[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1626288] [NEW] X fonts and widgets disappear after suspend/resume cycle
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1434351 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1434351 Public bug reported: not all the time, but at some suspend/resume operations fonts disapear from gnome terminal, nm-applet and soffice which then show spaces and underscore placeholders instead of characters. google chrome, thunderbird, firefox, virtualbox are not affected. As it happens not at each suspend resume I find it hard to diagnose what is going wrong. next time I will launch more apps to see wich ones are affected. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1626098] [NEW] Wrong screen capturing and flickering when using gnome-screenshot or kazam on Dell XPS 13 9350
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS Release:16.04 version: Ubuntu 4.4.0-38.57-generic 4.4.19 gnome-screenshot: Installed: 3.18.0-1ubuntu2 Candidate: 3.18.0-1ubuntu2 Version table: *** 3.18.0-1ubuntu2 500 500 http://gr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status kazam: Installed: 1.4.5-2 Candidate: 1.4.5-2 Version table: *** 1.4.5-2 500 500 http://gr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://gr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status When using the gnome-screenshot to capture screen, an irrelevant area of the screen is captured. It could be the login background or 'cached' screen area from windows that have been opened and closed a long time ago, instead of the real area captured with the cursor selector. This will might not be a gnome-screenshot at all, and more probably an intel hd graphics driver issue, since using any alternative packages for screenshoting or screencasting will end in same result. Another strange thing is that on cold boots, everything is working properly for a while, but after some time, and after screen locks, the capturing tools will again start to misbehave. Here are some screencasts captured with kazam, exposing a similar issue: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gy03ue6jpgjzezq/Screencast%202016-09-05%2013%3A18%3A48.mp4?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/s0vrvota5f77i7j/Screencast%202016-09-20%2018%3A46%3A33.mp4?dl=0 --- ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: iskitsas 1840 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=1dad753e-ff16-40f8-8c73-34c875ff211f InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-08-27 (25 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160719) Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0c45:670c Microdia Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04f3:20d0 Elan Microelectronics Corp. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1625350] Re: High CPU usage of /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg
Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I don't completely understand what you mean with the following: > Of course if some non trusted packages has also been installed, then goto ubuntu archive. For the moment I have purged xserver-xorg-video-intel without reinstalling it (since I've seen that it is optional). I cannot yet verify with certainty whether this solves the issue because I haven't found a way to reproduce it in a deterministic way. That said, after uninstalling xserver-xorg-video-intel, my virtual terminals are visible again (which I hadn't mentioned in the original post because I hadn't thought that this issue might be related). I will keep this configuration until I either run into the original issue again or you advice me to install the package again. Can you test the latest driver in git?... What model is your motherboard? bug #1554004 fixed problem in other chips VX900, P4M400 ... Instructions to install latest driver: In order to download OpenChrome master branch code, you need to have Git installed. $ sudo apt-get install git Also, the dependent packages for OpenChrome need to be installed as well. $ sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-openchrome Please note that, at least in Ubuntu, the package for OpenChrome is called xserver-xorg-video-openchrome, not xf86-video-openchrome. Now clone the OpenChrome repository to your local computer storage device. $ git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/openchrome/xf86-video- openchrome After you finished cloning the OpenChrome repository, enter the resulting directory. $ cd xf86-video-openchrome 2) Compiling OpenChrome (debug build) Before you can compile the code, the compilation and other scripts need to be generated. $ ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr --enable-debug --enable-xv-debug --enable- viaregtool "--enable-viaregtool" instructs "make" to generate via_regs_dump under xf86-video-openchrome/tools. If there were no errors, OpenChrome can now be compiled. $ make If OpenChrome compiles without errors, you are now ready to install OpenChrome. Install OpenChrome. $ sudo make install Credits: https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/openchrome- users/2016-February/007237.html -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1577573 Title: segmentation fault during X startup 16.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/+bug/1577573/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
