[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1461645] Re: [Ubuntu 15.10 64bit] Nouveau problems with ( google-chrome-unstable )

2015-09-06 Thread Amit Kucheria
This hits me on 14.04 as well with an updated google-chrome. So perhaps
this is a google-chrome bug?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1154431] Re: Unity doesn't start up

2013-03-18 Thread Amit Kucheria
On 13 Mar 17, Rafal Cieślak wrote:
I am affected by a bug which looks just as this one, and appeared in in
apparently the same version of unity package, yet I can't tell if it's
indeed the same - for I am using AMD graphics. If this is the same bug,
 I might provide additional information.

Can you please share your output when running `unity`? In my case it
complains - among many warnings and other info - that plugin 'opengl'
failed to load. This seems to be a significant clue.

Uninstalling the nvidia binary drivers and sticking with nouveau along with
re-enabling the unity plugin from CCSM made unity reappear. Try to check if
the unity plugin in enabled first.

However, the nouveau driver has a whole new set of regressions. So the
desktop is pretty broken on 'R' currently.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1115177] [NEW] X fails to start

2013-02-04 Thread Amit Kucheria
Public bug reported:

Fresh install of 13.04 dev on this desktop machine with an Nvidia
graphics.

Nouveau only shows the system is running in low-graphics mode dialog and
doesn't allow reconfiguring.

apparently the script runs a compiler check; I don't know why it fails, can't
reproduce it, but I assume that it tries to compile something which fails. I
 mean this testcase

Please find it attached.

If I'm wrong, Amit please reopen with a fresh Xorg.0.log and I'll follow

I haven't seen this in a while now. So I assume it got fixed somewhere

  Amit can you verify that?

Since the KMS stuff is so inter-linked, I can't be sure. But since the
only variable is the kernel (2.6.30 works, 2.6.31 doesn't), it might be
a kernel issue.

This is a weird error, and not consistent with other problems I'm
familiar with. Why is it so hung up regarding the framebuffer? Well, a
few random ideas... I note you're running with no xorg.conf, and I
wonder if you'd get the same problem with the stock xorg.conf (a
somewhat different code path in the xserver is exercised when xorg.conf
is there, vs. when it is absent). There was also a crash when

The reason I deleted by xorg.conf is that it had a 'Virtual' line in
there (for using my external display). This caused gdm and X to be a
black screen. Should this be filed as a separate bug?

This bug was resolved as a duplicate of another which is a duplicate
of https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21315

It contains a patch that is reported to fix the problem. I would be
willing to test if packages are available with the patch applied.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 317094] Re: evtouch meta bug to collect lshal info

2009-05-29 Thread Amit Kucheria
For everyone that has sent their lshal output to this bug, try the
following:

$ lsusb
Find your vendor id and product id for the touchscreen.
$ modprobe usbtouchscreen
$ sudo sh -c echo vendor id product id
/sys/bus/usb/drivers/usbtouchscreen/new_id

e.g. From my lsusb, one of the entries is:
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 0483:2016 SGS Thomson Microelectronics Fingerprint Reader

So the vendor id is 0483, device id is 2016.

So the above command would become something like:
$ sudo sh -c echo 0483 2016  /sys/bus/usb/drivers/newfingerprintdriver/new_id

Please report back if your touchscreen starts working.
