (maybe it's just a Kodi thing). There have been times before when coming out of fullscreen video using either Chrome or Kodi would drop me to a console screen with no input. I think I would be able to kill the gnome session in tty1. Now, after a bios upgrade as well as the latest display manager and kernel update, Kodi has frozen in fullscreen a couple of times and yet audio will still play from Kodi. I created the bug report in tty1. I've also been noticing that if I pause a Kodi video, other non-Kodi applications may not update their window content. For example, I may be in a webpage in Chrome and I try to mousewheel scroll, yet not see the scrolling effect. Or I will click on a different tab and the window doesn't show the switch. BUT, if I continue playing the Kodi video, Chrome will update it's screen, and if I switch back to the tab I scrolled, the scroll will have already occurred. I will say that I have at least not had a fullscreen GUI crash me out to console. Another peculiarity is when booting Ubuntu, I used to be able to press ESC to view the kernel/system booting output, but now it just shows a black screen with a cursor. The downside to that in 15.04 was I'd lose my mouse cursor when the GUI login screen came up. Let me know what other output you'd like (or whatever test you'd like me to try) "when" it happens again. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "ubuntu-bug saved xorg report about fullscreen screen using Kodi" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1516531/+attachment/4520003/+files/ubuntu-bug_xorg_fullscreenFreeze.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1516531 Title: Fullscreen Freeze.
