I haven't committed it yet since I'm really not sure if this method is
valid or if there is a bug.

After a client connects to the X socket and Xmir is started with the fd
returned from accept(), the client just hangs.  I got a backtrace of the

Can confirm that nouveau.noaccel=1 solved the lockup in my desktop with
"GeForce 6150SE nForce 430". But if you need some graphical effects or
things like that, forget! You'll have an system 'not bricked', but
really ugly.

I'm not using Ubuntu anymore, but last year (with another distro) I give
nouveau a try and the same problem that I used to have in fresh Ubuntu
install 4 years back showed.

This glitch in nouveau is very annoying. NVIDIA proprietary driver
(304xx-lts) don't have a good performance with glx (i.e. if you have
compton and some little desktop effects, the delay is huge). Same
machine, same NVIDIA driver, but this time with Windows: the desktop
don't have such a poor performance.

Nothing is perfect... I have to buy a new computer anyway. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm using the Xenial. With an openchrome 1:0.3.3+git20160310-1 version
the problem persists.

In addition to activating an I2CDevices ativa option in xorg.conf
(section device) to fix the system hang / freeze problem, black screen,
monitor seems to shut down, when trying to start the GUI.

However, I just upgraded to a version of PPA
https://launchpad.net/~dylan.a/+archive/ubuntu/xxv-openchrome

The problem of resolution persists.

But solved another problem of freeze / black screen, no longer having to
configure xorg.conf.

probably, btw.. did something change in the way the apps are launched?
so after a reboot i've launched gnome chess from launcher, the app
started (without Xmir) and worked great. but then i closed the app and
the second time it tried to launch with Xmir but failed to load. (not
sure why it tried to launch with Xmir the next times, i also did not
changed anything in .desktop file)

This bug appears with several variations on a theme on several sites.

The most common workaround of adding nouveau.nofbaccel=1 to
/etc/default/grub as a kernel command line didn't work for me.

However

nouveau.noaccel=1

Has resulted in a stable PC for the last 24 hours which is a 3 year
record!

nouveau with Nvidia graphics cards.  24 hours stable.

I was wrong. What I was reproducing is a different crash with large FDs
not specific to Xmir.

I'm really not sure how to reproduce your crash or if your use case is
valid.

Only one theory: the logic for the -fd client connection is executed
early before Xmir has started properly. We can try moving it to a lower
location after the server has actually initialized.
