[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1870726] [NEW] Ubuntu Login Screen Loop

2020-04-03 Thread Rajkumar S
Public bug reported:

* Ubuntu Focal Fossa 20.04 (dev)
* xorg:
  Installed: 1:7.7+19ubuntu14
  Candidate: 1:7.7+19ubuntu1

Expected : Show desktop after login
Happened : On login screen, when password is entered correctly, it gets into a
loop and shows the login screen again. But, it takes me to desktop properly if
Ubuntu on Wayland is selected.

Steps to reproduce :
1) Install Ubuntu 20 on an Oracle VirtualBox
2) Start a live session
3) Click the install button (Entire disk, Apply updates automatic)
4) After reboot, try to login.

No problem!

When I change wallpapers the issue appears goes away but on reboot or
switching back the issue persists. it appears to not affect other
applications such as Firefox even when in full screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1870725] Re: artifacts appearing on gnome shell

2020-04-03 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

If you change wallpapers, does the issue still occur? Does it occur if
you have windows fullscreen (eg. if firefox is your open window and
maximized so it covers your wallpaper, do you see the artifacts?) or are
they visible only on your wallpaper?

How are you? Hope you're fine.

I saw it's already release kernel v5.6

Should I try with this kernel?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1870637] [NEW] 20.04beta: Cannot set 3840x2160

2020-04-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When i do get it to work, on reboot it'll be back to fullhd.
this happens on nvidia 440, 435 and 390.

On X.Org X server it does work.

Graphics card: nVidia GT1030
Amp: Onkyo TX-NR646

On 19.10 there are no problems.
A couple of weeks ago i tested a daily build and there were no troubles also,
so this is new.

My favourite setting: 3840x2160 200% 60hz.

Fresh install with proprietary driver’s installation check box ticked
worked fine till I rebooted again and then I could not get into the
desktop. All drivers installed fine but one reboot later things were
back to being unable to login. So I did a chroot and removed splash from
grub command line followed by update grub and I Am back in business

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1870524] [NEW] fallback to SW cursor on GPU hotplug

2020-04-03 Thread Aleksander Miera
Public bug reported:

I guess the title is pretty much self-explanatory.
The issue has been discovered while connecting EVDI-backed device
(https://github.com/DisplayLink/evdi) with a running Xorg session and led to
filing of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1870512
However, fixing the issue with SW cursor is only a partial solution in that
case, as sticking to SW cursor can potentially hinder performance.

I am aware of this (dix/dispatch.c):
update_desktop_dimensions();

/*
 * We cannot register the Screen PRIVATE_CURSOR key if cursors are already
 * created, because dix/privates.c does not have relocation code for
 * PRIVATE_CURSOR. Once this is fixed the if() can be removed and we can
 * register the Screen PRIVATE_CURSOR key unconditionally.
 */
if (!dixPrivatesCreated(PRIVATE_CURSOR))
dixRegisterScreenPrivateKey(&cursorScreenDevPriv, pScreen,
PRIVATE_CURSOR, 0);

return i;
}

as well as several other similar places in Xorg's code. Question is: how big
effort would it be to actually fix this?
Should this be reported/consulted with the upstream directly maybe?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1870512] [NEW] forced software cursor with PageFlip enabled triggers artifacts on screen

2020-04-03 Thread Aleksander Miera
Public bug reported:

The following Xorg configuration triggers faulty behaviour, like
blinking cursor, corrupt graphics around it etc.:

  1 Section "Device"
  2   Identifier "graphicsdriver"
  3   Driver  "modesetting"
  4   Option "SWCursor" "true"
  5   #Option "PageFlip" "off"
  6   #Option "AccelMethod" "none"
  7 EndSection

Either switching SWCursor to false or uncommenting line 5 or 6 makes the issue
disappear.
Disabling accelleration is naturally the least recommended way of resolving the
issue.
As far as I've analyzed Xorg's source code shipped with 20.04, I can see that
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/0aaac8d783e78c040a70a55ba8d67809abd7e625
which should probably automatically handle the issue (haven't tried to build
with those changes yet) is not included. If it ever should be in (as it looks
like a workaround only), reamains an open question.

I am not entirely sure which package to attach this bug to, Xorg seems
the most viable at the moment. My reason for the uncertainty originates
from the fact, that I have also tested other distros, e.g. SuSE
tumbleweed (build from this week, exact versions to be added if needed)
with KDE plasma, which happens to reproduce the bug only with OpenGL set
as compositor's backend; XRender operates perfectly fine there; hence it
is a bit unclear to me which compoment is the "owning interface" and
which one is actually buggy, be it Xorg, mesa or compositor; please
reassign the bug accordingly if needed.

My plan for the nearest future is to verify whether the aforementioned
change actually circumvents the issue. If anything else should be looked
at to fix the problem, I am open for suggestions.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1772588] Re: Remove obsolete X11 drivers from the archive

2020-04-03 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
As I have previously commented, the geode driver is NOT obsolete. It
should not be removed at Debian, where i386 is still 686 without PAE.

Please ammend the Debian bug report accordingly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1772588] Re: Remove obsolete X11 drivers from the archive

2020-04-03 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Bug filed on Debian. It's missing some from our list:

kbd/mouse still needed by hurd/kfreebsd

and xwiimote is not maintained by XSF, and same applies to mtrack which
was accidentally included on the list. Both are essentially abandoned by
the maintainer too, and I've poked him about these.

Anyway, we can drop these as well.
