[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1823583] Re: Xorg freeze ( also Nvidia freeze (tested) )

2019-04-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Next time a freeze happens, restart the system and then run this command
to collect the log from the previous (frozen) boot:

  journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and then send us the file 'prevboot.txt'.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1823583] [NEW] Xorg freeze ( also Nvidia freeze (tested) )

2019-04-07 Thread Hasan
Public bug reported:

Hi, I have been using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS for 6 years without problem and I
decided to renew my operating system to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with fresh
install 5 months ago.

When I started to use ubuntu 18.04 LTS, I encountered some desktop
freezes randomly. While it was happening, I can heart that my laptop's
fan noise was incredibly increasing abnormally at that moment.

So I have decided to change my driver from X.org Server to Nvidia
(recommended). When I switch my driver from open source graphic driver
to proprietary graphic driver, I hoped that the problem might be solved.
But after a week, the problem occured again. After that in the same day
the same freezes occur continuosly as much as 3 or 4 times. I don't know
why it happens. The only thing I know is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS was using
Unity Desktop, and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is using GNOME Desktop anymore.

I tried to alt + f2 and r command to refresh gnome desktop. Also ctrl +
alt + f3 for instance, and typing gnome-shell --replace & disown to
refresh gnome dektop. They sometimes works, but only if I notice early
that the freezes coming. If I miss that moment, the screen completely
freezes and neither cursor click nor keyboard input works

What should I do?

1) &
2)

My system info:
=
Description: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
Release: 18.04
Ubuntu Software: 3.28.1
=

3)

I shouldn't have had to restart my system again, again and again due to
desktop freezes. While it happens, session cannot be rescued. It damages
my personal / work data on the RAM at that moment. I mean I encountered
data loss a lot of times on the gedit or the web browser mostly, while
writing or doing something. I was expecting this issue was reported
someone in the internet since 5 months. Because of this, I didn't deal
with it. But I guess so this is not common issue. Because, there is no
patch for it. I am looking details of system update when it has come
each time, but no patch there until this now.

Added a xorg-server task, because I recall that needed rebuilding with
EGLStreams support enabled in Xwayland. Maybe that's the only problem
here?

** Also affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu)

Nvidia-418 installed but apps are using LLVMpipe/Mesa in Wayland
