[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1793837] [NEW] xorg gives low resolution on HDMI port

2018-09-21 Thread Peter Jaeckel
Public bug reported:

This is a Zotac CI547 box. It has to video outputs: one HDMI and one
DisplayPort. The HDMI port appears as DP-1 in the logs, the DisplayPort
as DP-2. The hardware is Intel HD 620 and is allegedly able to run two
displays simultaneously at 4K. I have one WQHD monitor (=2560x1440) and
I get that full resolution over the DisplayPort. However, I would like
to also get that resolution over the HDMI port (in order to connect two
identical monitors), but over HDMI I only get 1024x768. Updating the
kernel to the latest 4.18.8 using UKUU made no difference.

2018-09-21 Thread jfs
Enabling bionic-proposed and trying to install nvidia-340 does not fix
the bug for me. The installation fails:

$ sudo apt-get install  nvidia-340/bionic-proposed

Reading state information... Done
Selected version '340.107-0ubuntu0.18.04.1' (Ubuntu:18.04/bionic-proposed
[amd64]) for 'nvidia-340'
You might want to run 'apt --fix-broken install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libglvnd-dev : Depends: libglvnd0 (= 1.0.0-2ubuntu2.1) but 1.0.0-2ubuntu2.2 is

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1742711] Re: Move Vulkan packages from Universe to Main

2018-09-21 Thread Timo Aaltonen
** Description changed:

+ [Availability]
+ Has been in universe since March '16
+
+ [Rationale]
+ mesa-vulkan-drivers depends on libvulkan1, and once m-v-d is added to
ubuntu-desktop Depends libvulkan1 will want to migrate
+
+ [Security]
+ No known security issues in the past
+
+ [Quality assurance]
+ - doesn't need any configuration
+ - doesn't have any debconf questions
+ - all existing bugs are or should be fixed by new packaging in NEW
+ - maintained by xorg-team on Debian, synced to Ubuntu
+ - has build-time tests
+ - debian/watch is used
+ - uses python3
+
+ [Dependencies]
+ all in main
+
+ [Standards compliance]
+ is compliant
+
+ [Maintenance]
+ maintained by xorg-team on salsa.debian.org, synced to Ubuntu
+
+ [Background information]
+ upstream split the source in four, old src:vulkan is going away and
src:vulkan-loader will be the one to be promoted once it's accepted from NEW.
+
+
+ [original description]
+
As of January 2018, the Vulkan packages (libvulkan1, libvulkan-dev,
vulkan-utils) are currently in the Universe repository instead of Main
for Ubuntu 18.04. Since the Vulkan packages are in a mature state and
with future GTK and Qt development looking to adapt Vulkan, it would be
important to have the Vulkan packages available.

This change will affect game developers the most as they will know that
Vulkan will be available to them for future development. There has been
a lot of movement in Mesa 13.3 and above with the RADV driver where it
has matched and exceeded the non-free alternatives. It is essential to
get improved Vulkan support for GNU/Linux in general as we have finally
had a great alternative to OpenGL.

If possible, the movement of mesa-vulkan-drivers out of Universe as well
would be a HUGE benefit. Especially if mesa-vulkan-drivers is installed
by default in Ubuntu 18.04 bringing in full support for Vulkan. This is
helpful especially since Ubuntu 18.04 is a long term support release.

** Summary changed:

- Move Vulkan packages from Universe to Main

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1793737] [NEW] App windows no longer auto-expand when dragged to screen-edge

2018-09-21 Thread Mugsy323
Public bug reported:

A minor cosmetic interface "bug" that may or may not be x.org related.
This is regarding the GUI (Gnome issue?) but there is no "package"
related to the GUI.

Ubuntu used to auto-resize a window from top to bottom of the screen
simply by dragging the top of the window to the to of the screen (just
as MS Windows does.)

Ubu 18.04 seems to no longer support this (or the feature is broken.)

To see what I mean, open any app (such as a terminal window) and drag
the top of the window to the top of the screen. This used to also auto-
expand the bottom of the window to the bottom of the screen, but no
longer.

This was particularly useful when viewing "Details" in the "Software
Updater". But now, after resizing the window, the progress bars do not
fill the window to match, remaining in a tiny box with empty space below
it.

Please fix or return the GUI to its previous way of working.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1785964] Re: Unable to unlock the desktop session: systemd-logind: got pause for 13:69

2018-09-21 Thread Diego Bersanetti
This bug happened to me a number of times as well, on a fresh install of
Ubuntu 18.04.1 on a Clevo W230ST (Intel Haswell, nvidia Optimus); it
never happened after a lock screen but only after a suspend/resume; the
nvidia proprietary drivers 396 are installed but not loaded, as I am
using the Intel integrated graphics; the nouveau module is blacklisted.
I attach the relevant syslog.

That is ok. It's not a regression, and it doesn't affect anything else.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1793607] Re: GPU Overheats and laptop shuts off

2018-09-21 Thread Alex Murray
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

** Information type changed from Private Security to Public
