[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1904189] [NEW] rxvt-unicode flickers
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. Open urxvt 2. vim ./file The first time the file is open, it blinks for a fraction of a second. It doesn't happen again after closing the file (but not leaving urxvt) and opening again. If urxvt is closed and then opened again the flicker is seeing when opening a file with vim for the first time. This bug was reported upstream (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=747633O) with the workaround to change TERM variable to screen-256color, which introduces another problem: HOME and END button stop working as intended. This bug can be fixed by disabling xft when compiling (ie.: ./configure --disable-xft). ** Affects: xterm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xterm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1904189 Title: rxvt-unicode flickers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xterm/+bug/1904189/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1778072] [NEW] [SRU or Backport][Bionic] Touchpad is imprecise for small movements, keeps missing clicks, the cursor jumps after being stopped for a while. Upgrade to libinput 1.1
Public bug reported: [Impact] * Touchpad using libinput behaves badly. It's imprecise for small movements, the cursor jumps from one point to another, movements seem to take a while to register, etc., specially if compared to the Synaptics driver that was used in Xenial. Since users will upgrade from Xenial to Bionic, this can be regarded as a regression. * A regression that can make several touchpads behave very, very badly, is not something to be desired. Even more for a LTS release that'll be the "flagship" for new users for a whole 2 years. * The only working solution is reverting back to the Synaptics driver. * libinput 1.11 (and 1.11.1) fixes this. In this release, Peter Hutterer analysed the acceleration code from macOS and Windows and was able to replicate it in libinput. I've tested it in Fedora, upgrading from 1.10.5 to 1.11 and the difference is simply massive. No more missed clicks, no more imprecise movements. It behaves like in macOS. * On top of that, numerous bugs here in launchpad related to hysteresis and sensitivity and problems with specific models will be fixed as a consequence, too. [Test Case] * Get a laptop with a touchpad * Install Ubuntu 16.04.4, which uses the Synaptics driver, or Windows, or macOS. Make some small movements. * Now install Ubuntu 18.04, which uses libinput. Check that the touchpad is much less responsive, or sometimes even unusable due to how it behaves in small movements. Use it for an extended period of time. * This issue is specially pronounced in Elantech touchpads, in my experience. [Regression Potential] * Like any big upgrade, this can bring some problems. It seems there weren't any major ones, judging by other distros' bug trackers, as well as libinput's official bug tracker. * It should spend a lot of time in proposed or be considered for backporting only, and we should allow users to test it a lot, if possible. * libinput 1.11.1 has a bug (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libinput/libinput/issues/50) that can make some touchpads not appear in the device listing. Maybe we should wait for libinput 1.11.2, or use the code as of this commit: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libinput/libinput/commit/7c51c881dc72827ca50ae9eea3d123eef9cb4a66 [Other Info] * Users who do report problems are a minority. Even then, there are several instances of users complaining about these issues in the forums and AskUbuntu. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1668485] [NEW] Xorg intel blank screen
Public bug reported: I have an Hybrid graphics card, my lspci output for then is: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 530 (rev 06) 02:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107M [GeForce GTX 960M] (rev a2) Once installed nvidia drivre, things work fine (instead they don't with noveau). But my problem is using intel driver. This is parte of my xorg.conf for nvidia (complete file is attached). Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "layout" Screen 0 "nvidia" Inactive "intel" EndSection I have installed xserver-xorg-video-intel and just change xorg.conf Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "layout" Screen 0 "intel" Inactive "nvidia" EndSection this way, when restarting, I get frozen blank screen while booting, and can't do anything other than pressing the power button and and reboot. So, I have to start in recovery mode, only way I can work in terminal, and change xorg. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1639180] Re: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132
Well… Switching to another window manager doesn't solve the “any 3D/GLX app would crash” issue… In my case I would have preferred to use the nouveau driver from the beginning, except that for ancient cards like the 6150SE it makes the whole system freeze after only a few minutes… Finally, I was so p*ssed off about this bug and the fact that I have to tune this or that after some security update, that I looked back into this nouveau driver bug for 2 days and finally found a way to use it without patching/installing anything or totally disabling all graphic accelerations. (options nouveau config="PMPEG=0" => works for me/my card) So now that I have returned to The open and happy world and am not concerned with this bug anymore. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1639180] Re: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132
FYI, after a kernel upgrade the NVIDIA driver was unusable again. This time was because of the DKMS mechanism which, for whatever reason I didn't investigate yet (could it be because of the apt-pinning??), didn't success to build and install the nvidia_304.ko module for the new kernel. If that happens to you, the solution is to run these commands: dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-304 service lightdm restart (no need to reboot) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1639180 Title: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1639180/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1639180] Re: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132
In my case I have a GeForce 6150SE so I really need this 304.131 and can't higher version like 340.xx. For people needing to downgrade, this is one (among others) correct way to do so with Ubuntu 16.04: - first create a file named /etc/apt/preferences.d/local-nvidia-quirks with the following content: Explanation: block this specifique update because of OpenGL problem with 304.132 Package: nvidia-304 Pin: version 304.132-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 Pin-Priority: -10 Explanation: block this specifique update because of OpenGL problem with 304.132 Package: nvidia-opencl-icd-304 Pin: version 304.132-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 Pin-Priority: -10 - then reinstall the working old packages (they are still available in the repository): sudo apt install nvidia-304=304.131-0ubuntu3 nvidia-opencl- icd-304=304.131-0ubuntu3 - finally, reboot your computer (because it also affects the initrd boot image) The previous way only blocks the currently known not working version, without blocking future updates. If you want a way to stay at the known working version without further updates, here is the content you should use for your /etc/apt/preferences.d/local-nvidia-quirks: Explanation: do not use any other version than this one, ever (priority 1001 will ensure that) Package: nvidia-304 Pin: version 304.131-0ubuntu3 Pin-Priority: 1001 Explanation: do not use any other version than this one, ever (priority 1001 will ensure that) Package: nvidia-opencl-icd-304 Pin: version 304.131-0ubuntu3 Pin-Priority: 1001 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1639180 Title: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1639180/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1639180] Re: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132
Since this problem greatly affects usability (no graphic login anymore), may be it's worth (in the users' point of view) creating a “fake version” security-upgrade like "304.132-0ubuntu0.16.04.2+really304.131" to fill the gap while waiting for Nvidia to provide a fix for 304.132, IMHO. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1639180 Title: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1639180/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
@Bryce I know I could have attached log and more infos about my crashes, but I figured that after all these logs people have submitted so far, that it would be pretty much of the same... since we all experience the same problem. The issue might be on NVidia's side... but the way Ubuntu is dealing with this is highly unprofessional.. if that issue what happening on Windows, you can be sure that this issue would be resolved relatively quickly. Personally, in more than 15 years of computing, and the majority of it with Microsoft OSes, I have never seen a problem stick for so long. Fortunately for me, I just joined in, but seeing that this bug is still here after so long... I dunno... Look, NVidia isn't a 3rd or 4th player in the video card industry... So you can be sure there is a lot of people running NVidia's card... this cannot be ignored like this. At least, make the default selection to Ubuntu 2D, so that people joining in aren't experiencing problems right after they reboot on their first install. This really give a bad opinion about the product. Fortunately, I've been around and played many times with Linux in the past, going back to kernel 1.x, so I'm more forgiving and my past experiences taught me to choose ATi when building a computer to use with Linux. Unfortunately, I didn't planned on running it when I built this one a couple of years ago. I would have also thought that NVidia might have stepped up their game and finally get some work done on their linux driver... seems the open source project might get there faster. But we are straying outside the subject... just wanted to voice out my thoughts on the matter... If I had been a totally new linux user, trying Ubuntu 12.04 and having problems after first boot... it would have certainly be enough to make me put the windows dvd back in and re- install. Regarding the crashes, I decided to give a try to Ubuntu 2d, and seems like my crashes are gone. Ever since I switched to it yesterday, I haven't had a single crash. And I have had Photoshop opened since, did plenty of work without losing anything, with my browser opened and using it when I needed. I noticed there was a couple of important packages that was updated yesterday, with gnome that was automatically added in an apt-get upgrade. Haven't tried it yet, since I kinda like unity, and it's running great now... Really happy about this work-around, because I wouldnt have installed the Nouveau drivers, since it probably wouldnt run so well with Photoshop extended... Haven't tried, but I get that feeling. So this solution is very good for me, only losing a bit of eye candy, but I wasn't using the 3d part of compiz, just some extra visuals... But if I were working at Ubuntu, I would really be concerned about this issue in those 4-5 months the bug existed, you might have lost quite a few potential customers... those that will try linux for the first time and get this issue will most certainly go back to windows, or try a different distro. All in all, I must say that Linux/Ubuntu made some really nice improvements since the last time I tried it... this might just be the time when I will leave Windows for good. Don't get me wrong I would have liked to do that 10 years ago.. but it is only starting to be possible (at least for me) Best regards -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Title: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
You can count me in as well. Hope this get sorted out quickly... Can't deal with this for so long... My computer is my main tool for work. I know this is free software, and that we should be grateful for the people who makes this happens, but if you want to convince me to stick to your distro and even shell some bucks in the software center, which I'm seriously considering... interested in the cloud storage and some apps. However, if the distro keeps on crashing like this for so long, I'll just look elsewhere or as a last resort, install windows again. I've always had pretty bad experiences in the past, mainly due because I was using bleeding edge hardware, but I have slacked on upgrading, and last time I built my computer back 5 years ago, I made a pretty good one, and still going fine today... So I thought that with a 5 years computer, the hardware issue would all be resolved by now.. seems nvidia is still the same as it always been... ati was always the way to go... too bad I wasn't expecting to run linux when I picked that nvidia card... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Title: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 976887] Re: [Intel® 965GM x86/MMX/SSE2 ] black side strips in games
it's not a bug in the game. With the same resolution, some computers have a correct behavior. In some games, for example Smokin Guns for linux, and other games through wine, for example Fifa 99, it appears two black borders (on the left and right side) The images of the games are something of this kind: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/179/snapshot20100420155909.jpg/sr=1 This only happens in Ubuntu. In Windows XP and Windows Vista that never happened. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/976887 Title: [Intel® 965GM x86/MMX/SSE2 ] black side strips in games To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/976887/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
