2016-03-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Felicia, the next step to determine potential optimizations would be to
use bootchart to compare 13.04 to 16.04. Could you please post the
results of this here?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313332] Re: 45+ seconds to boot

2016-03-06 Thread Felicia
Hi Christopher,

I've loaded the 16.04 version that you pointed me to alongside my current
14.04 version. I videoed the booting process so that I could compare the
startup time. 14.04 took about 57 sec from GRUB to desktop display. 16.04
takes about 52 secs from GRUB to desktop display. That's still longer than
version 13.04 which I think was under 30 +/- sec to startup.

Now that I have it, I'll keep trying out 16.04. Thank you for giving me the
opportunity to be part of the testing.

Sincerely,

Felicia

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1548052] Re: New Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS intel video driver Xorg segmentation fault

2016-03-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
kay, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing.

Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your
crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a
terminal:
cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y
dist-upgrade && sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in
/etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open a terminal,
navigate to your /var/crash directory and file your report with:
sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. By
default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker
infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this,
please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker .

However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted
to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one
would need to open the following file via a terminal:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and file the crash report via:
sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/FILENAME.crash

Where FILENAME is the actual name of the file found in the folder.

However, this report is being closed since the process outlined above
will deal with this issue more efficiently.

Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1548717] Re: Lenovo E460 kernel panic with onelink pro dock and external screen

2016-03-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Gergely Kalmar, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ?
Please keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the
daily folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report Status Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

  I have a Lenovo ThinkPad E460 and a Lenovo ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock.
  Everything works fine, except for the external screen ports on the dock.
  When I plug in an external screen to the DVI or DisplayPort, the system
  freezes. I've attached a screenshot of the errors I get.

  The setup was working fine in Windows 10. The HDMI port on the laptop

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1548052] Re: New Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS intel video driver Xorg segmentation fault

2016-03-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
kay, to clarify, only regarding a crash report, you wouldn't want to
attach it manually to any report as it is the wrong work flow.

Also, regarding any file one is thinking of attaching to Launchpad,
please don't compress/tar files as it makes it harder for folks to
review.

Despite this, could you please advise what is the name of the crash file
precisely?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1186800] Re: [830 v3.7 regression] Video goes blank and system hangs (using an old kernel fix it)

2016-03-06 Thread Federico Leoni
Christopher,

as soon as possible I'll have a look with a newest release based on xfce or
lxde. This notebook is not my primary machine but just a spare one I used
to debug when I was part of the Lububtu team.

With such an Adapter U just don't get the EDID transported well (not at
all). This ugly truth hits up sometimes in the Help-forums. So just
don't use or U have to fill in the information manually.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1090570] Re: When starting blender screen goes black and login returns

2016-03-06 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi penvalch! I'm 99.9% certain it isn't happening in 14.04.4. Although i
would need to test it to answer for 15.04 nor 15.10, blender being a
popular package, i think we would know it by now if this bug was present
in them.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1547800] Re: gpu stuck on render ring

2016-03-06 Thread Robert Jordens
This currently occurs pretty much every time I resume from suspend but
only if the machine was suspended for a longer time. Independent of
whether chromium is shown or maximized.

I'll have to wait a while to be able to say whether it occurs with
chromium hw acceleration off but I bet it doesn't

This exact issue did not appear until a few weeks ago.

** Description changed:

  I have a Lenovo ThinkPad E460 and a Lenovo ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock.
  Everything works fine, except for the external screen ports on the dock.
  When I plug in an external screen to the DVI or DisplayPort, the system
  freezes. I've attached a screenshot of the errors I get.

  The setup was working fine in Windows 10. The HDMI port on the laptop
  works fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1553678] [NEW] os-prober doesn't detect Windows properly with EFI and MBR partition

2016-03-06 Thread kay
Public bug reported:

https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/d-i/os-prober.git/tree/os-
probes/mounted/x86/05efi#n42..n45

Disk has regular MBR table. It has Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed on
different partitions. Os-prober doesn't detect EFI partition on MBR
table because "udevadm info" returns "dos" partition scheme instead of
expected "msdos".

  $ udevadm info /dev/sda1 | grep  dos
  E: ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME=dos
  E: ID_PART_TABLE_TYPE=dos

  $ fdisk -lu /dev/sda | grep -B1 -A1 ef
 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
  /dev/sda1   *2048  616447  307200   ef  EFI (FAT-12/16/32)
  /dev/sda2  616448   128134439637589967  HPFS/NTFS/exFAT

Fixing conditions below resolves the issue:

-   \( "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" != gpt -a "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" !=
msdos \) -o \
+   \( "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" != gpt -a "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" !=
dos \) -o \
\( "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" = gpt -a "$ID_PART_ENTRY_TYPE" !=
c12a7328-f81f-11d2-ba4b-00a0c93ec93b \) -o \
-   \( "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" = msdos -a "$ID_PART_ENTRY_TYPE" !=
0xef \) ]; then
+   \( "$ID_PART_ENTRY_SCHEME" = dos -a "$ID_PART_ENTRY_TYPE" !=
0xef \) ]; then

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 301278] Re: All SDL apps crash in DirectFB on PPC

2016-03-06 Thread Leslie Viljoen
Sorry, this was reported over 7 years ago, I doubt it has any relevance
any more. My old Mac Mini is long since packed away and probably too
slow to be worth using with today's software. Thanks for taking a look
though.

Should I close this bug report or something?
