[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1616742] [NEW] xdiagnose does nothing in Wayland

2016-08-24 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

What happens
===
1. Try Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 Beta on a computer using open source graphics drivers
(Intel is recommended).
2. On the login screen, select your user name. Before entering your password,
click the gear button and choose "GNOME on Wayland". Enter your password and
log in.
3. Try to run xdiagnose.
4. Nothing happens

What I expected
===
1. xdiagnose could be adapted to analyze and report issues with Wayland
2. xdiagnose could explain why it doesn't work on Wayland
3. Otherwise, it would be nice if xdiagnose wouldn't show up in the Activities
Overview when Wayland is running but that's more complicated. (Maybe
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP could be expanded to add Wayland as a string and
xdiagnose.desktop could add NotShowIn=Wayland)

** Affects: xdiagnose (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1573755] Re: Compose and dead keys stopped working with XIM after upgrade to 16.04

2016-08-24 Thread Otto Piscus
I am in the same situation as Rudiger, with the compose key working in
Terminal and Dash but not anywhere else I can find. System upgraded to
16.04. All fixes listed above attempted, with no improvement.

Not sure if this helps, but I also had a strange behaviour in terminal
for a while where the operation of the compose key appeared to be
reversed. ie. I would press ' then e and get é without having first
pressed compose. If I first pressed compose then I would get 'e. The
compose key still did nothing in libreoffice, firefox etc. This has now
stopped, but not sure which operation made it change.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1562219] Re: xinit will not work as non-root.

2016-08-24 Thread kloszard
I don't know if it is real workaround but if you want to avoid running X
as root you can

1. Go to one of tty1-tty6 and login as a normal user
2. run the server in the same tty you logged in, e.g. for tty6:

xinit /usr/bin/openbox -- :1 vt6

Tested on ubuntu mate 16.04.

I found a workarround for a HP 14-ac116ng (Intel Graphics) by accident:

Open the Menu with Strg + ESC or with the invisible mouse cursor. Enter
something into search and then, while the menu is still open, drag the
cursor from the upper left corner over the menu. It will reappear.

But are there any settings that I can configure to optimize my graphics?
Like usually on Windows you'd have an Intel panel where you could change
different settings, is there also one on Ubuntu?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1430888] Re: DRI_PRIME with radeon/intel windows do not draw

2016-08-24 Thread munbi
Don't know if it can help, but enabling DRI3 solves the problem for me.
Just added this to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf :

Section "Device"
Identifier  "Card0"
Driver  "Intel"
Option  "DRI" "3"
EndSection

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1616364] [NEW] DRI_PRIME GPU offloading not working on AMD APU + AMD GPU laptop with ubuntu 16.04

2016-08-24 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Public bug reported:

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04
Codename:   xenial
Kernel: 4.4
Fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04.1 Point Release

##Hardware:
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
Mullins [Radeon R3 Graphics] (rev 45) → AMD APU A4-7210 with R3 integrated
graphics "MULLINS"
01:00.0 Display controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Sun XT
[Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M / R5 M330] (rev ff) → AMD R5 M330 dedicated GPU
"HAINAN"

##What works:
As system boots, only R3 integrated graphics is used by Ubuntu (as it should,
all ok):
 *  glxinfo | grep render
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD MULLINS (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.8.0)
 * lspci | grep VGA
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
Mullins [Radeon R3 Graphics] (rev 45)
 * sudo lshw -c display
  *-display
   description: VGA compatible controller
   product: Mullins [Radeon R3 Graphics]
   vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
   physical id: 1
   bus info: pci@:00:01.0
   version: 45
   width: 64 bits
   clock: 33MHz
   capabilities: pm pciexpress msi vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom
   configuration: driver=radeon latency=0
   resources: irq:39 memory:e000-efff memory:f000-f07f
ioport:3000(size=256) memory:f110-f113 memory:f0d0-f0d1

##What doesn't work
With DRI_PRIME=1, I should be able to launch applications with the dedicated
GPU (R5 M330). However, every time I try, the OS hangs and returns to the
lightdm login screen.

This is what I did:
1. xrandr --listproviders
 Providers: number : 3
 Provider 0: id: 0x73 cap: 0x9, Source Output, Sink Offload crtcs: 2 outputs: 2
associated
 providers: 2 name:MULLINS @ pci::00:01.0
 Provider 1: id: 0x3f cap: 0x6, Sink Output, Source Offload crtcs: 0 outputs: 0
associated
 providers: 2 name:HAINAN @ pci::01:00.0
 Provider 2: id: 0x3f cap: 0x6, Sink Output, Source Offload crtcs: 0 outputs: 0
associated
 providers: 2 name:HAINAN @ pci::01:00.0
2. xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink  0x3f 0x73
3. sudo apt install mesa-utils
4. DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears
5. then, the system hangs with a black screen and returns to the login screen

I've tried with DRI_PRIME=1 supertuxkart/redeclipse/other 3D
applications, but the result is always the same.

I've also tried to install a different DE with different compositing
window managers: XFCE+xfwm and XFCE+compton. However, if I try to use
DRI_PRIME=1 the result is always the same.

No problems when using DRI_PRIME=0 (mullins integrated graphics),
therefore the initial configuration should be ok.

It seems not related to compiz, but to something regarding the graphics
stack (radeon? mesa?)

As of now, I can't use my dedicated GPU.
