ok this one is invalid. i had a stupid hack applied because someone
claimed that setting nomodeset would fix suspend/resume. This probably
was the problem. after dropping my boot cmdline tweaks everything is now
fine :).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 423694] Re: session active, not inhibited, screen idle message

2009-09-05 Thread Alexander Sack
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 397839 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/397839

The tray icon was to inform the user that the problem is due to xorg.
this is not a gpm bug. it has been fixed in gpm.

Right. But as of now it does a pretty bad job of informing the user
about that.

I am a technical guy and had absolutely no clue that this was caused by
my regular screen flickering bug. I couldn't click on it and it took
precious space from my desktop. Also it talked about scary things and
didn't allow me to get more information. The URL was too long to
remember or type, so I didn't bother. Even if it was, I don't think that
displaying a mail thread url is the right way to educate end-users about
problems - especially if there is no workaround etc.

IMO, we shouldn't display it at all and should ensure that it does not
happen for other issues :). If there are ways to make it more useful
that would be fine too of course. But for this particular bug I don't
see how it can be use for the user.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 402178] Re: gzopen64 implicitly converted to pointer

2009-09-05 Thread Alexander Sack
afaiui chromium developers more or less say we were wrong with this
patch:

fta agl, http://paste.ubuntu.com/265190/
fta agl, i don't get why -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 alone doesn't work, the test
is #if defined(_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE) || _FILE_OFFSET_BITS == 64
agl fta: I think the zlib header is in error
agl fta: the *64 functions and types are only enabled by _LARGEFILE64_SOURCE
agl fta: however, we have _FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64, which switches the normal
functions to 64-bit mode
agl fta: but the zlib header is referencing off64_t even in the case that
only _FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 is defined

Is there another approach we could use?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 392410] Re: [MIR] UNR packages

2009-07-09 Thread Alexander Sack
xautomation MIR approved,

Sidenote: No processing of binary or structured data seems wrong to me as
there are image processing binaries inside this package.
Also I would love if MIR rationales would be a bit more verbose, e.g. just
required for X isn't that helpful; however, required for X to do Y and we
couldn't use Z1, Z2, etc. because of R1, R2, etc. is extremely helpful. Thanks!

need to be fixed in hardy as well? For firefox 3.5 backports?

no. the verification is done. the other problem is a slightly
different bug and should be tracked differently imo.

Damian, you sure this problem goes away when downgrading? maybe it was
just hidden because the other bug was too frequent.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 392410] Re: [MIR] UNR packages

2009-07-07 Thread Alexander Sack
Now that webfav is going to be promoted into main and its translations
released in language packs, this should
probably be taken care of in the package.

From what I understood this was being worked on. But yeah, could you
please file a bug on this so this doesn't fall off the radar, David?
