[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990607] [NEW] Screen corruption when logging in
Public bug reported: After logging in, the screen became a mess (see attached image). This clearly happens at random, because I restarted lightdm and logged back in normally. I am sure this problem is caused by nouveau (I don't know exactly which package). I got this with oneiric too. The proprietary NVIDIA driver works just fine (except that it has it's own share of problems -- for example, being very slow on my computer). The problem happened after uninstalling the NVIDIA proprietary driver. Ubuntu: precise In one of the logfiles there seems to be a problem with Nouveau (but I don't know which). Bug reported with ubuntu-bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 925426] [NEW] crash: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null)
Public bug reported: When using the program Hugin to stitch photos together, X/nouveau/linux crashed. It crashed when it was loading the preview of the photos (which uses 3D?). I used Unity. I got a backtrace (like on a tty), but the mouse still moved. Keyboard didn't work anymore but I could SSH into the computer. I made a bug report with ubuntu-bug (attached) and made two photos of both sides of the screen with the crash report. I've had such a crash before, that was probably the same bug. I think that was while revealing the Unity launcher. $ dpkg --list | egrep "nouveau|nvidia" ii libdrm-nouveau1a2.4.26-1ubuntu1 Userspace interface to nouveau-specific kernel DRM services -- runtime ii libdrm-nouveau1a:i386 2.4.26-1ubuntu1 Userspace interface to nouveau-specific kernel DRM services -- runtime ii nvidia-common 1:0.2.35 Find obsolete NVIDIA drivers ii xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20110411+8378443-1 X.Org X server -- Nouveau display driver (experimental) $ lspci | grep VGA 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation C77 [GeForce 8200] (rev a2) Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric I have installed xserver-xorg-{core,video-nouveau}-dbg, so if it happens again, I can post a better backtrace. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/925426 Title: crash: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/925426/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 923285] Re: X freeze with nouveu when doing intensive tasks
Note: I first used Nvidia but found it buggy (redraw glitches, font in tty too big etc.). Then I switched to nouveau and that caused freezes. Then back to Nvidia and again to nouveau (by removing the nvidia- current-updates package). The propriteary drives don't crash for me. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 923285] [NEW] X freeze with nouveu when doing intensive tasks
Public bug reported: When doing certain tasks, X freezes when nouveau is in use. (nvidia is not used, I know that because switching to a tty is fast and the tty has the right font size). This happens maybe one or two times a day when doing certain tasks. This time I changed the display settings in xfce4-display settings: rotation from 'normal' to 'left' (just to try what would happen). Also starting Opera sometimes causes the system to freeze (Opera uses hardware acceleration AFAIK). It also happens sometimes that revealing the launcher in Unity causes the system to freeze. Symptoms: * Mouse still works, but clicking has no effect * keyboard doesn't work, not even the Caps Lock key. Switching to another TTY thus doen't work * I can log in via SSH, although that is very slow. This way I have collected the bug information (via apport-cli -f) * It happens in both Unity and XFCE with Compiz enabled. $ dpkg --list | grep "nvidia\|nouveau\|mesa" ii libdrm-nouveau1a2.4.26-1ubuntu1 Userspace interface to nouveau-specific kernel DRM services -- runtime ii libdrm-nouveau1a:i386 2.4.26-1ubuntu1 Userspace interface to nouveau-specific kernel DRM services -- runtime ii libgl1-mesa-dri 7.11-0ubuntu3 free implementation of the OpenGL API -- DRI modules ii libgl1-mesa-glx 7.11-0ubuntu3 free implementation of the OpenGL API -- GLX runtime rc libgl1-mesa-glx:i3867.11-0ubuntu3 free implementation of the OpenGL API -- GLX runtime ii libglapi-mesa 7.11-0ubuntu3 free implementation of the GL API -- shared library rc libglapi-mesa:i386 7.11-0ubuntu3 free implementation of the GL API -- shared library ii libglu1-mesa7.11-0ubuntu3 Mesa OpenGL utility library (GLU) ii mesa-utils 8.0.1+git20110129+d8f7d6b-0ubuntu2 Miscellaneous Mesa GL utilities ii nvidia-common 1:0.2.35 Find obsolete NVIDIA drivers rc nvidia-current-updates 280.13-0ubuntu5 NVIDIA binary Xorg driver, kernel module and VDPAU library ii nvidia-settings-updates 280.13-0ubuntu1 Tool of configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver ii xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20110411+8378443-1 X.Org X server -- Nouveau display driver (experimental) $lspci | grep VGA 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation C77 [GeForce 8200] (rev a2) ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/923285 Title: X freeze with nouveu when doing intensive tasks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/923285/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 920573] [NEW] sudden crash (when launcher is revealed in Unity?)
Public bug reported: Nouveau (I think it was nouveau, I don't know, maybe it was X) suddenly crashed, but I don't know why. A black screen appeared with a stack trace (from Nouveau if I remember correctly), but I forgot to take a photo. The computer was unresponsive and I had to restart (force shutdown). apport-cli didnt report that there was a crash, and /var/crash is empty. I have changed a few things on my computer lately.
