[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1575428] Re: When i run a video with 1080 pixel my player donot run smoothly

2016-04-26 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1575412] Re: Graphical glitches when certain OpenGL games go fullscreen

2016-04-26 Thread Ty Young
** Description changed:

When launching certain OpenGL games, graphical glitches consisting of
current or recently closed applications can be seen at the very bottom
of the screen as the window goes fullscreen.

This mostly only happens on games that load a lot of data before
starting. Smaller games usually start with little or not graphical
  glitches.

+ While I am not 100% sure, this bug may also be causing a cut-out of the
+ bootloader on all TTY console screens, making them very hard to use as
+ well as the bootloader screen showing until the Gnome shell loads.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1547599] Re: legacy nvidia drivers fail to work with latest kernel

2016-04-26 Thread MensVeritas
Also experiencing this issue, on a Sony Vaio laptop. The card is an
Nvidia GeForce 8400M GT. It was working under 15.10.

The latest driver in the graphics-drivers PPA, nvidia-364, does not
support the video card:

[ 243.591384] NVRM: The NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT GPU installed in this system is
NVRM: supported through the NVIDIA 340.xx Legacy drivers. Please
   NVRM: visit http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html for more
NVRM: information. The 364.19 NVIDIA driver will ignore
   NVRM: this GPU. Continuing probe...

The current recommended driver in the graphics-drivers PPA, nvidia-352,
also does not support the card:

[ 183.787047] NVRM: The NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT GPU installed in this system is
NVRM: supported through the NVIDIA 340.xx Legacy drivers. Please
   NVRM: visit http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html for more
NVRM: information. The 361.42 NVIDIA driver will ignore
   NVRM: this GPU. Continuing probe...

For some reason installing the package nvidia-352 also installs the
package nvidia-361. The one option in the graphics-drivers PPA after the
driver-recommended version 340 but before the PPA-recommended version
352 is 346. Installing nvidia-346 also installs nvidia-352 and
nvidia-361 and so gives the same message as nvidia-352.

The version those later driver versions recommend, 340, seemingly fails
in some way. It apparently does load but then gives the same error
mentioned in the OP. This happens both when I install that version of
the driver manually, either nvidia-340 or nvidia-340-updates, using
`sudo apt-get install nvidia-340` or `sudo apt-get install
nvidia-340-updates`:

[ 17.015956] nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.

[   17.758284] NVRM: nvidia_frontend_open: minor 0, module->open() failed,
error -5

And when I let Ubuntu install it automatically, using `sudo ubuntu-
drivers autoinstall`:

[ 20.921331] nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
[ 20.921336] Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint
[ 20.934363] nvidia: module verification failed: signature and/or required

[   21.415127] NVRM: nvidia_frontend_open: minor 0, module->open() failed,

The last 4 lines happen multiple times in the dmesg log, I guess
whenever something tries to use the nvidia kernel module:

[ 17.757950] NVRM: failed to copy vbios to system memory.
[ 17.758187] NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x30:0x:747)

[   17.758284] NVRM: nvidia_frontend_open: minor 0, module->open() failed,
error -5

The older driver package nvidia-304 (also reported by ubuntu-drivers as
compatible with the card) seemingly loads fine but then gives a similar
error whenever I execute a program that tries to use it. The alternative
package nvidia-304-updates also does this:

[ 20.868063] nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
[ 20.868070] Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1575391] [NEW] GPU compositors do not work on r300-class Radeon cards on PPC hardware

2016-04-26 Thread ernsteiswuerfel
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu MATE 16.04 one can select 4 compositing modes via MATE Tweak (german
translation):
1. Marco (kein Komposit)
2. Marco (Programmkomposit)
3. Marco (Compton GPU-Komposit)
4. Compiz (anspruchsvolle Schreibtischeffekte mit GPU-Beschleunigung)

On my PowerMac G5 7,3 with a Radeon 9650 Pro only the 1st one works properly.
The 2nd one works, but more sluggish and a jerkier mouse pointer. 3 and 4 trash
the desktop showing wrong colours. Only VERY jerky mouse movement is possible
then. The desktop is no longer in a usable state any longer, you can't click on
anything. Restarting the desktop with "systemctl restart lightdm" from console
returns the desktop usable (defaulting to 1st compositor.
Same problem on my PowerBook 5,6.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1575301] Re: GPU Hang [i915 / drm] crashes whole session; triggered by LibreOffice dialog boxes (regression)

2016-04-26 Thread Adam Colligan
** Description changed:

This behavior began sometime in April 2016 (while using Ubuntu 16.04
Beta 2, Unity) and has continued to the present.

Dialog boxes in LibreOffice (including the automated recovery dialog on
LO start) started displaying garbled text and garbled or missing button
icons. Interacting with them -- or often even their appearance at all --
causes a rapid crash of the whole graphical session and a free trip back
- to the login screen. Syslog shows a GPU hang.
+ to the login screen. Syslog shows a GPU hang (stuck on render ring).

This is an Intel Core i7-4510U with Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics
Controller (HP Envy x360 convertible laptop).

Before the upgrade from 15.10 to 16.04, I had the xorg-edgers repository
enabled and then had used the installation tool from 01.org to install
the Intel graphics stack. As part of troubleshooting this, I have
  removed/purged the 01.org sources/packages/modules as best I could
(16.04 not supported) and also disabled the edgers repository. This has
  not affected the bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1566487] Re: Container apps should use same keyboard layout as Unity 8

2016-04-26 Thread Christopher Townsend
After doing some more investigation, there is a new Mir input event
called mir_event_type_keymap which is sent every time a Mir surface is
focused. This event should be caught by Xmir and handled by applying
the sent keymap to the current Xmir/Mir surface.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1575128] [NEW] unity dialogues split between 2 monitors

2016-04-26 Thread Jamison Phillips
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading from Ubuntu 15.10 to 16.04, Unity is now shown across
both my monitors in a hard to use manner: unity dialogues, such as the
log-out and shutdown popups, are displayed centered between both
monitors, so the left half is on one monitor, and the right half on
another. Also, the unity top panel indicators and clock used to be on
both monitors, but are now only on the right monitor.

More info since it is likely relevant:
I have a Dell laptop with an NVidia Prime GPU and Intel built-in GPU. This
laptop has always been trouble configuring for dual monitors. The
nvidia-settings controls only shows one monitor, though it is supposed to show
two. I have never been able to get a working xorg.conf for the two monitors,
despited 2 days of trying (and I am a software developer well versed in reading
docs). The instructions in the nvidia docs simply don't work as stated for this
hardware (Dell XPS 17 L702X). Purging all graphics settings doesn't help.
Upgrading to a newer nvidia driver didn't help (I've tried the latest official
nvidia package as well as one newer). As a result, I've been using an xrandr
command and compiz display settings since Ubuntu 15.10. This worked perfectly
in 15.10. But, as stated, the unity top panel and dialogues are not working
properly in 16.04.

I tried Nvidia 361.42 and 364.19 from the PPA at
http://ppa.launchpad.net/graphics-drivers/ppa/ubuntu.

The xrandr command in use is:
xrandr --fb 3520x1080 --output HDMI-0 --preferred --primary --mode 1920x1080
--pos 0x0 --panning 3520x1080+0+0/3520x1080+0+0/0/0/-3520/0 --output LVDS-1
--mode 1600x900 --pos 1920x180 --panning 0x0

(I know the fb sets up a wide virtual screen, but as stated, in 15.10,
that worked perfectly for unity)

In compiz display settings I have the following "Outputs" set:
1920x1080+0+0
1600x900+1920+180

It would appear in 16.04, Unity ignores the compiz outputs whereas in
15.10 it does not. But that's just a guess.

Sorry I cannot get a screenshot of the dialogues. They seem to block
Ubuntu's screenshot program due to their modal nature.

Can this bug get some attention? It's really debilitating not being able
to use the two big monitors I have and to be restricted to the built-in
one.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1522976] Re: GNOME/X randomly freezes after clicking on something

2016-04-26 Thread Ads20000
** Description changed:

Sometimes when doing clicking on something in GNOME (or Unity, in 14.04
(haven't tested Unity in 15.10)) like 'Activities' or an application
like Maps in the Applications section of Activities, or even 'Details'
in the GNOME Control Center (or simply clicking on the Unity Control
Center icon in the Launcher in Unity), the computer will freeze and I
can't even switch to a login terminal and have to hard shutdown.

This happens frequently although irregularly. I can usually avoid the
bug if I don't use Activities or Settings..., it doesn't happen with
GNOME Flashback (so I presume it's a problem with Nouveau and '3D'
  desktop environments/window managers).

I'm really sorry I can't be any more specific than this at the moment.
Please point me in the right direction to learn more about this bug if
  need be.

Seems to be a bug that appeared in Linux 3.7
  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=156690 .

The Nvidia 304 drivers don't work at all once logged in.
+
+ Occasionally when this bug occurs the screen shows a terminal-like
+ display with something like 'GPU lockup' written on it. Someone
+ suggested that it may just be because the graphics card in the model is
+ outdated but it has no problems running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS or Windows 8.

2016-04-26 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello Rachel, or anyone else affected,

Accepted xinit into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xinit/1.3.4-3ubuntu0.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1575000] [NEW] font glyph corruption on dialog box

2016-04-26 Thread Walter Garcia-Fontes
Public bug reported:

I get a font glyph corruption in various dialog boxes in libreoffice. This
happens using the following graphic configuration:
  *-display
   description: VGA compatible controller
   product: Bonaire [FirePro W5100]
vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
   physical id: 0
   bus info: pci@:03:00.0
   version: 00
   width: 64 bits
   clock: 33MHz
   capabilities: vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom
   configuration: driver=radeon latency=0

I don't see this in other graphics (NVIDIA, INTEL).

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open for instance LibreOffice Writer
2. Copy some text to the clipboard
3. Open the Paste Special dialog with CTRL-SHIFT-V

I attach a screenshot of the corrupted font.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1574974] [NEW] xlsfonts does not display all fonts

2016-04-26 Thread AlainKnaff
Public bug reported:

Needlessly lost an hour of my time figuring out why I couldn't install
the Abril Fatface font from
http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/list/classification/serif

Whatever howto I followed, the font wouldn't show up in xlsfonts...

... until, on a hunch, I restarted my inkscape, and lo and behold: there
it was.

But why doesn't xlsfonts show it?

1)
> lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS

2)
> apt-cache policy x11-utils
x11-utils:
  Installed: 7.7+1

  Version table:
 *** 7.7+1 0
500 http://be.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
3) What I expected to happen: xlsfonts should show *all* installed fonts
4) What happened instead: xlsfonts showed *some* fonts, but not all
