[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1577074] Re: [HP Pavilion 15] Intermittent black screens
I just checked on Phoronix, AMD's DC stack has not been accepted for kernel 4.13 - so very unlikely to make it into Ubuntu 17.10. Maybe AMD steps on it they get it into kernel 4.14 at the earliest. The basic (overly simplistic) problem is how it's coded and would make it a total nightmare for the kernel dev's to maintain. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1577074 Title: [HP Pavilion 15] Intermittent black screens To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu/+bug/1577074/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1577074] Re: [HP Pavilion 15] Intermittent black screens
Whoa, hold up - it *may not* be. The kernel main line developers have rejected the code for various reasons. Untill it's acepted mainline, it's not a part of the kernel. Read the readme on the github site. AMD has to make changes to DC (formerly known as DAL) to be accepted. So anyone using the kernel I pointed out is just beta testers for the time being. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1698233] Re: New libepoxy0 causes hang at boot
I removed the libepoxy0 package holds, added the LocutusOfBorg repository, and did an apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade. However my system still hung on reboot. If I did something wrong please let me know. Also the problem only occurs with AMDGPU-PRO, I should have been clear about that. Unfortunately I can't use the open source mesa though because I need OpenGL 4.5 compatibility mode and mesa doesn't support anything over 3.3. The developers say they don't have the resources to implement it, so anyone using Ubuntu who needs it will always have to use AMDGPU-PRO. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libepoxy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1698233 Title: New libepoxy0 causes hang at boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libepoxy/+bug/1698233/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1577074] Re: [HP Pavilion 15] Intermittent black screens
Good news everyone! I have been trying the kernel with amd-staging provided by nukedathlonman and it totally works! The system boots up to a completely functional environment at full-resolution. I've also tried Team Fortress 2 and Rocket League and it's pretty damn close to Windows performance, so you can pretty much ditch Windows away now if you want to. I'm so happy! I've been testing with Ubuntu GNOME 17.04 on a HP Pavilion 17-g133cl notebook. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1698233] Re: New libepoxy0 causes hang at boot
@Timo: No, it only hangs with amdgpu-pro. I initially tried changing to amdgpu and the issue went away. I also tried the current amdgpu-pro 17.10, which also fixed this issue. Unfortunately both drivers don't work as they should on my system, so installing them isn't a long-term solution for me. But yeah, the problem is definitely related to the amdgpu-pro drivers in version 16.40 (me) and 16.50 (Robert). @LocutusOfBorg: I tried your ppa and could upgrade to libepoxy 1.3.1-1ubuntu1 without observing the black screen on boot.

Used installation basis for 4.12-rc6: ubuntu 16.04.2, kernel4.8.0-36, no updates Test results differ from rc1: no "boot finished" sound, no remote login (ssh). Reboot/shutdown by SysRQ keys after about 3 minutes possible. Upstream kernels were installed on an updated Ubuntu installation. For comparison I installed rc5 on an Ubuntu installation, which was updated 8 weeks ago (2017-04-17) . The test result was just like that of rc1 ("boot finished" sound after 45 sec.). ** Tags removed: kernel-bug-exists-upstream-4.12-rc5 ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream-4.12-rc6 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1639517 Title: [HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g164ng] black screen when booting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1639517/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
