[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1543746] Re: Xorg crash prevents login
** Description changed: After a recent update, it's no more possible to log in to Ubuntu 16.04 - trough lightdm with Unity. + when using lightdm to access to Unity. - I'm attaching .xsession-errors hoping it can be useful. + If I try to login lightdm disappears as if it was loading Unity, but + after a few seconds the login prompt appears again. - I'm reporting this from another partition with Trusty, because I did'n - know how to report without any GUI. I'm willing to add details if anyone - helps me on how to send them from the CLI. + ### Workaround ### + + Current workaround has been to purge all nvidia drivers, as nvidia-352 + was installed. + + + The same driver (nvidia-352) works correctly in trusty, and until recently it used to work even on xenial. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1501041] Re: No visible display in non gnome sessions when using nvidia drivers via nvidia-prime until screen goes to sleep, then waked up
I believe this may be a kernel regression. I can repro on 15.04 with sddm by installing any 4.x series kernel, haven't done any bisecting, and can't find anything interesting in dmesg (when I can switch to a vc sucessfully after X starts but fails to output anything), but with a single change from 3.19 to any of the mainline PPA 4.x kernels, the problem is immediately evident, and occasinally CPU locks up (SKL), but only when both GPUs are enabled (I have a BIOS hardware mux that I can use to force Nvidia only, which is what I'm doing currently to have a usable system and avoid recompiling iwl 8260 drivers for 3.19 every kernel update). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1501041 Title: No visible display in non gnome sessions when using nvidia drivers via nvidia-prime until screen goes to sleep, then waked up To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/1501041/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

For me, also only en_US is preselected, and once I select my username and begin typing, it automatically switches to de_DE including the correct flag. That might be yet another "old cauldron" issue, Colin did implement some stuff with localectl AFAIU, so maybe sddm works fine on new installs of Mageia 5 beta 3. I'll check that in a VM. Gee thanks, Looks like you don't fix issues, you just leave them open and when you don't feel like fixing anything, you close it so it looks like you did something to help which you didn't. Thanks for nothing. On Tue, Feb 9, 2016 at 4:20 AM, Marc Deslauriers < marc.deslauri...@canonical.com> wrote: > This particular bug has been closed for a long time. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1511476] Re: Unstable unity session
Roger Tri, to advise, you wouldn't ever want to manually attach crash files to reports. Instead, you would want to file a new report against them. For more on this, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . Also, your crash has nothing to do with this issue (you have a Google Chrome crash), while the scope of this report is not yet precisely defined in root cause. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1510970 Intel driver crashes on Ubuntu 15.10 ** Attachment removed: "_opt_google_chrome_chrome.1000.crash" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1511476/+attachment/4567587/+files/_opt_google_chrome_chrome.1000.crash -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1511476 Title: Unstable unity session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1511476/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1543872] [NEW] Desktop streched across both screens
Public bug reported: I have a intel laptop with a nvidia k2100m quadro GPU. Intel HD graphics controls the internal display and the nvidia card handles the display port out. When trying to utilize a dual monitor setup the output of the desktop looks like its been stretched across both displays. It appears like the resolution is very low and the mouse pointer is incorrectly calibrated with its location on the screen. The dual monitor setup is completely useless with this bug. I believe this https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1382462 is the same issue filed way back in 2014. However, it was never resolved. This is a pretty big issue. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1543872] Re: Desktop streched across both screens
sjp333, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5428369=8=4192 an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.34). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible: 1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an apport-collect): sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement or not. 3) Please mark this report Status New. If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-1.34 ** Description changed: - I have a intel laptop with a nvidia k2100m quadro GPU. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319] Re: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves
No it wasn't. I saw this issue in 13.10, 14.04, 14.10, 15.04, and now 15.10. So if it was fixed in 12.04, then it was only fixed in that version. Funny that I have a new bug altogether and yet the symptoms are identical in every way. More liked Occam's Razor states that either the issue was never fixed, or more complex description of it being fixed, then a magical being appeared from the sky and made a completely different issue that is identical in every way, but is apparently not the same thing. You tell me if that sounds like a completely different bug or if it's a lazy person who didn't fix it at all or correctly. You just made me check, and the patch that fixed this in 12.04 is definitely included in 14.04. You are getting a different bug with the same symptoms. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1543458] Re: Xorg crash prevents login
The "Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0"" message suggests it's indeed a problem with the GPU. I found that it could be caused by bugs with nvidia drivers.
