Dropped priority. Now we understand this problem, it's just going to be a series of workarounds in Mir, and Chris suggested another good one in the hangout today that might also fix it for radeon and nouveau (bug 1211700). Plus we have some workarounds proven already in comment #20. Long term we need a proper fix in the driver, so it's a Mesa bug. The solution it seems is for Unity8 to have an Xmir -rootless started and ready at login to support legacy X apps (that are not pure GTK). The log shows Firefox is being run natively under Unity 8 (no Xmir). Firefox is known to not be built natively for Mir, so it's not a surprise that it it not start. Confirmed both the delay and unity8 crash. Sorry, I forget how to look up the URL of the crash report my system just sent. The same delay bug occurs in Mir demo servers - 30 seconds between right clicking and a menu appearing. Might be dbus-related, although the default dbus timeout is 25 seconds. On a couple of occasions I also found the right clicking in GTK apps would crash mir_proving_server. That's logged as bug 1668466.
