[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1871997] [NEW] The primary display will cause black screen when external 4K monitor is configured to flipped

2020-04-09 Thread Woodrow Shen
Public bug reported:

The primary (built-in) display will cause black screen when external 4K
monitor is configured to flipped

Steps to reproduce:
1. plug 4K monitor via HDMI
2. open gnome-control-center
3. select Displays -> Orientation -> Landscape (flipped)
4. apply
5. black screen on built-in displays

The primary display can be recovered if HDMI cable is re-plugged again.

2020-04-09 Thread Mario Limonciello
Can you check if you have intel-vbtn or intel-hid driver loaded? I would
think intel-vbtn.

Whichever it is a good experiment with the above comment is to blacklist
the module, rebuild initramfs and reboot. See if this helps.

If it does then it's likely a situation of this driver starting in wrong
state.

2020-04-09 Thread Jerrod Seger
Booting with acpi=off fixes this, so I am thinking a workaround could be
to ignore the tablet ACPI events ex "video/tabletmode TBLT 008A
". Not sure if it is possible to selectively disable ACPI event
handling just yet though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1822394] Re: [Dell BIOSes dated 27 Mar 2019, XPS 9575, Precision 5530 2-in-1] laptop keyboard & touchpad not working at gdm screen after boot

2020-04-09 Thread Jerrod Seger
Running into this issue on XPS 9575 with Ubuntu 18.04. My solution so
far is to flip the screen into tablet mode then back into laptop mode to
get the keyboard working.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1871916] [NEW] Navi gpu falls back to vesa/radeon/fbdev/etc drivers instead of amdgpu

2020-04-09 Thread Tuomas Heino
Public bug reported:

Installed (upgraded 16->18->20 beta) ubuntu appears to utilize incorrect
x.org drivers for RX 5500 XT. Those drivers appear to be missing
features like multi-monitor support. On the other hand live-usb of 20.04
beta did manage to utilize all 3 connected monitors (before crashing),
so the issue may also be related to upgrading process (used do-release-
upgrade since update-managed does not scale down to 800x600 fallback
which 18.04 used with unsupported hardware).

Yes, this report is in need of some triaging, unless it happens to be a
clear duplicate of another bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1871873] [NEW] Xorg becomes unresponsive occasionally when system is under heavy load.

2020-04-09 Thread Daniel McFeeters
Public bug reported:

It seems that (almost daily) my system will "freeze" requiring a hard
power-off. I presume the problem is in the X server, as it simply stops
responding to keyboard / mouse inputs. It seems to happen when the
system is under heavy load.

I found these lines in the X log, which may be relevant to the issue:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1745345] Re: Xorg assert failure: Xorg: /usr/include/xorg/privates.h:122: dixGetPrivateAddr: Assertion `key->initialized' failed.

2020-04-09 Thread Norbert
For me the main question is - how installation of `gstreamer1.0-vaapi` leads to
crash?
And why purging of `gstreamer1.0-vaapi` helps to avoid the crash.

@Daniel van Vugt (vanvugt) did you tried to reproduce this crash?

Maybe upstream bug

appropriate here, but still refer to bug
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/issues/244 for the general
problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1860754] Re: ASUS T100HAN boots to a blank screen with a cursor [i965: Failed to submit batchbuffer: Input/output error]

2020-04-09 Thread Hans de Goede
Well the "[drm:intel_dsi_vbt_gpio_init [i915]] *ERROR* Failed to own
gpio for panel control" error is gone.

I just noticed you describe the problem as "blank screen with a cursor"
, I should have noticed this before. I assume with a cursor you mean a
mouse cursor (and not a Linux text console cursor. So you are likely
hitting the issue I mentioned before where we hit a GPU freeze and
indeed looking closer at the logs that is exactly what is going on:

Apr 09 08:34:55 SrLungACI kernel: i915 :00:02.0: GPU HANG: ecode
8:1:85db, in Xorg [938]
Apr 09 08:34:55 SrLungACI kernel: GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the
entire gfx stack, including userspace.

I have checked and there already is an upstream bug report for this:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/1605

To which I have added some details about the times when I hit this + a
link to this bug.

What might be helpful is if you can configure ssh on your machine, then
ssh in while it hangs (that should still work) and do:

sudo cp /sys/class/drm/card0/error i915-crash-dump

And then attach both the dmesg output from that boot as well as the
i915-crash-dump file to the upstream bug report:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/1605

2020-04-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Looks like we might need to split this into multiple bugs somehow,
because the same assertion has kept failing over the years and multiple
fixes have already been applied:

Fixed in 1.20.7:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/commit/cfc5e5040c934

Fixed in 1.20.1:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1745345] Re: Xorg assert failure: Xorg: /usr/include/xorg/privates.h:122: dixGetPrivateAddr: Assertion `key->initialized' failed.

2020-04-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It looks like there are two possible upstreams for this bug:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/issues/615
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/issues/781

** Bug watch added: gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/issues #615
   https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/issues/615

** Bug watch added: gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/issues #781
   https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/issues/781

** No longer affects: gstreamer-vaapi (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Medium => High

** Tags added: champagne rls-ff-incoming

** Description changed:

+ Xorg assert failure: Xorg: /usr/include/xorg/privates.h:122:
+ dixGetPrivateAddr: Assertion `key->initialized' failed.
+
+ This actually seems to happen most frequently in VirtualBox.
+
+ WORKAROUND:
+
+ Select "Ubuntu on Wayland" from the login screen before logging in.
+
+ ---

It happened after upgrade to bionic, in the first login, after logon screen.
Instead of opening the desktop area, gave the error. I had to do hard reset
to be able to use X.
After hard reset showed the same error but after a while it entered desktop.
