[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1583538] Re: [desktop] Error creating OpenGL context using Java

2016-10-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That sounds like bug 1602561. However that one did not exist when this
was logged, and also doesn't exist now.

I believe Xmir is always reporting at least one display mode now. Please
run 'xrandr' to verify.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1556459] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad W530] Regression: cannot set up 3 display configuration any more (Optimus)

2016-10-09 Thread Paul Ortyl
Hi Christopher,

I am sorry for the delay, seems like I did not read my email for over
two weeks...

I have just tested with "Ubuntu 16.10 "Yakkety Yak" - Alpha amd64
(20161008)". No changes and exactly the same dialogs as described in
the original report.

I have also updated the desktop to 16.10 (alpha), no improvement either.

Let me know how how can I help further. This regression is really
annoying... I have to go through grub and BIOS settings each time I am
taking the notebook off the docking station.

As a workaround I had to disable optimus in BIOS. That also requires putting
the following line into /etc/default/grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="thinkpad-acpi.brightness_enable=1
acpi_backlight=vendor"
Otherwise the machine hangs at boot in kernel. These kernel parameters need to
be removed each time I switch BIOS to internal graphics in order to get
reasonable battery life.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1631748] [NEW] ubuntu-bug selects wrong category

2016-10-09 Thread ralphb
Public bug reported:

The ubuntu-bug tool always assumes an xorg bug when I select "other".

For example, selecting "other problem" on the first screen and then "I
don't know" will create an xorg bug report, even though I want to report
another problem (e.g. grub).

The selection in the first screen apparently is not honored, which makes
reporting bugs (including bugs about ubuntu-bug) quite difficult.

(Also, the launchpad package search dialog reports an "OOPS-xxx" error.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1631746] [NEW] grub accepts only one key press in total

2016-10-09 Thread ralphb
Public bug reported:

When grub start, I can press exactly one key, then all other key presses
are ignored. I cannot tell if grub crashes or not.

This one keypress could be RETURN, then normal boot continues. It could
be ARROW DOWN, then the second line in the grub menu is selected.

But from then on, all further key presses are ignored, be they RETURN,
ARROW UP/DOWN, even CTRL+ALT+DEL.

This breaks the selection of MEMTEST and other grub entries but the
first.

Note that I'm using a regular USB keyboard.

The bug can not be reproduced on 16.10.
Indeed I tried a simple test such as

On 16.10, the video is NOT always on top.
On 16.04, the video is always on top.

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.
