[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1617507] Re: je ne sais rien

2016-08-26 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1617471] [NEW] Can't login after lock screen (black screen)

2016-08-26 Thread brunolabs
Public bug reported:

After locking screen and as a result the monitor going into sleep mode, I can't
get the login screen anymore, the monitor stays in sleep mode forever.
In previous Ubuntu versions after pressing any key or the mouse, the login
screen showed up, but not anymore. I have to restart the computer.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568233] Re: BOINC doesn't recognize AMD/ATI GPU in 16.04 despite sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client restart

2016-08-26 Thread John Bridgman
In this case Steve is trying to run an app (BOINC) which requires the
proprietary OpenCL userspace driver, either from the old fglrx stack or
the new amdgpu hybrid stack.

In the short term (until we extend amdgpu hybrid support back to SI)
going back to a 14.04 LTS version would be best... in terms of still-
supported-for-a-long-time versions that do not have 16.04 kernel/gfx
would that be 14.04.1 ?

2016-08-26 Thread Alberto Salvia Novella
@ Steve Hawker

We are sorry you are experiencing those issues. On the other hand take
into account the context of this bug is very specific, and libre drivers
will work better in nearly any situation.

In fact I own a Radeon HD5870 and I have been using libre drivers much
before proprietary ones were deprecated, because of their advantages.
Modern cards even have better support than that.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 349943] Re: Screen blinks randomly on external monitor

2016-08-26 Thread Redfred Garett
The screen blanks after BIOS, flickers a few times, and then plymouth
dies, leaving the system in an inconsistent state. You may or may not
see the Plymouth boot splash graphics.

Problem: Black screen after resume:-

Typical scenario is "use a laptop docked with lid closed, only the
external screen is active, suspend, take the laptop, open it
somewhere"... which leads to "no screen active".

To debug this problem, check if gnome-settings-daemons is getting a
signal that the display configuration has changed, by running xtrace
against it, and look for a RRScreenChangeNotify event when resuming the
machine. If that signal is being sent, then it indicates a possible bug
in g-s-d. Otherwise, it suggests a bug in either X or (more likely) the
kernel which is not causing the signal to be emitted to begin with.

Problem: Lockup When Closing Lid with Intel Graphics

There is a long known issue with the -intel driver where pipe A/B mixups
can cause hangs at the point where the lid is closed. The good news is
that it is easily quirkable. In general this is most often seen with
newer hardware, because older hardware either has already gotten a quirk
or doesn't need one.
