[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1912872] Re: Freezes on boot

2021-01-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

It appears you don't have a working kernel driver for your Nvidia GPU,
and that maybe an unsupported driver was installed manually.

If you have any way of logging in then please use the 'Additional
Drivers' app to install a supported Nvidia driver on the system.

If you do not have any way of logging in then I suggest reinstalling
Ubuntu from scratch and then be careful NOT to install any drivers from
the Nvidia website. Use only the 'Additional Drivers' app to install
Nvidia drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1912898] Re: Last few kernel updates, video crashes, system freezes

2021-01-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. A few thoughts:

1. xserver-xorg-video-intel is old and not supported. Please uninstall
it to make sure you're using the newer default driver ('modesetting').

2. Your kernel log shows constant hardware errors from the 'Intel
Corporation 8 Series PCI Express Root Port 3':

[ 69.485800] pcieport :00:1c.0: AER: Corrected error received:
:00:1c.0
[ 69.485812] pcieport :00:1c.0: AER: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected,
type=Data Link Layer, (Transmitter ID)
[ 69.485817] pcieport :00:1c.0: AER: device [8086:9c14] error
status/mask=1000/2000
[ 69.485821] pcieport :00:1c.0: AER:[12] Timeout

I don't know if that's a real hardware problem or a kernel bug. So
please try some older kernels like: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v5.4.92/

3. Please check the system for non-kernel crashes using these
instructions:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1912953] Re: [nvidia] Xorg freezes after suspend

2021-01-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please check for crashes using these instructions:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

But regardless of the outcome there, this is probably an Nvidia driver

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1912953] [NEW] Xorg freezes after suspend

2021-01-24 Thread 4Z4T4R
Public bug reported:

To reproduce this bug, I click the power icon in the activity bar in the
top right of the screen and select Power Off/Logout > Suspend. The
computer will suspend. I can unsuspend within a few minutes without
error.

If I close my clamshell and leave the laptop suspended for more than a
few minutes, when I re-open the clamshell and attempt to unsuspend, the
power indicator is lit, but xorg is unresponsive. The computer remains
suspended and I am forced to hard reboot holding the power button.

Upon reboot, the computer will display various errors during bootup,
often freezing during the process and I am forced to hard reboot. I
repeat hard reboots until the computer is able to resume bootup and the
operating system comes back online.

This occurs daily, with recgularity. It did not happen like this when I
ran xfce with an ubuntu server base installation. It did not happen when
I first installed Ubuntu 20.04 from a bare metal installation.

I expected the computer to suspend and unsuspend without issues.
