2018-03-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Joel, that feature already exists: Use the button with the down arrow
(looks like a 'V').

Also that has nothing to do with this bug. If you have any issues then
please open a new bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1686081] Re: If -synaptics is installed, GNOME Mouse & Touchpad Settings doesn't work

2018-03-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Jeremy,

That may be due to the gdk bug mentioned in the gnome-control-center
patch. I tried working around it there but probably need to propose a
better fix to gdk (which I had started but became too busy to finish).
Although I do have an alternative gnome-control-center fix in mind (less
elegant) that would avoid the gdk bug better.

Also make sure you're running it on a machine with a touchpad :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1756204] [NEW] Poor performance

2018-03-15 Thread Robert Rojas
Public bug reported:

After an indeterminate amount of time, the refresh rate drops to about
15 fps until reboot.

The problem appeared with 17.2.x. It also happens with 17.3.3.

Initially reported with ubuntu-bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1752830. Decided to
report against mesa because of the dmesg log.

When the refresh rate drops, dmesg logs the following repeatedly:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752437] Re: [HP ENVY x360 - 15-bq102ng] Touchscreen does not work

2018-03-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Marc Rene Schädler, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

Given I'm not seeing evidence of touchscreen recognition, for now I'll
move to linux for further review.

While waiting, it is best to continually test the latest mainline kernel
(now 4.16-rc6) as it becomes released, and report back the results.

Right, so you both have Kabylake which has gen9 graphics core.. it
doesn't match with "Intel(R) Core(TM)" generation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752437] Re: [HP ENVY x360 - 15-bq102ng] Touchscreen does not work

2018-03-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Summary changed:

- Touchscreen on HP ENVY x360 15-bq102ng does not work
+ [HP ENVY x360 - 15-bq102ng] Touchscreen does not work

** Description changed:

- The touch screen on my HP ENVY x360 15-bq102ng does not work.
- Neither with the stock kernel nor with the latest mainline kernel (4.16-rc3).
-
- I am not even sure which device it is (see outputs of lsusb, lspci, and
xinput below).
- Maybe the following errors that "dmesg" reports are related?
- [0.948213] amd_gpio AMDI0030:00: Failed to get gpio IRQ: -22
- [0.948487] amd_gpio: probe of AMDI0030:00 failed with error -22
-
- If anyone has some pointers I would be willing to perform some further
- investigation.
-
- Best regards,
- Marc

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1686189] Re: External monitor connecting problem on Intel graphics card

2018-03-15 Thread mauro
quick update.

Although the VGA cable I used with the intel chipset was working fine
with other laptop/monitor telling me ihe cable is 'fine', it happen I
tried a different VGA cable and this time everything work fine.

So far I suppose it is a cable pin out problem

I'll be happy to provide more info if required

thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752145] Re: system freeze after full screen video viewing with Xorg on ultrawide monitor

2018-03-15 Thread Krister
This bug is making it hard to work...
I just had the system freeze up on me again after less than 5 minutes.
This time, when doing ctrl-alt-F3 I got the strange snow-like screen depicted
in the attachement and none of the ctrl-alt terminals or GDM (at ctrl-alt-F1)
showed anything but snow!

** Attachment added: "snowy screen after freeze and pressing ctrl-alt-F3"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752145] Re: system freeze after full screen video viewing with Xorg on ultrawide monitor

2018-03-15 Thread Krister
More symptoms:

I can kill gnome-shell with "kill -KILL" from a ctrl-alt terminal.
The GDM screen then appears as usual. Logging in again, however, seems to hang
on a blank purple screen.

The GDM screen appears normal but moving the mouse over the top-right
corner to activate the menu results in EXTREME lag. The menu is usable
but doesn't update for dozens of seconds after clicking on it.

Could this be a problem with XWayland?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1756053] [NEW] Thrown out of session into login screen with "inactivity" warning

2018-03-15 Thread Carl-Erik Kopseng
Public bug reported:

I upgraded to the 18.04 beta yesterday, which fixed all my problems with
hibernation on my DELL XPS 9350. Most other things have been fine until
ten minutes ago, when I was without warning thrown out (forcibly logged
out) of my Gnome session.

I was typing away on my keyboard in WebStorm when suddenly the screen
went blank and I was back at the GDM login screen. There was a brief
warning on screen about the system going into hibernation (or
standby/suspend - don't remember). When I logged in again, it was a
fresh new session, so all previously existing windows had been closed,
which meant I lost work.

I am not sure where to go about debugging this and providing more
information. `dmesg` seemed pretty normal.

I experienced something somewhat similar on 17.10, where I upon logging
in would create _an additional session_ (I could still see the old
processes in the process list), but this seems to be something
different.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1753776] Re: Graphics corruption (or distortion?) in login animation to Xorg sessions

2018-03-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK, this seems to be a Xorg bug in the "-background none" feature. Upstream bug
reported here:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105518

Less likely but still possible is that mutter (used on the login screen)
is corrupting the framebuffer and "Xorg -background none" is then
innocently copying the corruption.

A workaround (which at least will avoid more bug reports from users) is
to remove these two lines from gdm3:

g_ptr_array_add (arguments, "-background");
g_ptr_array_add (arguments, "none");

That will reliably replace the corruption with blackness.

Have a nice day.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1750937] Re: 4.4.0-116 Kernel update on 2/21 breaks Nvidia drivers (on 14.04 and 16.04) by an insufficient compiler!

2018-03-15 Thread Sebastien
Tomorrow, I boot my PC on 3.13.0.142 kernel.

There was lots of updates for several compiler.

Right after I reboot my PC and go to the -143 kernel. dkms remove
nvidia, dkms install nvidia.

then, modinfo nvidia| grep vermagic now shoes "retpoline".

At this point I know everything was fixed.

Reboot the PC, load -143 kernel.

It works. Finally.

Doest it mean the -143 kernel was compiled with different version of gcc
that default 14.04 gcc?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1753776] Re: Graphics corruption (or distortion?) in login animation to Xorg sessions

2018-03-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Checking my logs, 6 March was the end of a long weekend when this bug
occurred for me. So a large number of updates happened at once,
including:

  mesa 17.3.3-0ubuntu1 -> 18.0.0~rc4-1ubuntu3
  mutter 3.26.2-1build1 -> 3.27.91-1
  gnome-shell 3.26.2-0ubuntu3 -> 3.27.91-0ubuntu1
  wayland 1.14.0-1 -> 1.14.0-2

gdm3 and xorg-server remained unchanged when the regression occurred, so
at least we can exclude those.
