[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2061257] [NEW] Many app failures under Wayland; no issues with Xorg

2024-04-13 Thread Martin D. Weinberg
Public bug reported:

Many applications seem to fail under a Wayland session that work correctly with
an Xorg session. E.g.
- The nextcloud client app fails to contact the server and functions in the app
will not launch with Wayland while they work perfectly in Xorg
- The Vivaldi browser exits with: MESA-INTEL: warning: Haswell Vulkan support
is incomplete
libva error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so init failed. It
works correctly under Xorg.
- The Slack app works correct in Xorg not in Wayland.
- The Firefox snap works fine in both.

I assume that these are related? Esp. that latter suggests to me that
there is some library problem?

I should also mention: this was an upgrade from 23.10 to 24.04 and all
of the apps worked correctly in 23.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2061245] Re: Ubuntu 24.04 - GNOME on Xorg session crashes on launch

2024-04-13 Thread Rich McAllister
I'm having the same xorg crash problem on Xubuntu 24.04 beta, see
#2061246 (dup'ed to here.) I can reproduce the problem with a Ubuntu
24.04 beta install, but there xorg always crashes, unlike the
Xubuntu/xfce4 flavor where the first login after booting fails but
trying again immediately will succeed.

There's some crash info left in Xorg.0.log, I'll attach it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2061245] [NEW] Ubuntu 24.04 - GNOME on Xorg session crashes on launch

2024-04-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I just upgraded an existing 23.10 installation to 24.04 LTS development
branch/beta.
Whereas GNOME on Xorg worked fine on 23.10, upon completed upgrade/reboot my
system defaulted to GNOME on Wayland*.
Attempting to login under Xorg caused the system to freeze and subsequently
prompted me to login again. I cannot launch GNOME on 24.04 using Xorg, only
Wayland.
Upon deleting "20-nvidia.conf", located at "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/", attempting
to launch an Xorg/X11 session greeted me with a black screen, and I was
subsequently returned to login a few seconds later.

(*The Wayland session, while functional, contained a lot of tearing,
stuttering, and a lack of animations.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2061239] [NEW] X recognises a non-existent screen

2024-04-13 Thread Yotam Benshalom
Public bug reported:

I have one monitor only. However, x11 recognises two screens, and places one of
them to the right of my real screen.
This causes several issues: I can "lose" my mouse pointer at the right hand
side of my real screen. Some apps start on the non-existent screen, and it is
hard or impossible (in case of some steam games) to pull them out to my real
screen.
Gnome settings shows the two screens, my real screen first and the non-existent
one second, but does not let me fiddle with the settings of the second one. It
seems that xrandr sees this screen too:

~$ xrandr -q
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 7680 x 2160, maximum 32767 x 32767
HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-0 connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

   3840x2160 60.00*+ 30.00
   2560x1440 59.95
   1920x1080 60.0059.94
   1600x900 60.00
   1280x1024 60.02

   1152x864 59.96
   1024x768 60.00
   800x600 60.32
   720x480 59.94
   640x480 59.9459.93
DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

DP-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
None-1-1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
   3840x2160 60.00 +

But trying to remove "None-1-1" yields an error:

~$ xrandr --output None-1-1 --off
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 7 (RRSetScreenSize)

Here is the content of /sys/class/drm, but I don't know what to make of
it.

card0card1 card1-DP-2 card1-HDMI-A-2 version
card0-Unknown-1 card1-DP-1 card1-HDMI-A-1 renderD128

I use an right-to-left environment, and maybe this is related.
