Does your system have a touchscreen?
Does it have the same stuttering issue under heavy graphics load?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655782] Re: [FFe] Elfdalian layout + merge with Debian 2.19-1

2017-03-22 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Iain: The nature of the changes between 2.17 and 2.19 can be viewed
here:

https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xkeyboard-config/log/

And the complete diff is in the PPA:

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/306582771/xkeyboard-
config_2.17-1ubuntu1_2.19-1ubuntu1~ppa2.diff.gz

It's to a large extent additional layouts/variants, and such changes
don't at all affect the commonly used layouts for the big countries.
There are also a few specific bug fixes. Please note that we are talking
about data (the binary package xkb-data).

xkeyboard-config 2.19 is in Stretch. FWIW I have used it myself for a
couple of months. :) I'd say that the regression risk is very low.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1533675] Re: Screen issue with Java applications

2017-03-22 Thread Qianqian Fang
I have similar issues with Xubuntu 14.04 LTS with HWE (kernel 4.4.0-66)
and Intel Graphics (Skylake i7-6700k with HD 530 GPU).

In my below screen capture, I show a matlab window started on a remote
machine via "ssh -Y" (left), and the same matlab started on the local
machine (right).

You can see the left window show blank text in various places. The file
icons for the two files (initval.txt and wazu2...) on the file explorer
panel also show white stripes (I've seen this on various context).

This seems to happen only with Intel graphics, although I am not sure.

** Attachment added: "Left matlab: start via ssh and port forwarding; right
matlab: start on local machine"

2017-03-22 Thread Iain Lane
I don't know what the regression potential of new xkeyboard-config
releases is... can you give a bit more detail? What's in the release and
how safe is it?

Assuming it is, I think it should be okay in principle. I didn't look at
this particular proposed package from a sponsorship POV to know if it is
right.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1672033] Re: Xorg does not detect displays in rootless mode on nvidia proprietary drivers (GNOME)

2017-03-22 Thread Igor
Hm, this makes sense.

Maybe, after xorg/nvidia driver detects monitors as root (calling "sudo
startx" from the console, has the same effect as running lightdm) they
are cached somewhere, or maybe Xorg/nvidia driver changes permissions,
so rootless Xorg cann then detect monitors in following sessions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1675024] [NEW] nouveau fails with orange screen with Quadro M2000 (Maxwell) in 16.04.2

2017-03-22 Thread Henri Sivonen
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
 1) Use a computer with an Nvidia Quadro M2000 GPU. (I used Lenovo ThinkStation
P710 with Lenovo-bundled Quadro M2000.)
 2) Boot from Ubuntu 16.04.2 x86_64 live desktop / install USB stick.
 3) Choose try Ubuntu before installing from the boot scroon.

Actual results:
The screen goes orange and then no visible changes take place.

Expected results:
Expected to start Unity using nouveau-provided OpenGL functionality.

Additional info:
The 16.04.1 install media results in Unity starting up, but with OpenGL
functionality (as reported by Unity and by Firefox) coming from llvmpipe on the
CPU and not from nouveau on the GPU.

With 17.04 install media, the screen goes black instead of orange.

** Summary changed:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1675006] [NEW] Upgrading from 14.04 to 16.04 produces a display with way too much black

2017-03-22 Thread AlainKnaff
Public bug reported:

1.) alain@alain-pc:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Release:16.04

2.) alain@alain-pc:~$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau:
  Installed: 1:1.0.12-1build2
  Candidate: 1:1.0.12-1build2
  Version table:
 *** 1:1.0.12-1build2 500
500 http://be.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3.) What you expected to happen
A nice and colorful display of my KDE desktop, where I can actually recognize
the features (panel, command entry widget, etc.) rather than have to grasp for
them in the dark.

4.) What happened instead
After a do-release-upgrade going from 14.04 to 16.04
Entire desktop is composed of black or very dark grey items, which can almost
not be seen (but present, as the elements do react when clicked upon)

After uninstalling xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (and all packages that
depend on it), dpkg --purge, and then re-installing it, everything was
nice and colorful.

Took a non-trivial amount of googling to find this solution though (...
after many non-solutions)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1663555] Re: Repeated suspend and splash screen freeze after upgrading to 16.04

Do the newer driver versions depend on nvidia-persistenced? That might
explain this, since the root partition is not yet mounted.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1672033] Re: Xorg does not detect displays in rootless mode on nvidia proprietary drivers (GNOME)

2017-03-22 Thread Tim

afair that would mean the Xorg/nvidia driver no longer has access to GPU
once NVIDIA is trying to load/detect monitors, however strangely its
also showing up in your other "working" log.

It might be worth filing an upstream bug against gdm.
