Public bug reported: open source nvidia driver works well, except for performance. (adapter=GTX 570) Installing nvidia-common, nvidia-settings-310 and nvidia-310 drivers works well - except for one warning: update-alternatives: warning: forcing reinstallation of alternative /usr/lib/nvidia-settings-310/ld.so.conf because link group nvidia_settings_conf is broken this happens every time. there's no error/warning installing driver. Public bug reported: If I change brightness (using laptop's Fn+keys for intensity) while in Unity, (GUI) it is sluggish, almost freezes the OS shortly, any process, including video stutters. after a few days - my compiz takes 72% cpu (of 400 , quadcore) - killing it makes windows move smmoth and fast again (wobbly windows) - then it's back to 214MB and slow within a few days.. the bug remained for several days. - not sure if it got fixed till release (don't think so) In the end - reinstalling nvidia-common fixed it.
