[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-04-30 Thread Nguyen Xuan Viet
I think there is something wrong with gdm3/wayland/NVIDIA proprietary driver.
If I config gdm3 as default display manager, when rebooted, I have a black
screen but I'm able to switch to other tty by press crtl-alt-f2 to f7.
Then I edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf uncomment line 7th to WaylandEnable=false
then rebooted, then I have system hange after reboot :(. It seems that the OS
is stuck in gdm3 service.
I tried to change/regenerate/delete xorg.conf but it simply doesn't work. So I
think xorg.conf is not the root cause for me.

If I uninstall all nvidia stubs and install nouveau xorg driver, the
system is able to boot to graphic shell with gdm3 as a display manager.
Unfortunately, the nouveau driver does not support CUDA computing
framework and the performance of this driver is very poor when compare
to the binary one.

If I config to use lightdm as default DM, it works with NVIDIA binary
driver, but this is not what I expected. I expect the system have to
work with gdm3, ubuntu-xorg session and NVIDIA proprietary driver. I
have an app that need xorg session and CUDA, so I must install NVIDIA
binary driver.

PS: If you are able to boot to graphic mode but stuck with login loop,
you could try to delete the ~/.Xauthority file then reboot. It worked
for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1731911] Re: Xwayland crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() from AbortServer() from FatalError() from xwl_read_events() from ospoll_wait()

2018-04-30 Thread Jeff Silverman
I think I'm experiencing the same problem. I installed Ubuntu 18.04
beta last Tuesday. When I power on my computer, the screen blinks 50-53
times over the span of 2-1/2 minutes (this is perfectly reproducible)
and then for the rest of the session, everything works flawlessly.
After LinuxFest Northwest, I was told to do an apt dist-upgrade and that
did not clear the problem.

I have two video cards:
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core

Unmaintained or not, it's the only driver that works correctly with my
card.

From
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/123709/en-us

Version:304.137
Release Date: 2017.9.19

2017.9.19 isn't really far away, and Seth Forshee (sforshee) has already
provided a patch months ago on bug 1737750 for it.

Please provide it in Ubuntu 18.04 again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1768128] Re: Regression: monitor connected via motherboard GPU is not initialized, but one connected to Nvidia is

2018-04-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

Back when I was using 17.10, I could keep my monitor plugged into the
HDMI port of my motherboard (AsRock Z77 Pro4-M) which is set in the BIOS
as the primary boot card and I could completely boot my system all the
way through to Xorg with everything working fine. Even Steam games
worked at performance that assures me that my Nvidia 1060 was being used
- instead of the GPU built into my motherboard. Then I upgraded to 18.10.
+ instead of the GPU built into my motherboard. Then I upgraded to 18.04.

TTY works fine on motherboard GPU, I can see boot log messages but once
I reach lightdm starting (I also tried switching to gdm3), nothing
appears on the port. When I then plug my monitor into Nvidia GPU, it
works though. Even after logging in to my xfce4 session, I still don't
have my monitor initialized when plugged into motherboard GPU.

Let me know if you need any more information.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767993] Re: X11 freezing/low resolution on N3150 intel graphics

2018-04-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Oh, I see. X starting in low resolution mode is due to your kernel
option 'nomodeset'. So don't use that. It's behaving correctly in
falling back to 1024x768.

Please remove 'nomodeset', reboot and try logging in a few times. You
may be experiencing bug 1766137.

Otherwise, please also log into the machine remotely via ssh (install
'openssh-server') and watch the problem as it happens by running:

  journalctl -f

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1768169] [NEW] touchscreen doesn't work properly after stylus detection

2018-04-30 Thread Favio D'Ercole
Public bug reported:

I have a HP Pavilion x360 convertible 15 br0xx. This laptop has a
multitouch touchscreen and an active pen/stylus.

On ubuntu 16.04, the touchscreen used with fingers and the pen/stylus
work properly. The touchscreen was identified as «ELAN0732:00 04F3:24B8»
as slave pointer and the pen as «ELAN0732:00 04F3:24B8 Pen» as slave
pointer too.

But, on ubuntu 18.04 bionic with gnome shell, the pen/stylus is
identified «ELAN0732:00 04F3:24B8 Pen» as slave keyboard instead as
slave pointer. Touchscreen work well until pen/stylus is used. At this
point, a new device «ELAN0732:00 04F3:24B8 Pen Pen (0)» is enabled. The
touchscreen stops working and the pen/styles works but with some issues.

~$ xinput --list

After disable devices id=11 and id=18, touchscreen recovers its multitouch
feature.
There is no combination enabling/disabling ids 10, 11 and 18, to get multitouch
and pen working together.

On Wayland session, I get the same behavior.

Note: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS clean installation with «minimal install option»
and no other customization.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1768146] [NEW] Fonts are fuzzy in lower than 4K resolution on my monitor

2018-04-30 Thread timuckun
Public bug reported:

if I drive my monitor at 4K the text is too small for my eyes so I tend
to run it at slightly lower 16X9 resolutions like 2560X1440. If I do
that the fonts are fuzzy. If I run at full 4K and scale it 200% the
fonts are crisp and great looking but of course the screen space is
lower.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1761261] Re: nouveau/nvidia drivers do not work with display in Bionic on Asus GL703VD Laptop

2018-04-30 Thread Luke Williams
Trackpad and Graphics work with the spth-pincntrl-fix.diff patch on the
4.17 kernel, however, the wifi card does not work, and if you close the
lid or it goes to hibernate, the system becomes unresponsive.

I removed this kernel and am working again on the 4.15.0-20 kernel with
the patch.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1768128] [NEW] Regression: monitor connected via motherboard GPU is not initialized, but one connected to Nvidia is

2018-04-30 Thread d33tah
Public bug reported:

Back when I was using 17.10, I could keep my monitor plugged into the
HDMI port of my motherboard (AsRock Z77 Pro4-M) which is set in the BIOS
as the primary boot card and I could completely boot my system all the
way through to Xorg with everything working fine. Even Steam games
worked at performance that assures me that my Nvidia 1060 was being used
instead of the GPU built into my motherboard. Then I upgraded to 18.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1761261] Re: nouveau/nvidia drivers do not work with display in Bionic on Asus GL703VD Laptop

2018-04-30 Thread Luke Williams
I tried testing with the latest RC build of the 4.17 kernel from kernel.org
(Torvald's GIT) and built the kernel following the instructions here [1].
After installing the kernel and headers, it looks like it regressed and the
display did not work (backlight) and I could not switch terminals. I was able
to reboot my laptop and switch the the previous kernel. My next test will be
with the patches and see what happens.

2018-04-30 Thread Kyle Weber
Hopeful this bug was fixed (as it improperly states above), I did a
fresh install on my machine with an Nvidia 1060. It will boot, then go
to a black screen on login, etc. I tried what people mentioned above,
but was not able to get a stable working system. I went back to 17.10
and have not had any issues since.

there is no issue with the kernel but instead the problem is somewhere
inside xorg.

### Expected behaviour
My "Contour Design RollerMouse Free 2" has a specific button for double click.
This button should with one physical click result in double click (button

This works as expected without issues in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-04-30 Thread Bernadette Addison
so, I downloaded various versions of the Linux drivers directly from
Nvidia.com website. Went thru the installation process - each time
starting over from scratch, formatting and reinstalling Ubuntu 18.04 so
I would have a "blank canvas" to work with. This process failed too.
My thinking was that perhaps the Nvidia drivers may/may not contain a
component that would not break the laptop. But this was a futile
effort.

Guess I will wait for a few more suggestions/ideas on how to get this
graphics card working once and for all.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-04-30 Thread Bernadette Addison
@omar reddam - I also have the GTX 1050 in my new dell XPS-15 laptop.
After deleting xorg.conf as recommended here, I went a step further and
performed this command to blacklist nouveau:

$ sudo bash -c "echo blacklist nouveau >
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nvidia-nouveau.conf"
$ sudo bash -c "echo options nouveau modeset=0 >>
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nvidia-nouveau.conf"

Then I updated initramfs:
$ sudo update-initramfs -u

And lastly, I installed the nvidia software package via "sudo apt
install nvidia-390" before rebooting.

BLACK SCREEN.*sigh*

Has anyone tried to download the bin files directly from nvidia.com website?
What were the results?

I think I'll go ahead and try that. Will report back my findings.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1

2018-04-30 Thread Michael von Glasow
I noticed another issue recently: when the device displays woke up after
a period of inactivity, the picture of the external (!) display was
stretched vertically by a factor of 2, with the bottom half missing. I
took a screenshot, but that looked OK and didn’t reflect what I actually
saw.

Also, with the original issue, I tried switching to a text console
(Ctrl+Alt+F1) and back to the GUI (Ctrl+Alt+F7), but the internal
display remained black and came back to life long after the main one.
Looks like switching to a text console and back to the GUI has no
effect.

Currently still on 16.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767991] Re: unable to update due to unmet dependencies

2018-04-30 Thread dino99
"unmet dependencies"

>From the terminal, what is the output error(s), if any, of:

- sudo apt-get update
- sudo apt-get upgrade

And the installed (hwe) kernel does not works as expected (see all the errors
into journalEroors.txt): so better purging it and install the 'generic' one
instead.
You can easily do this via 'synaptic' (sudo apt-get install synaptic)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767993] [NEW] X11 freezing/low resolution on N3150 intel graphics

2018-04-30 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I just installed a fresh 18.04 on an ASRock beebox N3150 machine.

The regular ubuntu desktop installer hanged after entering X11 mode,
machine froze.

I then used Lubuntu alternate installer with the console based
installation, which worked without any problem.

But after rebooting the system again hung after the graphical login
prompt.

I then changed the boot options in /etc/default/grub to give the kernel
the options nosplash nomodeset and to leave the system in console mode
(I had similar experiences with former ubuntu versions on that machine
where X11 did not start when the mode had been set by console.)

Now X11 works, but comes up in vesa mode (1024x768) only.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767991] [NEW] unable to update due to unmet dependencies

2018-04-30 Thread M S
Public bug reported:

After installing Ubuntu onto my Hp laptop there's a red dot, on the the
right-hand top bar, with a white dash stating:

"An error has occurred. Pleas run Package Manager from the right
click menu or run apt-get in a terminal to see what's wrong. The error
message was: 'Error: BrokenCount>0'. This usually means that your
installed packages have unmet dependencies."

- after trying to run Package Manager the manager is not installed and
won't install.

- after running 'apt-get' and following instructions there the
instructed commands weren't recognised.

- after searching Ubuntu forums for the issue I couldn't get any of them
to work either.

Help will be greatly appreciated in this matter.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767312] Re: [radeon] totem wrong color on h264 videos

2018-04-30 Thread Dea1993
I've opensource amdgpu driver "xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu/bionic,now 18.0.1-1
amd64 [installato]"
The problem occurs both on xorg and wayland, but on wayland i've a total black
screen, i can hear only audio.
every h264 video that i've tried has this problem.
if i remove "mesa-va-drivers" package, the problem disappear

i attach the output of "dpkg -l | grep gstreamer"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-04-30 Thread netslovdlyasnov
In my case removing xorg.conf didn't help because nvidia driver reported
"no device found", so I had to use minimal xorg.conf (from my previous
answer) to make the driver find the card (BusID "PCI:1@0:0:0")

Also I confirm that nouveau driver is buggy and hangs computer on
switching consoles.
