[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1176335] Re: Xorg freeze
David MAURER, as per https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/870AG54.html #down-bios an update to your computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is available (17.20). When you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate how does this improve the situation? For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. Also, you don't have to create a new report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible: 1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an apport-collect): sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 2) Please make a comment specifically advising on how this improves the situation. 3) Please mark this report Status New. If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your help. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-17.20 precise ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1176335 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1176335/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1168767] Re: KWin crashes during logout of KDE session
Nightfall, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade && sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open a terminal, navigate to your /var/crash directory and file your report with: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. By default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker . However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one would need to open the following file via a terminal: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and file the crash report via: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/FILENAME.crash Where FILENAME is the actual name of the file found in the folder. However, this report is being closed since the process outlined above will deal with this issue more efficiently. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your help. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1600576] [NEW] Screen rolling/rotating horizontally when using specific applications
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Sometimes the following graphics glitch is triggered where the screen starts moving/rotating rapidly. See https://i.imgur.com/u6j5auo.gif (gedit on LXDE). This is triggered semi-randomly while using specific apps like Kate, gEdit, gVim, leafpad, embedded console inside Dolphin, KDevelop and rarely with Konsole. Also triggered for a few split-seconds when I move the mouse when in fullscreen mode in VLC but stabilises quickly. However, everything is stable when I just use Chrome or Firefox, LXTerminal, Clementine and Code::Blocks, even for hours. Whenever this is triggered, it can sometimes be fixed when I switch to desktop or Chrome or a different app while closing the trigger-er app while other times, rebooting is the only way. Sometimes (rarely) the screen becomes completely black after a while, with key-presses and mouse movements revealing the screen for split-seconds which allows me to properly shutdown/restart the laptop. I've tried to Google the problem with no results, I'm not even sure what to search for. And I apologize if this isn't the correct place to report. I've already tried a couple of places with no replies or help whatsoever. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1618423] Re: Modesetting driver cannot handle different display resolutions for two monitors
Rocko, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please keep in mind the following: 1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder). 2) The release names are irrelevant. 3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was released upstream. 4) Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may: 1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there. 2) Backup, or clone the primary install. If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is the release candidate number if it exists. If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically requested to do so. It is most helpful that after testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, you mark this report Status Confirmed. Lastly, to keep this issue relevant to upstream, please continue to test the latest mainline kernel as it becomes available. Thank you for your help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1618423 Title: Modesetting driver cannot handle different display resolutions for two monitors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1618423/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1610591] Re: Video acceleration regression for Radeon Xpress 200M (r300) in xorg-lts-xenial & xorg-lts-wily
Tested; fullscreen YouTube playback *somewhat* improved by a notch, but it takes about 5 seconds to begin playing smoothly at 360p. When going back to windowed/embedded playback, framerate plummets. Same with other video sources. Xorg 7.5.0-1 still stands out undefeated. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1615864] Re: Screen resolution not saved after reboot or logout and back in
GeeMac, to clarify, if you uninstall the nvidia proprietary driver is this still reproducible? ** Description changed: - Hello, - - I am having an issue with my screen resolution of 1920x1080. I am using a Vizio 42 inch TV which worked fine with the HDMI connection from the computer to the TV. Every time I boot the computer up I have to go into terminal and type " xrandr -s 1920x1080 " - One of the first things I did was go to the System Settings > Software & Updates > Additional Drivers and then select Nividia 304.131 (proprietary, tested). I do this since when Nouveau was first introduced, it never worked with my graphics chipset which is a Nividia 7050. Yes, the chipset is old but worked fine until 16.04. - - I spent the weekend trying all suggestions that I could find via the search engines along with the help of a few folks on the #ubuntu IRC. Three days later, still no luck and still having to type the xrandr line in the terminal. - I even tried adding the xrandr line in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf, That was a disaster at bootup. luckily I was able to get to the terminal and Nano edit the file and reboot. - - In addition, probably unrelated to this issue, I have also noticed when running any streaming video, now it is almost like watching a slide show. Nothing has changed Internet connection or hardware since the install of 16.04. Even typing this is lagged by 1 to 3 seconds per character typed. Same issue in Firefox or Chrome. But sorry, I digress. This can be looked at in another post, forum or possible bug. - The main issue is that Ubuntu 16.04 does not save and or reads the saved settings of 1920x1080 with out the later use via the terminal using xrandr. I did take notice that when booting into the main desktop the mouse pointer is small as if in 1920x1080 but then changes to a larger pointer then the resolution is then 1280x720 which seems to what 16.04 falls back to. + The issue is that Ubuntu 16.04 does not save or read the saved screen + resolution settings of 1920x1080 from my Vizio 42 inch TV HDMI connected + to my computer. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1618423] Re: Modesetting driver cannot handle different display resolutions for two monitors
No, the issue didn't occur in Xenial, which defaults to the intel driver. (The intel driver doesn't have these issues.) Just to be clear - it is possible that the issue is resolved with the later BIOS, but I won't know until I can test the known bad configuration again. (Unfortunately, I can't use the later BIOS full- time thanks to the brightness issue.) In general, the modesetting driver works fine (and it doesn't tear on the external display when scrolling, unlike the intel driver, which is nice). Modesetting does struggle a bit when changing resolutions, and X slows down for a while after the resolution changes. It usually speeds back up within say 10 seconds, but sometimes the slowdown persists.

The patch by philmanjaro works for me too by following instructions by Alexandre ACEBEDO (aacebedo) from 2016-01-25, on a braswell system (N3150 - Zbox CI323) One thing though, I still have an issue if the TV is turned off when the PC is booted initially, xrandr will give me the proper info and tell me the screen is connected once I power it on, but xfce will still show it as Disabled (by connecting with x11vnc), I'm not sure if it's related or not xrandr -auto sometimes fixes it but not always I sometimes have to reboot the system with the TV powered on for it to start working again -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308105 Title: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/1308105/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1585329] Re: Sometimes a black rectangle appears briefly under the mouse cursor
Bruno Nova, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Bruno Nova, to clarify, if you remove the nvidia proprietary driver, is this still reproducible? ** Description changed: I'm on 16.04, using a laptop with Nvidia Optimus (Nvidia driver installed, Intel card selected). The problem also occurs in a guest session. It didn't occur in 14.04. Sometimes I see a black rectangle appear for a very brief moment (a flash). Horizontally, the rectangle occupies the whole screen. Vertically, the rectangle seems to start in the mouse cursor and ends in the bottom of the screen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1615864] Re: Screen resolution not saved after reboot or logout and back in
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu xenial ** Description changed: Hello, I am having an issue with my screen resolution of 1920x1080. I am using a Vizio 42 inch TV which worked fine with the HDMI connection from the computer to the TV. Every time I boot the computer up I have to go into terminal and type " xrandr -s 1920x1080 " One of the first things I did was go to the System Settings > Software & Updates > Additional Drivers and then select Nividia 304.131 (proprietary, tested). I do this since when Nouveau was first introduced, it never worked with my graphics chipset which is a Nividia 7050. Yes, the chipset is old but worked fine until 16.04. I spent the weekend trying all suggestions that I could find via the search engines along with the help of a few folks on the #ubuntu IRC. Three days later, still no luck and still having to type the xrandr line in the terminal. I even tried adding the xrandr line in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf, That was a disaster at bootup. luckily I was able to get to the terminal and Nano edit the file and reboot. In addition, probably unrelated to this issue, I have also noticed when running any streaming video, now it is almost like watching a slide show. Nothing has changed Internet connection or hardware since the install of 16.04. Even typing this is lagged by 1 to 3 seconds per character typed. Same issue in Firefox or Chrome. But sorry, I digress. This can be looked at in another post, forum or possible bug. The main issue is that Ubuntu 16.04 does not save and or reads the saved settings of 1920x1080 with out the later use via the terminal using xrandr. I did take notice that when booting into the main desktop the mouse pointer is small as if in 1920x1080 but then changes to a larger pointer then the resolution is then 1280x720 which seems to what 16.04 falls back to. The TV reports the proper information under xrandr. gee@HTPC:~$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 4096 x 4096 VGA-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) TV-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-0 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 980mm x 580mm 1280x720 60.00 + 59.94 1920x1080 59.9459.94* 60.0560.0050.04 720x576 50.0050.08 720x480 59.94 640x480 59.93 gee@HTPC:~$ uname-a Linux HTPC 4.4.0-34-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 27 16:06:39 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux This will be the only information I will post this way since it was quite short. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1619706] [NEW] outdated opencl header cl2.hpp
Public bug reported: Compared to Trusty, Xenial comes with OpenCL 2.0 support and ships /usr/include/CL/cl2.hpp instead of /usr/include/CL/cl.hpp, because they are incompatible as described here: http://github.khronos.org/OpenCL-CLHPP/index.html#compatibility In order to build old code, the Khronos documentation suggest to set some defines: #define CL_HPP_MINIMUM_OPENCL_VERSION 120 #define CL_HPP_ENABLE_SIZE_T_COMPATIBILITY #define CL_HPP_ENABLE_PROGRAM_CONSTRUCTION_FROM_ARRAY_COMPATIBILITY which solve some issues with cl::size_t vs std::size_t. However, some issues remain due to usage of size_t without namespace prefix. However updating cl2.hpp to the latest version (https://github.com/KhronosGroup/OpenCL-CLHPP) resolved the issue for me. Could you please consider to update cl2.hpp in the package? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1618423] Re: Modesetting driver cannot handle different display resolutions for two monitors
The output of those commands are: 1.2.13 and 08/08/2016. I can't test the same configuration that I originally tested for another week, but on another 1680x1050 monitor it did work, eventually. I had to restart lightdm several times because things happened like the mouse click no longer working, once when I changed the resolution it flipped everything sideways, and the mouse started moving extraordinarily slowly and the desktop was unusable. My issue is that there's a more severe bug with the brightness control after resume in the newer BIOS and its predecessor, so I can't use it (see http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/os- applications/f/4613/p/19985875/20927410#20927410). Dell's official response is that they are aware of it, but they clearly aren't fixing it since they have released a second BIOS with the same bug. If it's purely a BIOS issue, why does the modeset driver have this screen resolution problem and not the intel driver?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1619556] [NEW] Video Stacking/Scaling issue on DELL OptiPlex 7440 AIO ( Intel Core i5-6500 Skylake )
Public bug reported: [Description] During video playback a very disturbing bug occurs: the video area is always on top every other window. The video also won't scale when changing the size of the player window. This is not player-specific as both SMPlayer and VLC are affected. The bug doesn't register on screenshots so I had to take a photo of the screen to illustrate: https://ubuntu- mate.community/uploads/default/original/2X/c/ceba93ba6a7025cba79779bd92288cab92e09f3c.jpg ouroumov@Bloc:~/Desktop$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS Release:16.04 ouroumov@Bloc:~/Desktop$ apt-cache policy xorg xserver-xorg-video-intel xorg: Installed: 1:7.7+13ubuntu3 Candidate: 1:7.7+13ubuntu3 Version table: *** 1:7.7+13ubuntu3 500 500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status xserver-xorg-video-intel: Installed: 2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1.1 Candidate: 2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1.1 Version table: *** 2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1.1 500 500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1 500 500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages ouroumov@Bloc:~/Desktop$ inxi -MCSG System:Host: Bloc Kernel: 4.4.0-36-generic x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: MATE 1.12.1 Distro: Ubuntu 16.04 xenial Machine: System: Dell product: OptiPlex 7440 AIO Mobo: Dell model: 0X2MKR v: A00 Bios: Dell v: 1.4.7 date: 03/15/2016 CPU: Quad core Intel Core i5-6500 (-MCP-) cache: 6144 KB clock speeds: max: 3600 MHz 1: 1239 MHz 2: 1929 MHz 3: 1974 MHz 4: 1398 MHz Graphics: Card: Intel Sky Lake Integrated Graphics Display Server: X.Org 1.18.3 drivers: intel (unloaded: fbdev, vesa) Resolution: 1920x1080@60.00hz GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel HD Graphics 530 (Skylake GT2) GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 11.2.0 Definitively related bug reports: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94559 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1305369 Temporary workaround found in that redhat bug report to enable proper video playback in SMPlayer (Point #6 of Eric Lavarde's steps to reproduce): - Open SMPlayer, go to Options -> Preferences - Go to "Advanced", then to the "Options for MPlayer/mpv" tab - add -vo gl to the (empty) option list ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: xorg-server (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1619556 Title: Video Stacking/Scaling issue on DELL OptiPlex 7440 AIO ( Intel Core i5-6500 Skylake ) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1619556/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
