[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1656155] Re: System (keyboard & touchpad) freezes

2017-02-23 Thread Jeffry R. Fisher
You got some error in the boot log about an unknown stepping function,
right? Then an older, faulty version of the Intel driver loaded in its
place?

Go back to doing a fresh install of 16.10. Make sure you allow 3rd-party
and choose the Intel microcode when offered (and have a working network
connection to download and install updates during the install process).

Verify kernel 4.6+ (should be 4.8), and look at the boot log after
installing (the error about stepping should be gone).

Good luck.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1639517] Re: [HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g164ng] black screen when booting

2017-02-23 Thread FFab
Christopher M. Penalver, re backlight cycle.

Booting, grub config: no workaround, "quiet splash", reboot - I note
following cycle:

Grub menu - gray backlight (brightness same as grub menu background) -
then a flash (white), not covering the whole screen - black( 0%
brigthness, lasting 6 sec) - gray like before.

cold start:

grub-menu - gray - flash (white), not covering the whole screen -a cycle
of 16 times: black and gray - the last gray

note:
runnig Ubuntu, brightness cannot be changed
running Windows10, no brightness problem.
