[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1742894] Re: Scilab does not start after some upgrades on Ubuntu Xenial

2018-03-07 Thread fabcap77
I observed the same problem also with Scilab under Ubuntu 14.04, with
the following version of libjogl2-java:

libjogl2-java/trusty,now 2.1.5-1ubuntu3 all [installed,automatic]
libjogl2-jni/trusty,now 2.1.5-1ubuntu3 amd64 [installed]

Is there a fix available for Ubuntu Trusty?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1754177] Re: [bionic] xserver / startx crashes with Composite Disabled in xorg.conf

2018-03-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
To debug this we will need an automated crash report. Please look in
/var/crash for crash files and then run:

  ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash

And then tell us here what the ID of the new bug is.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1754177] Re: [bionic] xserver / startx crashes with Composite Disabled in xorg.conf

2018-03-07 Thread Christian Niemeyer
Another interesting thing with this xserver-xorg-core is that it ignores
Option "AIGLX" "Off" in the ServerFlags section and initializes AIGLX.
This also hasn't happened before bionic.

And the crashing (see the Xorg.0.log in my previous post) seems to
happen right where normally some AIGLX initialization is logged.

Here's a Xorg.0.log with Composite *not* disabled, but trying to disable
AIGLX. Seems like it gets ignored and the crash with trying to startx
with Composite Disable happens right before the following:

[87.708] (II) AIGLX: enabled GLX_MESA_copy_sub_buffer
[87.708] (II) AIGLX: enabled GLX_ARB_create_context
[87.708] (II) AIGLX: enabled GLX_ARB_create_context_profile
[87.708] (II) AIGLX: enabled GLX_EXT_create_context_es{,2}_profile
[87.708] (II) AIGLX: enabled GLX_INTEL_swap_event
[87.708] (II) AIGLX: enabled GLX_SGI_swap_control
[87.708] (II) AIGLX: enabled GLX_EXT_framebuffer_sRGB
[87.708] (II) AIGLX: enabled GLX_ARB_fbconfig_float
[87.708] (II) AIGLX: enabled GLX_EXT_fbconfig_packed_float
[87.708] (II) AIGLX: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap backed by buffer objects
[87.708] (II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized i965

My xorg.conf:

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AIGLX" "off"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel GMA 450"
Driver "intel"
EndSection

Section "Extensions"
# Option "Composite" "0"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1753884] Re: session logout after suspend

2018-03-07 Thread Simon
Christopher, thanks for responding so quickly!

It took me a while to download the newest ISO.

I've been able to narrow it down a bit more as well: the log out only
happens if I have my second monitor plugged in. Sometimes (but not
always) the second monitor will flash the "logged out" screen for a
second or two before going dim. If I unplug the second monitor and close
the lid of my computer I log in and it's still the same session.

I have "Suspend even if external monitor is plugged in" toggled in Tweak
Tools.

1) No, my session is not logged out if I suspend via the GUI with the
lid open.

2) There are! Is it safe to upload that file? I can do so.

3) I'm fairly sure it's happened since I initially installed 16.04

4) With the live USB I don't think I can set up a user account that will
get logged out? When I close the lid of my laptop without the external
monitor plugged in there is no log in screen and I just see the desktop
(even when I toggle that the user is not logged in automatically). With
the external monitor plugged in the desktop just switches. I couldn't
find a toggle for the "Suspend even if external monitor is plugged in"
option. I'm happy to actually try upgrading my machine to 18.04 or
17.10, but that would lose you your test scenario if it ends up working?

2018-03-07 Thread Nathaniel W. Turner

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1562219] Re: Unprivileged xinit wont start in unallocated vt

2018-03-07 Thread Caleb
Update to #30 Upon further investigation
On 14.04, the files in /usr/bin are binaries.
-X is a suid wrapper binary
-Xorg is the actual binary

On 16.04, they are scripts.
-X is a link to Xorg
-Xorg is a script, calling the actual executables in /usr/lib/xorg/.

It seems the Xorg script in /usr/bin should check if the binary wrapper
"Xorg.wrap" is present in /usr/lib/xorg. If it is, act as a suid wrapper
and use /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config as it's config file(according to the
man page for Xorg.warp), otherwise exec /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg directly.

So it seems the problem is that the legacy package is not installing the
Xorg.wrap binary (perhaps in only some cases???) as many users report
editing Xwrapper.config has no effect.

Also, dpkg -S Xorg.wrap shows no matches suggesting this may be an
oversight?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1683383] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts (reopen)

2018-03-07 Thread Norbert
I attached patch from ArchLinux AUR (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages
/xorg-server-bug865/, https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree
/freedesktop-bug-865.patch?h=xorg-server-bug865 ). This patch is stable
and reliable. ArchLinux users are happy with it.

It fixes current bug on Ubuntu Bionic Beaver 18.04 LTS.
I have tested it with keyboard layout switcher on GNOME
(DESKTOP_SESSION="ubuntu") and MATE desktop (DESKTOP_SESSION="mate").

Please kindly review it and consider applying it before official final release
of 18.04 LTS.
I'm ready to test proposed packages which (I hope) you would create.
As the result Ubuntu users will be as happy as ArchLinux's users.

** Patch added: "Patch for Bionic Beaver 18.04 LTS, it fixes the problem"

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1751414 ***

I'm facing huge difficulties after this upgrade. All games I'm running
with wine stopped working. I did not test others. They start, but I
either get a black or purple window, no image. Can somebody point me the
right way to debug and solve this?

I have an AMD Radeon HD 7850 installed.

Making a basic test, it seems to perform better with software
rendering... ?!?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1562219] Re: Unprivileged xinit wont start in unallocated vt

2018-03-07 Thread Caleb
#29 does not seem to be correct, at least in my case. Installed xserver-
xorg-legacy first, and checked. No 'X' wrapper binary present. After
installing other xserver packages, this is what I have.

Output of ls -la /usr/bin | grep X
On 14.04:
-rwsr-sr-x 1 root root9532 Dec 9 2014 X
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root   root   1 Jan  3  2013 X11 -> .
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2322928 Oct 13 09:07 Xorg

On 16.04
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root   root   4 Oct 13 08:59 X -> Xorg
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root   root   1 Mar  4  2016 X11 -> .
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 274 Oct 13 08:59 Xorg

No matter what I do, including trying --force-overwrite passed to dpkg,
it installs a link to Xorg, not the suid wrapper.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1753884] Re: session logout after suspend

2018-03-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Simon, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

1) To clarify, if you keep the lid open, and suspend via the GUI, is
your session logged out after resume from suspend?

2) After the session logout, are there crash files in /var/crash?

3) Is this issue something that started to happen after an update?

4) To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results?

** Description changed:

- This is a new bug report for
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/362075
-
- I am running Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS 64-bit + gnome, the standard
- installation as downloaded from the Ubuntu website, on a Lenovo ThinkPad
- T440s.
-
When I close the lid of my laptop, my session gets logged out, where I
would expect the lock screen simply to come up.
-
- The workaround suggested in the original bug report (which was for
- kubuntu 9.04) suggests to disable the lock screen on resume option, but
- I can't find this option on 16.04.
-
- It's also not a super desirable work-around. I want to still have to log
- in if I close the lid of my laptop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1754072] [NEW] Very poor xserver-xorg-video-nouveau live bionic beta-1 session

2018-03-07 Thread Richard Elkins
Public bug reported:

QA suspend test:
* Needed 10 minutes to get to unlock prompt.
* After unlocking, 2 minutes passed before desktop was visible.

I use the nouveau driver under 16.04 on the same machine and suspend-
return performance can be measured in seconds. Of course, that is a
native build, not a live session.

Hardware:
   - Assembled 2009-04-15
   - Zotac IONITX-F-E Mini-ITX motherboard
  * CPU Intel Atom 330 (1.6GHz, dual-core)
  * NVIDIA GeForce 9400
   - RAM: 4GB DDR3
   - Graphics support auto-selected:
  * Kernel module - nvidiafb
  * Xorg video driver - nvidia-340
   - Permanent storage: SSD 60GB
   - RJ45 Ethernet: Nvidia forcedeth kernel module

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1754052] [NEW] Dell Latitude 7480 press shift keys triggers random mouseclick when `Tap to click` enabled on touchpad.

2018-03-07 Thread Peter Karlsson
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 16.04.3 and 17.10.1 holding down either shift key on a Dell
Latitude 7480 causes random mouse clicks to occur without being nowhere
near the touchpad with palms. No external mouse/keyboard connected.
Disabling `Tap to click` in `Mouse & Touchpad` settings makes the
problem go away. The problem is not present in 14.04.5, whether
installed or live CD.

How to reproduce:

1. On a Dell Latitude 7480 live boot (or install) one of the following images:
- ubuntu-16.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso
- ubuntu-17.10.1-desktop-amd64.iso

2. Open `Mouse & Touchpad` and make sure `Tap to click` is enabled.
3. Click `Test Your Settings` and make sure window has focus.
4. Hold down either shift key and after a few seconds single/double clicks
start registering.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-03-07 Thread Francois Thirioux
Quadro M1000M : works now without any tweak.

Nonetheless, if you mean "*full* support", laptop users like me will
argue the lack of a GPU switching ability and the removing of the
Wayland session.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1745816] Re: [Bionic] 1.9.4-2ubuntu1 makes touchpad jumpy on Dell Precision 7510 and HP 450 G3

2018-03-07 Thread Francois Thirioux
ok.

The issue is completely fixed running latest commits, Wayland or X. Tested only
on my Dell 7510.
I checked logs, only one error related to libinput FYI, see attachment.

it seems to wooble few seconds and after that it does no more wooble.
AFAIK it's intended, first testing if the cursor woobles ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1753954] [NEW] Intel Whiskey Lake (WHL) support

2018-03-07 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
WHL is basically CFL-U with new PCI-ID's that are needed in the kernel, libdrm,
mesa and xserver.

[Test Case]

Test the installation on a WHL machine, the graphical session should
have full acceleration after these updates.

[Regression Potential]

None, just adds PCI-ID's to existing drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1753776] Re: Graphics corruption in login animation to Xorg sessions

2018-03-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That's probably irrelevant.

intel-microcode is a firmware update for your CPU (sometimes you will
see kernel log messages telling you it's needed). But this bug occurred
without any change in the 'intel-microcode' package so I think it's
irrelevant here.
