[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1608338] [NEW] Xorg segfaults with AMD HD 7xxx and fresh Ubuntu 16.04

2016-07-31 Thread Brian Rak
Public bug reported:

Tried doing a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 on my rig outfitted with an
HD 7850, and it crashes on boot due to my AMD card installed. When I
removed the AMD card I was able to boot into Ubuntu. AFAIK, the drivers
with Ubuntu should support this card even though it is older, and even
I'm incorrect and it isn't supported, xorg should probably fail more
gracefully than a segfault, thus the bug report.

Note that I wasn't able to even install Ubuntu in the first place
without modifying grub to set radeon.modeset=0 due to the black screen
issue. I believe this modeset might have been set when the crash
occurred. This issue is reproducible every time.

Thanks for your time in looking into this. Note that if the debug information
says intel graphics that's because I needed to remove my card in order to write
this bug report.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1608112] Re: radeon 0000:01:00.0: ring 0 stalled for more than 10016msec

2016-07-31 Thread Robert Unverzagt
After installing the newer Utopic stack and watching some videos in full
screen, the issue hasn't repeated. I believe it's been fixed.

The live disk I used was created a long time ago (hence the 14.05.1
version) which is the reason why newer updates hadn't been installed.
However, the updater never notified me that there were potential updates.
Should I expect necessary updates like this in the future?

Thank you for your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1608287] [NEW] No display output on Radeon HD 8470D AMD A6-6400K AsRock FM2A58M-VG3+ after upgrading to 16.04 from 14.04

2016-07-31 Thread Ivan Baldo
Public bug reported:

Everything was fine on this PC with 14.04, but it doesn't display anything on
16.04.
It doesn't hang because I am able to press CTRL+ALT+F1 and push the power
button and it shutdowns normally.
Booting with "nomodeset" works (with slow software rendering of course).
Upgraded the BIOS from 2.5 to 2.8 and using all the default settings: nothing.
Enabled xenail-proposed-updates and installed everything from there: nothing.
Tried some BIOS tweaks but didn't fix it either.
Radeon HD 8470D AMD A6-6400K AsRock FM2A58M-VG3+.
I have access to this PC (my father PC) once a week to try things.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1608042] Re: 64-bit XUbuntu 16.04 "Xenial" hybrid graphics (Intel + AMD): AMDGPU crashes / freezes / hangs entire system

2016-07-31 Thread Yuri Ribeiro Sucupira
** Description changed:

  COMPUTER: Dell Inspiron 5548 laptop

  CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5500U CPU @ 2.40GHz

  GRAPHICS: Intel-AMD hybrid:
  - CPU-integrated: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Integrated Graphics (driver:
i915)
  - GPU: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Topaz XT [Radeon R7 M260/M265]
(driver: amdgpu)

  OPERATING SYSTEM: 64-bit GNU/Linux XUbuntu 16.04 "Xenial"

  KERNEL: 4.4.0-31-generic

PROBLEM: system hangs / freezes very frequently.
I have Xscreensaver installed and noticed that when it's running an OpenGL
animation (screensaver) and I move the touchpad pointer the screen freezes. I
can still turn the keyboard LED backlight on and off (hence: keyboard doesn't
stop working) but the pointer won't move (touchpad is locked) and I can't
Ctrl-Alt-F[1-6] (switch TTY/terminals). Only solution is to power off my laptop
(press and hold the power button).

I usually select the "Molecule" screensaver (it uses OpenGL), then I
click the "preview" button and wait for about 20 seconds, then I click
the touchpad and the computer hangs.

When I used XUbuntu 14.04 "Trusty" with AMD's fglrx (proprietary) driver
I didn't experience such issue. After upgrading to 16.04 "Xenial" (which
doesn't support fglrx module/driver) amdgpu module is loaded by default
but very frequently hangs the entire system.

Sometimes I'm quick enough to go to TTYS1 and then I get to see some
messages such as "HARD LOCKUP on CPU0" and "HARD LOCKUP on CPU1".
However, it's not a hardware problem because I've already executed the
Dell Hardware Diagnostics straight from the boot (it's an EFI utility),
it tested all the hardware components (CPU, GPU, RAM, keyboard,
touchpad, hard disk etc.) and didn't detect any faulty component.

The attached file "amdgpu-bug.txt" is the reason why I'm pretty
- convinced that the problem is being caused by the amdgpu driver.
+ convinced that the problem is being caused by the amdgpu driver
+ (although it seems to be related to how it interacts with the kernel,
+ thus maybe the problem is kernel-related).

- WORKAROUND: Boot from GRUB with the nomodeset parameter. The graphics
performance becomes terribly slow.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1414321] Re: Please make a sru of xserver-xorg-video-dummy with the constant-dpi patch

2016-07-31 Thread Nathan Rennie-Waldock
Would be great to see the xpra required patches included.
https://xpra.org/svn/Xpra/trunk/rpmbuild/0002-Constant-DPI.patch
https://xpra.org/svn/Xpra/trunk/rpmbuild/0003-fix-pointer-limits-0.3.7.patch
Fix pointer limits is needed as otherwise the pointer area will be limited to
the initial screen size. So, if you attach it on something higher resolution,
you're limited to a smaller area of the screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1608112] Re: radeon 0000:01:00.0: ring 0 stalled for more than 10016msec

2016-07-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Robert Unverzagt, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

As per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack the Utopic
stack you are using is EOL as of August 2016.

If you update to the supported Xenial stack is this still reproducible?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1608192] Re: i dont know

2016-07-31 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html.

We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description
of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also change the title of the bug to something more meaningful.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1001842] Re: No Audio from HDMI After Switching Monitor Off / On

2016-07-31 Thread Stew Fisher
i have the same issue too with ubuntu 16.04 mate, but also i have
changed my distro to Arch Linux and have the same issue, so i dont think
its limited to to Ubuntu.

The other issue is that the bug is intermittent. sometimes it happens
other times its not. I cannot work out what triggers this bug.

the chip im using is: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel
Corporation HD Graphics 520 (rev 07) its a new machine.

The work around that Positvek suggested seemed to work.
