This didn't seem to be a problem with the driver that came with Ubuntu
15.04, but now that I have upgraded to 16.04, this is definitely a
problem again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1579559] [NEW] Font glyphs do not render correctly in some applications after suspend

2016-05-08 Thread Ethan Blanton
Public bug reported:

After suspend/resume of my laptop, some applications do not reliably
render Xft fonts, leaving the areas where such fonts should be rendered
entirely blank. Both rxvt-unicode and awesome show this problem.
Installed versions of these packages are rxvt-unicode 9.21-1build1 and
awesome 3.5.6-1build1.

Other applications (VMware 11, not an Ubuntu package) render fonts, but
with corruption -- I believe this to be related but cannot be sure.

This appears to be the same bug as Freedesktop.org bug 88584
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88584) and OpenSUSE bug
913425 (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=913425). In
particular, a workaround named on those bugs (setting
COGL_ATLAS_DEFAULT_BLIT_MODE=framebuffer in /etc/environment) appears to
correct the problem here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1579501] [NEW] graphics distorted, lightdm restarting

2016-05-08 Thread Christian Brandt
Public bug reported:

The system was running ubuntu 12.04 without any problems, quite fast and
definitly worth keeping, I was able to play 3D games at decent quality
while using official nvidia drivers. Overall a pretty stable system
based on an Intel 965 Chipset and a Geforce 7600.

I did a clean install of 16.04 and added nvidia-graphics-
drivers-304-updates. At first the system was horribly unstable,
displayed garbage at the slighted GPU load, even starting frozen bubble
in full screen made lightdm restart.

After using "dconf write
/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/opengl/enable-x11-sync false" the
system became stable but display is still often distorted, missing
picture elements, doesn't draw all elements in firefox, scrolling of
firefox and terminal output is missing parts. This happens around once
every minute so it is still workable but unprofessional. Happens a lot
more often in Firefox than any other application.

Also I have the feeling lots of stuff is working a lot slower than it
did in 12.04, e.g. starting frozen bubble in full screen takes a lot
longer than earlier.

I think this error is somewhere between nvidia drivers, compiz and
firefox.

2016-05-08 Thread Herminio
I can verify the patch works. However there are some issues

1. I see my colors are off when I use compiz as my WM and try to rotate
the cube.

2.piglit samity tests fail with this error:
spec/!opengl 1.0/gl-1.0-readpixsanity/gl-1.0-readpixsanity: fail

3. games like alien-arean and supertuxkart crash my system when trying
to load the game.

4. I can play video in mpv using opengl but get the following error:
[vo/opengl] Could not create EGL context!
