[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2061118] Re: Rendering issues in vmware with 3d on (GTK ngl backend)
OK, so I just tried this out on the same host I did my Fedora 40 testing, a Windows 11 23H2 system with Intel graphics (no NVIDIA) and VMWare Player 17. I grabbed the Ubuntu 24.04 beta desktop image - ubuntu-24.04-beta- desktop-amd64.iso - and booted it. From that environment I could reproduce the bug. I tested using "Files" (nautilus) - I ran it and it was completely messed up in much the same way as on Fedora, lots of bits of the UI just not shown at all. Then I ran an install. I guess your installs work differently from ours, they don't just dump the live environment onto the disk, because when I booted the installed system, it had mesa 24.0.5 already (verified with `dpkg -l`). And for me, the bug is indeed fixed. Now when I run Files, it renders perfectly. Ditto Text Editor (another GTK4 app). However, reading Oliver's original description again, it really doesn't sound like the same bug. I didn't observe any "black flickering artifacts" during install, and I never saw such a thing in Fedora 40 testing either. I also didn't see anything like "desktop screen is black and then locks up the whole application, cannot shutdown or interact with Player". For me, both in Ubuntu and Fedora, when a system is affected by this bug, GTK 4-based apps tend to be missing large amounts of UI elements, but the desktop shell itself is not affected at all, let alone does it lock up or become unresponsive. So, I think Oliver is seeing something else, but I don't know what. I'd recommend you get a few more folks to test and see what they see, and report the host hardware config. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2061118 Title: Rendering issues in vmware with 3d on (GTK ngl backend) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gtk/+bug/2061118/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2061118] Re: Rendering issues in vmware with 3d on (GTK ngl backend)
FWIW, I did my testing - which found this is broken for a Fedora 40 guest with mesa 24.0.4, but fixed with 24.0.5 - on a Windows 11 (23H2) host. No idea what's different for Oliver, sorry :( I guess I could try with an Ubuntu guest on my test setup, I've got a bit of spare time today.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1954762] Re: When selecting or navigating text with CTRL + LEFT ARROW or RIGHT, or even just mouse clicking within text, the cursor jumps backwards and forwards erratically
On 100% scaling it is certainly less noticeable, though the cursor sometimes appears slightly moved to the right of where it actually is. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1954762] Re: When selecting or navigating text with CTRL + LEFT ARROW or RIGHT, or even just mouse clicking within text, the cursor jumps backwards and forwards erratically
With fractional scaling at 150%, it occurs only after some time. On a fresh reboot it isn't apparent, but it gradually gets worse when manipulating text. It's as if some error accumulates with time. After a while it becomes really annoying when working with text. The cursor position is correct, but often isn't where you see it. The cursor may appear at the end of a word while you are actually editing the beginning of the word. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1954762 Title: When selecting or navigating text with CTRL + LEFT ARROW or RIGHT, or even just mouse clicking within text, the cursor jumps backwards and forwards erratically To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1954762/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1954762] Re: When selecting or navigating text with CTRL + LEFT ARROW or RIGHT, or even just mouse clicking within text, the cursor jumps backwards and forwards erratically
Have been testing at 100% and 200% scaling - so far the problem hasn't appeared at these scalings, which makes me suspect it is a problem with fractional scaling. It's a new problem, as, about a month ago, there was no such problem with the same fractional scaling - I have always preferred 150% on this system.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05
Before I grab'n'build 5.11, I'd like to know if my issue is similar. I have a lenovo ideapad 730s. The touchpad works fine for pointing, single, double and triple clicks. I have tried both the synaptics and libinput drivers. It's been a while since I was comparing them; IIRC, I'm currently running the synaptics driver as libinput didn't have scrolling/coasting working. My problem is that palm detection and pressure sensitivity do not work. This makes the laptop pretty much unusable as it is almost impossible to do any text entry without the insertion point jumping to wherever the pointer was left. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1844132] Re: FFe: Mesa 19.2.0
1) Are you confident that you'll get enough testing to find any meaningful regressions, and have enough time to fix them before release? 2) Is there an upstream point release planned by October, or does their slip mean we'll see .1 as an SRU a month post-release? I'm a tentative +1 on this anyway just for the Ice Lake and Navi support, which we'll also want for the next bionic point release, but better answers to the above would help me be sure. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1844132 Title: FFe: Mesa 19.2.0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1844132/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 619403]
(In reply to Peter Hutterer from comment #16) > Adam: I'm really hesitant to put it into libinput because I'm not sure the > problem scope is well understood (at least by me) and what the actual point > of it is. So far it's been a "would be nice" but - at least these days :) - > we require a bit more information about use-cases and precise behaviours. > > libinput provides two values for wheels: physical degrees and concrete > steps, so for most events on most mice you get a (15°, 1 step) tuple. There > is no room for acceleration there, if anything the acceleration would have > to be in the xf86-input-libinput driver. There we recently added a patch to > adjust the scroll distance based on the angle (see Bug 92772) so a wheel can > now produce smooth scrolling for XI2 clients. > > But as for any actual acceleration, someone (you? :) would have to come up > with a good plan of what the actual use-case is to solve and how to solve > it. Not necessarily with code at first but at least to get a good idea of > what's happening. And of course we'll need buy-in from the bigger desktop > environments. I've been thinking a bit about this. Let me start with this proposal (I can open a new bug if we want to continue this). Use case: - Scrolling through a long document is slow with a mouse wheel Prior work showing benefits of wheel acceleration: - macOS - Chrome OS Requirements: - Don't break anything - Require minimum changes from clients Proposal: - Mouse wheel acceleration at the libinput level, only for mouse wheels - Do no acceleration on values returned from libinput_event_pointer_get_axis_value_discrete, this keeps the promise in the API of reporting "physical mouse wheel clicks" and keeps us from needing to implement a new "get unaccelerated" API - Ensure that legacy X wheel events (pre-XI2.1) are not accelerated Open questions: - Does this cover enough clients without breaking things? Chrome and Firefox support XI2.1, so this would accelerate those programs. - Under X or XWayland, is it possible to accelerate XI2.1 events but not the legacy events? Or are the legacy events generated automatically? - Or is it ok to accelerate legacy X wheel events? emacs has scroll acceleration already, and other clients may as well. Again, I can open another bug if this seems reasonable. I don't want this to continue in a WONTFIX bug :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/619403 Title: [KDE] no option for mouse wheel acceleration To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/619403/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1802573] Re: Thinkpad x220 - Unable to use 2560x1440 external display connected via DisplayPort due flashing black screen
I can't even get into the login screen when the DisplayPort device is attached. But I disconnected that, got to gdm login via the VGA device, then switched to Ubuntu on Wayland. Ubuntu on Wayland works fine for me generally, but I get the same behavior when connecting the DisplayPort device after logging in. I'm having trouble finding a way to switch Ubuntu 18.10 to Wayland. I have Xwayland installed but don't see a way to switch the session. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1802573] [NEW] Thinkpad x220 - Unable to use 2560x1440 external display connected via DisplayPort due flashing black screen
Public bug reported: I have a fresh install of 18.10 on an old Thinkpad x220. Everything works fine with the internal display or an external Dell G2410 (1920x1080) connected via VGA. But when I try to switch to an external BenQ PD2710QC (2560x1440) I only see the screen for a few seconds at a time and then it flashes to black. This happens consistently for minutes --it never "settles down". I've tried the default configuration as well as copying xorg.conf from /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-video-intel into /etc/x11. I've tried both xorg configurations with nomodeset in the bootloader and without. I have not been able to find any configuration that allows this external DisplayPort display to work. The same hardware combination works fine in Windows 10. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1761593] Re: Uninstall left nouveau blacklisted
This is very much a bug in nvidia-graphics-drivers-340. One can debate if software-properties should or shouldn't purge (though traditionally, the argument was that silent frontends shouldn't purge because the user hasn't explicitly asked for that), but if a removed package's unpurged conffiles cause the system to misbehave, that package needs to be rethought to avoid that situation. ** Package changed: nvidia-settings (Ubuntu) => nvidia-graphics- drivers-340 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-340 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1761593 Title: Uninstall left nouveau blacklisted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-340/+bug/1761593/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
