[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1078695] Re: xrandr : Failed to get size of gamma for output default

2015-09-03 Thread BJB
Trying to solve #874694 (only getting 640x480 maximum resolution instead
of 1024x768), I see also an Amilo L6820 with Intel 82845G/GL/GE Chipset.
This blocks my attempts to force the screen resolution at xrandr level.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874694] Re: Resolution cannot be set higher than 640x480 and doesn't fit screen

2011-10-17 Thread BJB
I had similar issue on Ubuntu 11.10 on old Amilo L6820, adding
i915.modeset=0 as linux kernel param at the grub did the trick.

Please note that I did not have investigated any sideeffect of this
parameter (performance drop, etc), but at least I can run ubuntu 11.10.

Without this parameter, this issue is blocking the use of 11.10 on
affected laptop (think big icons on 640x480 !).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874694] Re: Resolution cannot be set higher than 640x480 and doesn't fit screen

2011-10-17 Thread BJB
To me there is a problem around KMS with i915. As far as I understand,
the value 0 disable the KMS and force the usage of the video driver mode
detection instead of the kernel base handling. So, I would say this is
rather a KMS (aka Kernel 3.0 ?) issue. Anybody please correct me if my
understanding is wrong.

I noticed a first problem with value 0, you can run Ubuntu but you will not be
able to perform some tasks such as :
 - Switch from user console (CTRL+ALT+number)
 - Switch from user session (user menu at top right)
- Close a user session (menu at top right)

Basically anything that makes the screen mode switch (once started) now
makes the screen goes black, and the only solution is then to reboot.

So, I do not consider my solution as a complete workaround. The issue is
still blocking until anybody find a refined way.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 523890] [NEW] XInput2 not separating Synaptics touchkey events from trackpad trackpoint

2010-02-18 Thread BJB
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xinput

Hello,

I got an HP 6910p with a Synaptics combo trackpoint and trackpad.

Thanks to the XInput2 we can split the trackpad and the trackpoint to
get two cursors. But there is a problem (exact location in the code to
be clarified: xinput or synaptics), the event sent at xinput level for
the mouse keys are send thru the same master pointer (either if it is on
the pad or on the trackpoint area).

Here is the sequence :

xinput create-master Test
xinput list

⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad id=10 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ PS/2 Generic Mouse id=11 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Macintosh mouse button emulationid=12 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Buttonid=6[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Video Bus id=7[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Sleep Buttonid=8[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboardid=9[slave keyboard (3)]
⎡ Test pointer id=13 [master pointer (14)]
⎜ ↳ Test XTEST pointerid=15 [slave pointer (13)]
⎣ Test keyboard id=14 [master keyboard (13)]
↳ Test XTEST keyboard id=16 [slave keyboard (14)]

xinput reattach 11 13

At this point you have two pointer :)

But buttons are not matching :

xinput test-xi2
when clicking on left button of the trackpoint :
EVENT type 15
device: 2
detail: 1
valuators:
when clicking on left button of the trackpad :
EVENT type 15
device: 2
detail: 1
valuators:

As a result the trackpoint cursor is unsable as you never get buttons
click event ;-)

Here is the grep on dmesg for Synaptics :
