[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1901694] [NEW] No hardware aceleration
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Computer HP EliteBook 8460p. It uses hybrid graphics card. Processor Intel Core i5-2520M CPU @ 2.50GHz × 4; 2nd generation. The system only runs well with llvmpipe (LLVM 6.0, 256 bits) graphic software, AMD Caicos sometimes it's charged too, but the graphic display have problems and don't goes fine or fluid. Maybe there is no support for the processor graphics because It's a little bit old. I don't know how to install AMD proprietary drivers, It maybe solve the problem. I installed Ubuntu 20.04 LTS but don't works, It don't charge any graphic interface, only a black screen. I only uses the system in recovery mode. For that reason I returned to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS but my graphics don't have hardware acceleration, only software acceleration. When I tried to play (Super Tux Kart for example) I expected a berry poor graphic improvement, so I can't play It. Thanks for your time and attention! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1901470] Re: resolution not listed in xrandr from ASUS ROG PG278QR via HDMI
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu ** Description changed: The PG278QR monitor supports 2560x1440. After installing Ubuntu 20.4, the max resolution presented in the Settings app is 1920x1080, and this resolution is the one that it uses. Switching between the Nvidia driver or the Intel driver (laptop has low-power intel gpu too) doesn't correct the problem. Digging in deeper, based on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Resolution#Problem:__Wrong_resolutions.2C_refresh_rates.2C_or_monitor_specs Under Wrong resolutions/refresh rates/or monitor specs, step 3 is to use get-edid | parse-edid. After applying the mode that I wanted manually via xrandr --newmode and xrandr --addmode, I was able to select the max resolution of the monitor and works correctly, until reboot. I will add it to my xorg.conf next. Here is information I collected: output from xrandr after fresh boot: ~$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 3840 x 1080, maximum 32767 x 32767 eDP-1-1 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 193mm 1920x1080 60.01*+ 60.0159.9759.9659.93 1680x1050 59.9559.88 1600x1024 60.17 1400x1050 59.98 1600x900 59.9959.9459.9559.82 1280x1024 60.02 1440x900 59.89 1400x900 59.9659.88 1280x960 60.00 1440x810 60.0059.97 1368x768 59.8859.85 1360x768 59.8059.96 1280x800 59.9959.9759.8159.91 1152x864 60.00 1280x720 60.0059.9959.8659.74 1024x768 60.0460.00 960x720 60.00 928x696 60.05 896x672 60.01 1024x576 59.9559.9659.9059.82 960x600 59.9360.00 960x540 59.9659.9959.6359.82 800x600 60.0060.3256.25 840x525 60.0159.88 864x486 59.9259.57 800x512 60.17 700x525 59.98 800x450 59.9559.82 640x512 60.02 720x450 59.89 700x450 59.9659.88 640x480 60.0059.94 720x405 59.5158.99 684x384 59.8859.85 680x384 59.8059.96 640x400 59.8859.98 576x432 60.06 640x360 59.8659.8359.8459.32 512x384 60.00 512x288 60.0059.92 480x270 59.6359.82 400x300 60.3256.34 432x243 59.9259.57 320x240 60.05 360x202 59.5159.13 320x180 59.8459.32 HDMI-1-1 connected 1920x1080+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 598mm x 336mm 1920x1080 60.00* 50.0059.94 1280x720 60.0050.0059.94 1024x768 60.00 800x600 60.32 720x576 50.00 720x480 60.0059.94 640x480 60.0059.94 DP-1-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) output from get-edid | parse-edid: ~$ sudo get-edid | parse-edid This is read-edid version 3.0.2. It looks like the Nvidia driver also is not working for you... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1901563] Re: Kernel panic - Xorg tainted - i915
Your kernel log mentions: [ 618.131916] i915 :00:02.0: [drm] *ERROR* Atomic update failure on pipe B (start=36634 end=36635) time 217 us, min 1431, max 1439, scanline start 1421, end 1440 which I think can only happen in Xorg sessions. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1901561] Re: night light not working
It also looks like the BIOS is hiding the Intel GPU, which your old Xorg logs seem to suggest is required to drive the screen, and night light.
