[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1960372] Re: DPMS ignores attempts to DISABLE IT

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1960372] Re: DPMS ignores attempts to DISABLE IT
One part of this issue seems to be, MAYBE, that VLC is enabling DPMS somehow. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1960372] [NEW] DPMS ignores attempts to DISABLE IT
Public bug reported: I'm on a fresh installation of Debian, linux image 5.10, with a radeon RX580 gpu. My computer is not honoring the setting to "never" turn the monitor off, in power settings. DPMS is still killing the monitor after 10 minutes. It appears bugged. I have to manually turn DPMS with a cron job every 5 minutes to make sure it "stays off". I don't want DPMS. I want my monitor to always stay on ALWAYS FOREVER AND EVER NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. Why is DPMS fighting me??? How do I completely disable and REMOVE this bugged program "dpms" from my system, safely??? ** Affects: libxcb (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libxcb in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1960372 Title: DPMS ignores attempts to DISABLE IT To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxcb/+bug/1960372/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1942723] [NEW] Laptop wakes from sleep, no display
Public bug reported: When I close the lid on my laptop to put Kubuntu to sleep, it wakes up with a black screen - with the exception of a single blinking cursor (_) in the upper left corner. Machine is clearly on. Turning off/back on gets the machine back into a good state. I had a prior installation of Kubuntu on this box and it did not have this problem, though I do not remember if it had the nvidia drivers. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1069199] Re: 1002:682f Unity does not start after installing fglrx-updates Radeon HD 7700M Series
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1068404 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068404 I think the duplicate status is wrong. I think this is NOT a duplicate of bug #1068404 because **this** bug has the error: [ 593.127] (EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg/extra- modules/extra-modules.dpkg-tmp/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/extra-modules.dpkg- tmp/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so: undefined symbol: noXFree86DRIExtension or in other words it can't load the fglrx driver while bug #1068404 does NOT have that issue. So to be clear - this bug relates to the module fglrx driver is NOT loading which results in X crashing. The other bug looks like it loads the module fglrx but X crashes for other reasons. Seems like a completely different root cause therefore should be a different bug. I am also affected by this bug #1069199 and am running DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=13.10 DISTRIB_CODENAME=saucy DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 13.10 I downloaded and built sudo sh ./amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/saucy After doing the install and rebooting I get EXACTLY the same results and have the same error messages as the original bug reporter for this bug when I install the fglrx proprietary drivers. I was hoping to load the AMD drivers because I wanted to get sound out of the HDMI port. I'm running with the following hardware on an HP 8530w. The opensource versions run perfectly for video with both the VGA and HDMI ports, but I can't get sound out of the HDMI port too and read that the only solution is to upgrade to the proprietary fglrx drivers. $ lspci | grep -i Radeon 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747769] Re: [Natty Beta1] Frozen screen after exiting fullscreen mode of e.g. dosbox
Probably the same as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dosbox/+bug/778290 I'm having the same problem. Dosbox wasn't upgraded when I upgraded from Maverick to Natty and I never had this problem in Maverick. To get this problem, Dosbox must be started in windowed mode. That is, you must not use the -fullscreen flag and the fullscreen setting in the sdl part of dosbox.conf must be set to false. If Dosbox is started in windowed mode, I am able to change between windowed and fullscreen modes whenever I want. If Dosbox is started in windowed mode, the resolution is set to the one used by Dosbox, but instead of seeing Dosbox, I see the upper left part of what I used to see. Pressing Alt-Enter to go back to windowed mode does change the resultion, but the image is frozen. When I move the mouse, the mouse cursor moves, but nothing else happens regardless of what I do. Ctrl-Alt-Enter does not restart X. Ctrl-Alt-F1 works, so I can reboot from TTY. Killing Dosbox from the TTY doesn't fix X; I still have to reboot to fix the problems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/747769 Title: [Natty Beta1] Frozen screen after exiting fullscreen mode of e.g. dosbox ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 173350] Re: Caps lock LED changes state even when caps lock is mapped to ctrl
This is still an issue for me. I'm running 8.04 (up to date) on a HP DV 1700 series laptop. When I use the GUI to swap the ctrl and caps keys, the key marked caps lock is still the only one that is triggering the LED. Actually, I ran the command xmodmap -e clear lock -e add lock = Caps_Lock as suggested above, and that has fixed it for now (yet to restart). On another computer running 9.10 (no way am I putting that on my laptop, I'm sticking with what I *know* works), the problem does not occur. (And, previously, running, I think it was 7.10 on my laptop, it didn't occur either.) If the xmodmap command sticks after restarting, I'll edit this. Otherwise I'll try other suggestions in the thread and comment on them too. -- Caps lock LED changes state even when caps lock is mapped to ctrl https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173350 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 173350] Re: Caps lock LED changes state even when caps lock is mapped to ctrl
It doesn't stick. But, rather than mess around with config files, I've got another work around. Put the command: xmodmap -e clear lock -e add lock = Caps_Lock into the sessions thingy (System- Preferences - Sessions - Add, the name is whatever, the command is the one above etc.). Also after switching through the GUI, but before running the xmodmap command, ctrl-alt-backspace has to use the 'real' ctrl key. ctrl-alt- arrow (to switch desktops) has to use the 'new' (formally caps) ctrl key. After running the xmodmap command, the 'new' ctrl key works for everything.
