[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1615864] [NEW] Screen resolution not saved after reboot or logout and back in
Public bug reported: Hello, I am having an issue with my screen resolution of 1920x1080. I am using a Vizio 42 inch TV which worked fine with the HDMI connection from the computer to the TV. Every time I boot the computer up I have to go into terminal and type " xrandr -s 1920x1080 " One of the first things I did was go to the System Settings > Software & Updates > Additional Drivers and then select Nividia 304.131 (proprietary, tested). I do this since when Nouveau was first introduced, it never worked with my graphics chipset which is a Nividia 7050. Yes, the chipset is old but worked fine until 16.04. I spent the weekend trying all suggestions that I could find via the search engines along with the help of a few folks on the #ubuntu IRC. Three days later, still no luck and still having to type the xrandr line in the terminal. I even tried adding the xrandr line in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf, That was a disaster at bootup. luckily I was able to get to the terminal and Nano edit the file and reboot. In addition, probably unrelated to this issue, I have also noticed when running any streaming video, now it is almost like watching a slide show. Nothing has changed Internet connection or hardware since the install of 16.04. Even typing this is lagged by 1 to 3 seconds per character typed. Same issue in Firefox or Chrome. But sorry, I digress. This can be looked at in another post, forum or possible bug. The main issue is that Ubuntu 16.04 does not save and or reads the saved settings of 1920x1080 with out the later use via the terminal using xrandr. I did take notice that when booting into the main desktop the mouse pointer is small as if in 1920x1080 but then changes to a larger pointer then the resolution is then 1280x720 which seems to what 16.04 falls back to. The TV reports the proper information under xrandr. gee@HTPC:~$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 4096 x 4096 VGA-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) TV-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-0 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 980mm x 580mm 1280x720 60.00 + 59.94 1920x1080 59.9459.94* 60.0560.0050.04 720x576 50.0050.08 720x480 59.94 640x480 59.93 gee@HTPC:~$ uname-a Linux HTPC 4.4.0-34-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 27 16:06:39 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux This will be the only information I will post this way since it was quite short. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1483276] Re: Unable to launch xdiagnose through the Activities Overview in the normal way
I know it's strange, but I'm almost certain that the version of Ubuntu where I first had the issue, it only came after doing a fresh install, previously it had worked on a fresh install as well. But this update definitely fixes it for me. Seems it doesn't affect all though, but if you can test that the updated version in -proposed doesn't break the functionality for you then I don't see a problem in releasing it if it fixes the problem for those who have it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xdiagnose in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1483276 Title: Unable to launch xdiagnose through the Activities Overview in the normal way To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1483276/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Some more details to my previous comment #9... While installing the 16.10/Yakkety nvidia-340_340.96-0ubuntu6_amd64.deb did get the Nvidia driver working, as shown by the Nvidia logo before the desktop appears, there must have been something slightly amiss about the installation. On trying to run certain programs (e.g. Steam), I got an error message mentioning libGL and swrast. Maybe some symbolic link wasn't made correctly for 16.04 when installing the 16.10 package??? glxgears did seem to work OK however. So that solution isn't perfect, but if someone more knowledgeable than me wants to give it a try, the problem could probably be easily fixed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1573508 Title: nvidia-361 361.42-0ubuntu2: nvidia-361 kernel module failed to build [error: too many arguments to function ‘get_user_pages’] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1573508/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881526] Re: AMD graphics hardware hangs with an homogeneous coloured screen or blank screen, and with chirp coming from the graphics card
I still have the same problem on Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS (4.2.0-42-generic GNU/Linux) with HP notebook 17-y011nc (AMD A10-9600P RADEON R5, 10 COMPUTE CORES 4C+6G; AMD Radeon (TM) R7 M340, on command line it gives me something slightly different: AMD/ATI Topaz XT (Radeon R7 M260/M265)). I use proprietary drivers (fglrx) but using open source drivers before didn't help. I don't use mouse, just touchpad, and when the screen freezes, I can't move mouse pointer with touchpad. Didn't try it with real mouse. Unlike almost all the guys above, Ctrl-Alt-F1 (switch to tty1) doesn't work for me. Music keeps playing but the display is completely frozen. Alt-PrtSc-REISUB works (after E music stops, after B system reboots). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/881526 Title: AMD graphics hardware hangs with an homogeneous coloured screen or blank screen, and with chirp coming from the graphics card To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mesa/+bug/881526/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1586539] Re: Major screen flickering in Chromium and Google Chrome
** Description changed: On a fresh installation of Ubuntu 16.04 I noticed major screen flickering issues in Chromium and Google Chrome browsers. Since this never happened in Ubuntu 15.10 with exactly the same Google Chrome binary, I believe, bug is caused by something that was added/updated in 16.04. I came across some discussions where different people suggested that it is related to new X.Org version. Here's a video to show what is happening: https://youtu.be/l21WsKz3fZc?t=45s I could fix this flickering with --disable-gpu-compositing switch, but this slows down page drawing significantly so it can't be considered a workaround. There is also a Chromium bug report: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=606152, but I don't think they will fix an Ubuntu-specific bug. Update: this indeed happens only when browser window is maximized. - WORKAROUND: Add in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf: + WORKAROUND: - Section "Device" - Identifier "Intel Graphics" - Driver "intel" - Option "AccelMethod" "uxa" - EndSection + 1. sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video-intel + 2. sudo rm /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf (for those who created this file before) + 3. reboot + ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+13ubuntu3 Uname: Linux 4.6.0-040600-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity_support_test.0: ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sat May 28 00:01:20 2016 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: xenial DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: vboxhost, 5.0.20, 4.4.0-22-generic, x86_64: installed vboxhost, 5.0.20, 4.6.0-040600-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0a2e] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
