It seems the problem was due to mdm not exiting Plymouth. I do not think this bug is related to hybrid graphics at all. I'm experiencing this on an Intel 915GM laptop, without any nvidia card. And on a Pentium M, llvmpipe is really slow. Ubuntu can't fix this, nvidia should do that. In Natty the 96 package never got updated post-release even when nvidia released compatible driver. PLEASE do update the Precise package whenever a compatible driver turns up. Also the Precise 173 driver is outdated. 173.14.31 has been released by nvidia.
