[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1665850] Re: Screen corruption after unblank with HWE stack

2017-11-01 Thread Andrei Borzenkov
Update: recently one of programs I use started to complain that screen
was not DRI3 capable. I am using Intel driver which apparently defaults
to DRI2. I forced it to DRI3 using

Option "DRI" "3"

After that I immediately got tearing during video and the same strange
corruption of screen (fast blinking). As modesetting driver defaults to
DRI3 it appears the issue is not Intel vs. modeseting but rather DRI2
vs. DRI3.

Googling around suggests that this may be this upstream bug:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97957

If there is Ubuntu package for 16.04 that includes above commit I would
be more than happy to test it.

2017-11-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes let's keep the double cursor issue in bug 1724977.

This bug should be about the incorrect screen orientation after hitting
the Super (Windows) key.

** Summary changed:

- 17.10 - Second monitor in portrait mode causes graphical issue
+ Activities Overview on a rotated screen displays with wrong orientation
(unrotated)

** Package changed: wayland (Ubuntu) => gnome-shell (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 785681] Re: Unable to unblank screen, cursor still present

2017-11-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Sergio Callegari, while the original reporter wasn't using either
Kubuntu, or a nvidia graphics card, given how old this report is, it is
likely you are experiencing a completely different problem with a
different root cause.

Hence, it will help immensely if you use the computer the problem is
reproducible with, file a new report with Ubuntu by first ensuring the package
xdiagnose is installed, click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging
information after running the following from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1729394] [NEW] 17.10 - Second monitor in portrait mode causes graphical issue

2017-11-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Having a secondary monitor in landscape mode works flawlessly in 17.10.
However, problems arise when I set a monitor to portrait mode.

One thing that happens is when I bring my mouse to the edge of the
screen, I see the cursor mirrored on the second screen.

The main issue is when I hit the windows key and try to search for an
application. The results look all scrambled and my secondary monitor is
displayed in landscape mode with all of my windows.

Look at my bug attachment to see a screenshot of what happens when I
press the windows/super key and try to search for a program.

On the left is my secondary monitor in portrait mode. When moving
Windows to that monitor, it works as it should, but when I hit the
Windows/super key to show all of my open windows, it displays in
landscape.

On the right is my main monitor in landscape mode. In that screen I was
searching for my GEdit program.

Specs:

Integrated Intel graphics card
Ubuntu 17.10

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1729377] [NEW] AMD r7 250 wrong detection

2017-11-01 Thread brad
Public bug reported:

My AMD R7 250 GPU is being wrongly detected in Ubuntu as a Radeon HD
8830M. This results in the wrong detection of drivers. The result is a
wrongly installed driver and very poor performance. This bug has been
affecting me since Ubuntu 16.10, and still affects me in Ubuntu 17.10.

brad@brad-ubuntu:~$ lspci | grep 'VGA compatible controller'
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Venus
LE [Radeon HD 8830M] (rev 87)
brad@brad-ubuntu:~$ lsmod | grep -i 'radeon'
radeon 1470464 9
i2c_algo_bit 16384 2 amdgpu,radeon
ttm94208 2 amdgpu,radeon
drm_kms_helper167936 2 amdgpu,radeon
drm 356352 9 amdgpu,radeon,ttm,drm_kms_helper
brad@brad-ubuntu:~$ lsmod | grep -i 'amdgpu'
amdgpu 2007040 0
i2c_algo_bit 16384 2 amdgpu,radeon
ttm94208 2 amdgpu,radeon
drm_kms_helper167936 2 amdgpu,radeon
drm 356352 9 amdgpu,radeon,ttm,drm_kms_helper

Ubuntu installs by autodetection: xserver-xorg-video-ati. The proper
driver is, xserver-xorg-video-radeon.

However even after proper installation of the new driver. Ubuntu still
reports that I am using a mobile graphics card, instead of a desktop
graphics card.

Ubuntu reports: llvmpipe (LLVM 5.0, 128 bits) with the radeon driver.
And CAPE VERDE with the ati driver. Its a "OLAND" or "southern island"
card.
