[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1796915] Re: Volume notification popup resizes the full screen application

2018-10-09 Thread Vitaly
Daniel my problem starts by a different way (had no problems with Alt+Tab,
maybe because I play different games), but I have the same problem with the
screen, and yeah it just looks like that https://imgur.com/a/3stwv
In my case the screen restores back to normal when volume popup hides back. It
is just annoying when I change volume.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1796915] Re: Volume notification popup resizes the full screen application

2018-10-09 Thread Vitaly
** Description changed:

When I playing a game (Steam, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive), and
touch multimedia volume controls on keyboard (mute, volume up, volume
down), notification popups appears, but when popups is being showed, the
game's full screen makes a bit smaller at the same time showing Ubuntu's
panel and dock (showing their spaces, but not drawing them, just void
spaces), when notification volume popup hides back, full screen
restores. The problem shown only when volume notification popup is
  showing.

Steam game called Broforce (full screen)(this game has Unity3d engine),
when I change volume, frequently it hangs the game (just before showing
notification popup), and whole computer (music still plays), having to
- restart the PC, because I doesn't respond to Alt+f4, and sometimes
+ restart the PC, because it doesn't respond to Alt+f4, and sometimes
doesn't respond to Alt+Tab. I had hangs problems with that game in
KDE5/Plasma, but I never had problems in Xfce4.

I am reminded of https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98876, but
that is about the modesetting driver which you are not using.

You seem to be using the Intel driver and your log says:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246683] Re: Middle button does not work for scrolling in Ubuntu 13.10

2018-10-09 Thread Stephan
I was able to fix it with the comment by nschmelzle here:
https://gist.github.com/tsrivishnu/5b467f07374ce42ad6d97b6a3fdf0ea5

The problem was that the touchpad was using the synaptics driver, while the
trackpoint used libinput. The solution was to uninstall the synaptics driver:
apt remove xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

Now middle click scrolling with the trackpoint works again in Ubuntu
18.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1796928] [NEW] Fast Double-tap Treated as Single Click

2018-10-09 Thread Kevin Kleinfelter
Public bug reported:

Fast double-taps get treated as a single click.

Behavior is present in Ubuntu 18.04 (libinput 1.10.4-1) but not in 17.10
(libinput 1.8.2-1ubuntu2). Still present in 18.10 daily downloaded
2018.10.08 (libinput 1.12.0-1).

I think this is similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libinput/+bug/1762536 with
different hardware.

I'm trying to run Ubuntu 18.04 in a VMware Fusion guest on a Macbook
host. If I double-tap the trackpad fast, it gets treated as a single-
click in Ubuntu. If I double-tap slow (but not too slow) it gets
treated as a double-click. Hitting the narrow window is hard! This
makes it tough to run X in a VM on a Macbook.

I suspect that the host hardware+software delivers a synthesized double-
click to the guest, and that the time between the clicks is very small.

evemu-record shows two "VirtualPS/2 VMware Virtual Mouse" devices and a
"VMware VMware Virtual USB Mouse". Capture of the first of these is
attached. It looks to me like the second tap comes 8 ms after the
first, and I'm betting that is treated as bounce.

Bug report also created at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108306

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1796915] Re: Volume notification popup resizes the full screen application

2018-10-09 Thread Vitaly
** Description changed:

When I playing a game (Steam, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive), and
touch multimedia volume controls on keyboard (mute, volume up, volume
down), notification popups appears, but when popups is being showed, the
game's full screen makes a bit smaller at the same time showing Ubuntu's
panel and dock (showing their spaces, but not drawing them, just void
spaces), when notification volume popup hides back, full screen
restores. The problem shown only when volume notification popup is
  showing.

+ Steam game called Broforce (full screen), when I change volume,
+ frequently it hangs the game (just before showing notification popup),
+ and whole computer (music still plays), having to restart the PC,
+ because I doesn't respond to Alt+f4, and sometimes doesn't respond to

What is the fringe case here?

The desktop team have tested on a variety of different hardware and we can
reproduce this issue every time. I think this is a significant issue for
desktop users and will affect anyone trying to run Cosmic in Virtualbox on
Ubuntu.

We know from the Ubuntu Report data that a significant percentage of
users run in Virtualbox, so we need this to work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1796822] Re: Desktop live cd boots corrupted screen in Virtualbox on Bionic

2018-10-09 Thread Timo Aaltonen
After installation vboxvideo is loaded much earlier (no rootfs to
unpack) and getting userspace up and running takes a few seconds, so
once X is started the native driver is ready and everything works as it
should.

On the live-session though, the xserver realizes a new device has
arrived and loads modesetting on it (with VESA already loaded) and we
get this mess. While this is a bug in the X stack, getting it fixed
properly before release is unlikely, because it's a fringe case no-one
else is seeing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1796822] [NEW] Desktop live cd boots corrupted screen in Virtualbox on Bionic

2018-10-09 Thread Will Cooke
Public bug reported:

On a Bionic host running the standard archive version of Virtualbox and
the daily ISO of Cosmic, the live session starts with a corrupted
graphical display, as can be seen here:

Switching VTs to 2 and back to 1 clears the display and things work
again.
