[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1586377] Re: Upgardes and updates

2016-05-27 Thread Seth Arnold
I'm sorry, 12.10 reached the end of its supported life two years ago:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Upgrading from such an old release may be quite difficult because the
upgrade path includes releases that are also no longer supported and not
available on the mirror network.

Probably the best way forward is to download and install 16.04 LTS --
more information is available at http://www.ubuntu.com/download -- and
16.04 LTS will be supported for another five years.

Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1586539] [NEW] Major screen flickering in Chromium and Google Chrome

2016-05-27 Thread Vasya Pupkin
Public bug reported:

On a fresh installation of Ubuntu 16.04 I noticed major screen
flickering issues in Chromium and Google Chrome browsers. Since this
never happened in Ubuntu 15.10 with exactly the same Google Chrome
binary, I believe, bug is caused by something that was added/updated in
16.04. I came across some discussions where different people suggested
that it is related to new X.Org version.

Here's a video to show what is happening:
https://youtu.be/l21WsKz3fZc?t=45s

I could fix this flickering with --disable-gpu-compositing switch, but
this slows down page drawing significantly so it can't be considered a
workaround. There is also a Chromium bug report:
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=606152, but I
don't think they will fix an Ubuntu-specific bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-05-27 Thread studoret
Hi,

Good job da_coynul.
I'm pleased to read that you succeed to automate the chvt based script.
Your solution works when I lock/unlock my PC, but not when the PC is locked by
idle time.
Anyway, I prefer to keep your workaround with the Ctrl+c shortcut and set back
the sna acceleration mode.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1584784] Re: With Mir 0.23.0, X apps under Unity8 need interaction to start in pocket-desktop

2016-05-27 Thread Kevin DuBois
I didn't include an Xmir stack trace yesterday because it didn't appear
stuck, it was submitting buffers (black frames) repeatedly.

I compiled Xmir and added some logs. I caught swap_buffers blocking up
in Xmir (in the pocket desktop scenario only, seems to be a racy,
perhaps on how big the frame size is) but it seems the block triggers
the scenario.

And from poking around Xmir when the problem occurs, it seems like the
"BlockHandler" is only called once, and the system stuck submitting
frames repeatedly, instead of servicing the WM+Xapp connection requests.

And furthermore, I think that the system only got in this case with
libertine+UAL+unity8+pocketdesktop because when UAL's involved,
Xmir+WM+Xapp get launched in very close sucession, whereas with the
desktop test plan, they're manually launched, so they start "far" apart.

Ok, we've confirmed that this bug can be fixed by applying the patch to
xfsettingsd from jkampe68 as highlighted in this XFCE Bugzilla bug :

Once applied the screen behavior is as expected (and most importantly

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1549455] Re: Unity8-dash on Intel Atom graphics crashes and restarts continuously [qtubuntu: ASSERT: "eglDestroyContext(mEglDisplay, EglContext) == EGL_TRUE"]

2016-05-27 Thread Gerry Boland
Using simple test apps (lp:~gerboland/+junk/openglwindow &
lp:~gerboland/+junk/qquickwindow-debug), it appears that yes Qt is using
OpenGL 1.4 on X for both raw GL and QtQuick apps.

./qquickwindow-debug
Window format: QSurfaceFormat(version 2.0, options QFlags(), depthBufferSize
24, redBufferSize 8, greenBufferSize 8, blueBufferSize 8, alphaBufferSize 8,
stencilBufferSize 8, samples -1, swapBehavior 2, swapInterval 1, profile 0)
Context format: QSurfaceFormat(version 1.4, options QFlags(0x4),
depthBufferSize 24, redBufferSize 8, greenBufferSize 8, blueBufferSize 8,
alphaBufferSize 8, stencilBufferSize 8, samples -1, swapBehavior 2,
swapInterval 1, profile 0)
GLES: false

The "Context format: ... version 1.4" the thing to look for.

The EGL backend for Qt (X uses the GLX backend) is requiring OpenGl2 or
greater (since that is what the Window is asking for), but the GLX
backend seems to ignore that request, and just work.
