[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1562219] Re: Unprivileged xinit wont start in unallocated vt

2016-11-23 Thread Ubfan
Comment 14 works with Nvidia when using the nouveau driver, but not the Nvidia
driver 367.57 (black screen). Starting an xterm allows you to run other
things, even unity.
Using the nouveau driver, login to vt2 and run:
xinit /usr/bin/xterm -- :1 vt2
Result is a white background xterm, fully functional when cursor is over it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1643789] Re: Backport packages for 16.04.2 lts-hwe stack

2016-11-23 Thread Martin Pitt
How can we ensure that this does not break existing 16.04 installs (with
or without HWE)? Please add a test plan that covers at least the most
widespread hardware (Intel, Nvidia, fglrx, free/proprietary drivers) and
an overview of the regression potential based on the changes in the new
libdrm version.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1643843] Re: Distorted colours after suspend / resume cycle

2016-11-23 Thread Jan-Marek Glogowski
So I applied this "big hammer" solution of the patch to the Trusty
(14.04) Xenial HWE kernel (4.4.0-47.68~14.04.1) and this fixes the bug.
I'll give it some more testing, while bisecting v4.0 to v4.1.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1562219] Re: Unprivileged xinit wont start in unallocated vt

2016-11-23 Thread Ubfan
Ubuntu 16.04, Nvidia Quadro 1000m, #14 allow the X server to run, applications
may be launched (xterm, then xclock) and they appear in ps, keyboard input to
the xterm works, but the display is totally black. No errors are in the
~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.1.log file (a failure does show:
xf86EnableIOPorts: failed to set IOPL for I/O (Operation not permitted)
but that appears in the working :0 display log also. Running as root has same
result, black display on the vt. There may be several issues here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1644271] Re: became slow

2016-11-23 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also change the bug title to something more meaningful.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1644007] Re: Intel HD Graphics 5500 Drivers Cap Resolution at 1366x768 and don't support video out for external displays

2016-11-23 Thread taras
Thanks for the catch Daniel; updated the description. It was the new
laptop with the Intel HD Graphics 5500 integrated card that resolution
was capped and video out wasn't working.

The old laptop has a Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller for which the
drivers work just fine. Amusingly, after putting the SSD back into the old one;
the HDMI port started working again. Maybe the slight jiggling from
reassembling the case fixed a connection to the port? I had tried multiple
cables, monitors and adapters previously, so the port was definitely dead prior.

Anyway, now that I'm back in the old laptop, I won't be able to test/reproduce
this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1644234] Re: Compile Fail : error: unknown type name 'PCITAG'

2016-11-23 Thread Jason Crockett
Stupidly my kernel headers package was not downloaded. PCITAG has a
kernel library feel. (im a python dev) installing the headers.. which i
should do anyway if im rolling my own debs.

UPDATE: this experiment failed. the headers did not allow me to compile
this module. see below for kernel log.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1644086] Re: lots of errors

2016-11-23 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also change the title of the bug to something more meaningful.

Thanks!
