Any idea of how I can fix/workaround it ? - I've already tried to
purge/reinstall anything I could think of.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1157120] [NEW] nvidia-settings-310 - (possible reason to being unable to use driver)

2013-03-19 Thread AndreK
Public bug reported:

open source nvidia driver works well, except for performance. (adapter=GTX 570)
Installing nvidia-common, nvidia-settings-310 and nvidia-310 drivers works well
- except for one warning:

update-alternatives: warning: forcing reinstallation of alternative
/usr/lib/nvidia-settings-310/ld.so.conf because link group
nvidia_settings_conf is broken

this happens every time.
there's no error/warning installing driver.
The result, after reboot - is that the display area is wrong size, there's a
cursor on the graphical part, and nvidia-driver is not in use, even according
to nvidia-settings.

running nvidia-xconfig does not help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1019370] [NEW] Changing Brightness (on laptop) is sluggish and makes OS stutter

2012-06-29 Thread AndreK
Public bug reported:

If I change brightness (using laptop's Fn+keys for intensity) while in
Unity, (GUI) it is sluggish, almost freezes the OS shortly, any process,
including video stutters.

If the same action is done in non graphic enviroment, like after Alt-
Ctrl+F1 , then the intensity is changed fast and with great
responsiveness.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868516] Re: Lightdm presents a black, blank screen, unable to login in graphicly

2011-11-09 Thread AndreK
the bug remained for several days. - not sure if it got fixed till release
(don't think so)
In the end - reinstalling nvidia-common fixed it.
(sudo apt-get --reinstall install nvidia-common.)

- it's gone now, I I did't see any similar problem

I think Nvidia should do something about this.
Assuming the problem is partially because the driver is not open_source, would
it help if I switched to recent ATI hardware ?
