2016-01-10 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ads2, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

Could you please provide the full computer model (ex. iMedia xx.U8L) as
noted on the sticker of the computer itself (not from the Bug
Description)?

Tr4sK, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

To clarify, when you get the segmentation fault, is there a crash file
in /var/crash?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1530171] Re: [Regression] Thinkpad dock: External monitors not recognized after 15.04 upgrade

2016-01-10 Thread aexl
Thank you christopher for this reminder, i did not knw that BIOS had to
be updated.

Unfortunately the BIOS update did not change anything.

(Note: On the linked page the current BIOS is labeled 1.82, but the
bootable ISO as well as its README (and the readme of the windows BIOS
updater) announce 1.81, as does my updated BIOS. So Lenovo seems to have
it got wrong. See
https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/j4uj65wd.txt )

xl@thinker:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s
bios-release-date
[sudo] password for xl:
J4ET81WW(1.81)
08/14/2015

Note to the above apport data:
I did the aport twice.
The first config was WITH 2 external monitors over the dock.
The second WITHOUT these monitors.
Guessing this might help.

(but some stuff may be broken as i had a strange 503 exception on the command
line, containing:
At least 4 queries/external actions issued in 0.06 seconds
OOPS-4ade3bac7cd0be6540a006ad87bf530b
)

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => New

** Description changed:

External monitors are not recognized in display settings when plugged
  into any dock port.

They *are* recognized after a reboot (not after logout).
After plugging out and the in again they are not recognized.

A monitor plugged in and out of the non-dock VGA is recognized instantly.
- After plugging in or out of the non-dock VGA, monitors plugged to dock ports
are recognized (which serves as a crazy workaround for me now).
+ After plugging in or out of the non-dock VGA, monitors plugged to dock ports
are recognized (which serves as a crazy workaround for me now)
+ (update: this works sometimes, sometimes not).

Everything used to work with 14.10, but stopped with 15.04.

A recent test with 1510 live CD did not fix this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1531316] Re: Totem in full screen crashes Xorg

2016-01-10 Thread forteller
Sure, I can do that if it doesn't matter that:

1. That is "normal" Ubuntu, not Ubuntu Gnome.
2. I'll run it from a live USB.

Will all the conditions still be there to be sure that if Totem in full
screen doesn't crash Xorg there it will not do it in my real life
scenario either?

Thanks for changing the importance, btw! :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1524098] Re: Problems with graphics video streaming

2016-01-10 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
John Neufeld, as per http://support.hp.com/us-
en/drivers/selfservice/hp-110-500-desktop-pc-
series/7450567/model/7748407#Z7_3054ICK0K8UDA0AQC11TA930C7 an update to
your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (80.08). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status New. If it's not reproducible, please mark
this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1528321] Re: Everything hangs when coming out of fullscreen in chrome

2016-01-10 Thread Starbeamrainbowlabs
@penalvch If what is installed?

Now that I'm not so tired, I can give some extra information. I tried it
with a clean xenial daily build, in which I installed chrome and then
tested it. It was probably an unfair test though, as chrome was pretty
unusable due to some serious graphical glitches.

I open Firefox and after some minutes using it, suddenly the screen
display is "visually damaged" by a lot of very thin horizontal white
lines. This began to happen after upgrading to Kubuntu 15.10 and someone
via IRC suggested me this workaround: Go to KDE System Settings ->
Display configuration -> Compositor -> Tearing prevention (vsync) = set
to 'never'; I did that and by fortune it worked!

After this bug is reviewed and solved, I would like to restore the
Tearing prevention (vsync) setting to "Automatic" again.

Thanks in advance for attending this.

Christopher,

you're a darling!

I updated the bios to 1.8, and I managed to build my project in Android
Studio a number of times without any freezes. That's more than I've been
able to do in the last four or so months. As I have thought the problem
had gone before, can we keep the bug open for another few days? I'll let
you know, soon as I went through 48 hours without a "100% cpu freeze",
you can close the bug.
I'm really happy.

Where can I send the flowers? (in Amsterdam, that's what you send people
when you're grateful).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1527829] Re: displayport MST external monitors don't return from sleep mode

2016-01-10 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Derek, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-
support/product/xps-13-9333/drivers/advanced an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A08). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. If it's not reproducible, please
mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1532500] Re: Trackpad doesn't work after login

2016-01-10 Thread David
Hi Christopher,

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I downloaded xenial-dexktop-amd64.iso dated 07-Jan-2016 08:56 and booted from
USB.

It took me directly to the desktop, so I didn't test on the login screen.
On the desktop, external mouse and touchscreen work as expected. The trackpad
is unresponsive.

In unity-control-center->all settings->Mouse & Trackpad I tried toggling
the touchpad off and on. No effect.

The Samsung ativ book 9 pro has a trackpad-on/off function key (Fn-F5).
Also no effect.

Let me know how else I can help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1529932] Re: X session crashes with EQ overflowing

2016-01-10 Thread hardhu
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu xenial

** Description changed:

On my very old laptop, that is equipped with an Ati Mobility Radeon
X700, sometimes (and, sadly, I have to use this word, because I found no
regularity pattern for the occurrence of this bug) randomly the desktop
session locks, that is I can only move the mouse pointer, but I cannot
interact anymore with the desktop session. I am forced to login trough
ssh from another pc and to restart the laptop.

In Xorg.0.log I found these lines that are, in my opinion, related to
  the crash:

(EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing
events are processed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1511972] Re: Can't run free ati driver

2016-01-10 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
inferrna, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/F2A55M_LK/HelpDesk_Download/
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available
(6701). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status New. If it's not reproducible, please mark
this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1530171] Re: [Regression] Thinkpad dock: External monitors not recognized after 15.04 upgrade

2016-01-10 Thread aexl
Thanks christopher for taking care of this! I'll do this in an instant.

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 ubuntu vivid

** Description changed:

On Thinkpad L540 with intel graphics:

External monitors are not recognized in display settings when plugged
  into any dock port.

They *are* recognized after a reboot (not after logout).
After plugging out and the in again they are not recognized.

A monitor plugged in and out of the non-dock VGA is recognized instantly.
After plugging in or out of the non-dock VGA, monitors plugged to dock ports
are recognized (which serves as a crazy workaround for me now).

Everything used to work with 14.10, but stopped with 15.04.

A recent test with 1510 live CD did not fix this.
