[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1653323] [NEW] Severe screen flicker on Unity when terminal maximized
Public bug reported: The screen experiences severe flicker when using Nvidia 375.26 on a GTX 1070 in 16.10, Unity Desktop -- but only when the terminal is in the top left of the screen or maximized, and is full of text. I made a video illustrating the problem: http://damonlynch.net/share /Ubuntu1610screen-flicker.mp4 Driver is from the "graphics-drivers" PPA. At this point I don't know if it's a hardware problem or software problem -- I've never seen anything like it before. I've ruled out the DisplayPort cable as a problem, because it exhibits the same problem with two different cables. The LCD is a Dell UP3017. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1640456] Re: Switching to USB sound device stops USB mouse clicks from registering #2
jth: >"Hi It's not invalid so it should be set Fix Committed" Here on Launchpad, that's not how it works. Specifically, this isn't Fix Committed, as you already advised the issue is resolved for you in 17.04. "until it's released and as Fix Released to indicate the version as probably 17.04." Whether or not a version of Ubuntu is development/stable/LTS, or speculating to probabilities has no bearing here. "If it is set to invalid it would not show up on searches that is critical to find and workaround the issue" The Status has no impact on searchability on a publicly available resource. One can search via Google, Launchpad itself, etc. and find this report regardless. >"and that the fix is on its way." Feature and bug fix backports, security fixes, etc. are performed as a matter of due course in Ubuntu development, irrespective of if anyone asks for one. >"I do not need it to be backported since there is an easy workaround. But it needs to be tracked so the workaround can be found until it is released correctly. You need to decide if it is worth to do the backport." Backporting because you need it is not my decision. It's yours. >"I will help you to verify if you decide to to release it in a backport. The issue will make affected system unusable so if you ask me if it is worth a backport I would say yes since most users will not be able to workaround the issue by themselves as you and I can." To advise, operating on speculation isn't how backports are determined. Despite this, since you don't need a backport, this bug report is being closed due to your last comment https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1640456/comments/3 regarding this being fixed with an update. For future reference you can manage the status of your own bugs by clicking on the current status in the yellow line and then choosing a new status in the revealed drop down box. You can learn more about bug statuses at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status. Thank you again for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Jacob Doherty, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. 1) To see if this is already resolved, could you please test http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results? 2) To clarify, does the following provide a WORKAROUND: sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video-intel sudo rm /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf (for those who created this file before) reboot 3) Does using UXA instead of SNA provide a WORKAROUND? 4) Did this issue not occur in a previous release of Ubuntu, or Chromium/Chrome? 5) Could you please provide the full computer model as noted on the sticker of the computer itself (not from the Bug Description, or the result of a terminal command)? 6) If you undo all of the non-default kernel parameters you are using, does this influence this issue? ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Description changed: - This is additional debug information as requested for this bug: - - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- - intel/+bug/1586539 - - - Ubuntu 16.04.1 (xenial) - Chrome 55.0.2883.87 - Kernel: 3.10.18 - - X.Org X Server 1.18.4 - xorg-server 2:1.18.4-0ubuntu0.2 - Current version of pixman: 0.33.6 + Chromium and Chrome 55.0.2883.87 flickering. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1640456] Re: Switching to USB sound device stops USB mouse clicks from registering #2
Hi It's not invalid so it should be set Fix Committed until it's released and as Fix Released to indicate the version as probably 17.04. If it is set to invalid it would not show up on searches that is critical to find and workaround the issue and that the fix is on its way. I do not need it to be backported since there is an easy workaround. But it needs to be tracked so the workaround can be found until it is released correctly. You need to decide if it is worth to do the backport. I will help you to verify if you decide to to release it in a backport. The issue will make affected system unusable so if you ask me if it is worth a backport I would say yes since most users will not be able to workaround the issue by themselves as you and I can. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1640456 Title: Switching to USB sound device stops USB mouse clicks from registering #2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1640456/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner
PS: I realized I needed to point out corrections to my previous post about my Dell XPS 15 which is running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, as follows: (1) touchpad mouse pointer randomly jumps to the bottom left corner, which frustratingly can result in the trash application opening up since one might be trying to click an application, and at least having to move the mouse pointer back to where you need it. (this is not related to touchscreen. this is touchpad issue) (2) text typing ... too often the position jumps backwards several characters so you wind up typing in the middle of your sentence, and sometimes jumps elsewhere in the text field. Just typing this, it jumped once or twice as I said. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574667 Title: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1574667/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner
I have been experiencing the identical problem on my new Dell XPS 15 touchscreen laptop running Ubuntu 16.04 fully patched. Two problems actually: (1) touchpad mouse pointer randomly jumps to the bottom left corner, which frustratingly can result in the trash application opening up, and at least having to reset the mouse pinter back to where you need it. (2) mouse pointer too often also jumps backwards several characters so you wind up typing in the middle of your sentence. Both of the above problems become frustrating enough that you want to throw the laptop across the room, LOL. It happened to me like 3-4 times just typing this. Windows is also on this computer and has no such issues. Ubuntu, this has really got to be fixed.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1653259] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.10 Full screen freeze appears to be a continuation of bug 1561795
Public bug reported: The system freezes on full screen e.g. when playing videos, viewing Power Point presentations but especially when xscreensaver activates. Music still plays in the background (where applicable), the mouse cursor moves but has no effect, cannot click anywhere. If I reboot via ctrl+alt+f1 the system reboots and continues to function normally until a full screen activity triggers the same response. The problem does not occur at every activation of full screen, but appears to be triggered consistently by xscreensaver. The possibility of a hardware problem should be eliminated by the fact that I have transferred the ssd containing the problematic OS to a newer desktop machine where the exact same symptoms are being experienced as in the previous desktop.
